@josephmaina-vm1lc no one wants to leave their home and live in another man's country, but when the options are limited due to the policy, suppression, and iron fist ruling of the government, then you'll do whatever it takes to survive. My personal takeaways as a person recently been to Eritrea - Super easy to go. I got my visa from the embassy in a few days and booked the flight and went ahead. Only thing is you need to register to the tourist office when you arrive. - Everywhere is very very very safe. I was hanging in the middle of nowhere at 3-4 am and no one even turns around and looks at you. Super chill - True, there is no internet or connectivity, however life is very slow paced. You low-key enjoy it - Great food, smiling people, cheap prices for europeans, amazing sea (in Massawa), untold history I would recommend. No need for clickbaits, good place to visit.

Let me correct you on prices of Taxi! You are mistaken saying “everybody is supposed to pay 10 Nkf ”. Certain direct lines are 10 Nkf on a shared taxi. You wanted to go to Bahti Meskerem , there is no “Meskel Square” that’s an Ethiopian area in Addis Abeba, which is off the direct line, and so that is what we call a “contract” price, and it is normally 70 Nkf and it can be more depending on the distance ! You could have taken a shared taxi for 10 Nkf, and got off at Piazza Michaele and walked about 4-5 blocks to Bahti Meskerem. The taxi driver could have taken straight to Bahti Meskerem private, but since you offered him 30 Nkf he had to make up the difference by picking up passengers going on the direct line service. So, the taxi driver ended up making 30 Nkf from you, and 30Nkf from the other three, and basically earned 60Nkf short 10.

It is to easy to be a critic but Eritreans have been under continued colonialism, annexation, wars, Cold War & post Cold War geopolitics, unwarranted Sanctions for 20 odd years. Yet Eritreans inside & outside the country have stuck with their leadership and defeated all their enemies be it in the battlefield or diplomatically. Cuba, you said it right, and like Cuba, Eritrea has been under US and EU sanctions for DECADES, and still survived. Technology, modern banking and much more are restricted by those sanctions. But, it was really easy to blame it only on “dictatorship “ or “authoritarian rule”.

I am not a fancy person, the only things i require are safety, clean water, electricity and internet. It is simply painful to see my beloved Eritrea like this : So sad to see, the people don’t deserve this, You can't blame everything on outside factors. 34 years of independence, nothing to show for it. Just reminiscent of the past glory. The epitome of LIVING IN THE PAST. the elderly dictator is taking the country down with him. He is good for nothing and keeps blaming TPLF and US for his failure. worst thing is the national service last forever. how hell is Eritrea to Eritreans. we are hard working people, but we are not fortunate enough to work in our homeland. We are scattered everywhere in the world leaving our families behind. Sad, very sad to see my country failed. People who support the dictator are Eritrea's main problem. We need educated people to lead not a militia. Governance matters. For those who are saying Sanction did suffer this country, you are wrong. The truth is, the brutal dictator running the land for the past 30 years locked the country purposely. he Can only survive in such situation. Ones Eritrea opens its border, ports, economy and Internet to the outside world, End of the story. The authoritarian regime will collapse in no time.

Eritrea was federated forcefully due to the policy of the USA towards Eritrea as stated by John Foster Dulles "“From the point of view of justice, the opinions of the Eritrean people must receive consideration" . It is incorrect to state that it was a breakaway when it in fact was never same country, yet closely related and shared common historical background. It is a common mistake of public viewers that didn't get the time to delve into history and examine facts and misconceptions.
