Just say the African continent ....the phrase 'Dark Continent" is backward and far from what Africa is
@DWilliam13 жыл бұрын
@@ngeno360 I assume you are much younger than myself and probably feel all older terms are tinged with racism or derogatory meanings, but growing up in the 1970’s and 1980’s the term “Dark Continent” was used to describe wonder, mystery and the unknown. It was a magical place. Even though the term was coined in the 1800’s that was the original meaning and to those of us who use it, it still is. It has nothing to do with thinking Kenya is a “backwards” country. Far from it. It’s filled with natural beauty, rich traditions, complexity and amazing people. You should really concentrate on “correcting” words or terms with real negative connotations. BTW, if you really want to be cutting edge and impress your “woke” friends try using the term “Alkebulan” which is what Africa was originally called and translates to “mother of mankind”. Always glad to educate. Have a great day.

@@DWilliam1 Dark Continent was not an endearing term for the continent. While like you said, it may not have been coined to start off that way, it's known connotation came to be negative and not at all a positive description for beauty, wonder and amazement, but a dark unknown, backward and dangerous place (which is ironic as the continent was infact not unknown to the world before the arrival of the European given that Asia and the Middle East had been interacting with the continent for thousand of years). And obviously, as we both know, the explorers and colonists of that day did not look at Africans and it's landscape as a people or place equal to them/or as enlightened as them. And respect to you for your advanced age (and whatever wisdom that comes with it), but we, you, me, are living in a modern world and it would be great if we could leave behind terminologies that came from a place of superiority and condescending attitudes.

This video is pure Gold. I remember the first time I went to a club in Kenya (in downtown Nairobi), I was approached by a woman within 5 minutes of being there, before I had even ordered a drink. I was naive and assumed I was just so irresistible and she was totally into me. It didn't take too long afterwards before it dawned on me that she was a prostitute. I was also there with my sister and her boyfriend. As soon as she went to the bathroom, another woman immediately sat next to him and started chatting him up before he chased her away. It was really disappointing because it seemed like 90% of the single women there were working

When I was working for a week in Kampala (I’m from uk) my hotel bar had a regular disco type thing going on, and I was constantly approached by hunters. The funny thing was later when I was chilling outside with a smoke I watched how the deliberate layout of the foyer meant that any man trying to take a hunter up to his room from the bar/disco would find it impossible to get into a lift without reception seeing them , and staff would be demanding the extra fee for letting the room have a second occupant for the night. Such a scam they had going lol. So the poor schmucks had to pay for drinks, pay the hotel, then pay god knows what in their room. 😂😂😂

at 4:18 they were talking about the bottled drink the other lady was carrying. It's like she didn't want to give it to the waitress, but then the waitress tells her that she'll bring her two of those bottles. Some parts are not audible so i can't hear the whole conversation.

Tommy, you are one cool cucumber. Mind yourself and be safe. You seem to have a great knack of dis-arming the locals and your varied language skills and permanent smile probably helps. I thought it was funny that within a minute of meeting you, "Jelly" was offering you a massage ! "not now stupid, later..." and bless she was trying til the very end to get to know you better. You were a perfect gent mind in your treatment of her. Keep up the great videos, very entertaining, raw and informative.
