And now for something a bit different. Argentina was the first country I ever lived abroad in, way back in 2008-9. I liked it so much that I went back again in 2014. Before closing out 2021, I had go back and visit some old friends, and I found some time to do some filming along the way. This won't exactly be the most African country we visit (other than the tango), but we'll make it work. Vamos. Oh, and if you're in Argentina and need some hot sauce, check out @lagrimadeldiablo on Instagram.

My wife and I went Argentina in 1999, we were in the Rio Del la Plata area near Buenos Aires. The people were amazing and so kind and the city itself was as amazing and beautiful as the people. We were really surprised by some of the local customs, such as eating dinner after 9 at night and the night life came alive then, so busy. We ventured into the business area, the hundreds of storefronts, excellent restaurants, jewelry stores, leather good shops and clothing stores. It’s really an amazing country that has been thru so much and yet the people have held on to their laughter and love of family and culture. Hope to go back some day. We ventured out into the countryside and found that same enthusiasm for life and love of people, so blessed to have been there. God bless Argentina!!!

When I lived in Argentina from 2002-2004, the older generations would ask me how I liked the country. And after I’d tell them I liked it a lot, they would all inevitably tell me, “you should have seen it 30, 40 years ago. It was an amazing place. Sadly, no more.” This was a very typical conversation. And, I have to admit, all the buildings and parks and things look like run down versions of something that was once amazing and plentiful. But regardless, I love Argentina, and even married into an Argentine family here in the US.

I feel like a good amount of people who end up going the whole 9-5 route are sort of forced into doing because they have a family/kids to support. You can't leave as much room for uncertainty in your life when you have kids since they are basically depending on you for everything. Then there are people who do it because it's a bit easier (you're basically following down a path that's mostly been mapped out already since a lot of people have been going down it for a long time), you don't have to be too creative or think outside the box with it, all you have to do is be another cog in that machine the machine that is society. Great video Tommy! A down to earth attitude and embracing the local culture clearly has been part of your upbringing. Makes me nostalgic to visit the old neighborhoods from my NYC college days when most hung out on Broadway and Riverside drive. I felt more at home on 125th Harlem or along Amsterdam in Spanish Harlem where the locals would yell out "Chino" like they yell "White-guy" to you ... since you just didn't belong there, but, you did. Keep posting!

@bluhd22652 жыл бұрын
es verdad que parte de la marginalidad es por la situación del país pero es mundial también

I am truly enjoying your content. I had inlaws/ outlaws who were teachers at the Word of Life Mission in Argentina a few years ago. They spoke if BA as if it was so horrible... Obviously their view was fairly skewed! However they are um rather like mice, always afraid in many ways. They are from Florida here in Jacksonville and unlike yourself and even me, don't understand certain aspects of life. To be able to fit in no matter where one lives is a gift that not all have or learn! I'm a country bumpkin from the PNW but have moved around the states some and prosper no matter where u live. Not speaking in monetary terms, but in that place inside which ones heart for life resides. Stay well and vaya con dios

One of 2 vloggers that I enjoy watching regularly. Thanks, Tommy, for being an inspiration. You can tell good wine from not so good wine by drinking it. Lot's of good stuff for under $10 in America, so I can imagine some great prices in Argentina. The Malbec is world famous.

Tomás: I've enjoyed this and other videos of yours. I entirely empathize with your desire to live a meaningful life away from the grind of a 9-5 routine. I'm an Argentinian who fled the country and lived and worked around the world including the USA, Canada and China. This world is beautiful and its people worth meeting. Like yourself always tried to walk away of the beaten path. It's something I'll never regret doing. Cheers.

Ey Thomas! I’m Argentinian and I’ve been following you in your KZbin trips since June. I got to tell you that I was shocked to see you here!!!! And most of all hearing you talking like a real Argentinian was crazy! To know that you lived here blew my mind… anything I can help you with just ask. I’m an MD. PS: I was really afraid that someone could just rob you because NOBODY walks freely showing the cell phone or cameras, Los chorros están siempre a la pesca! Look out!

Tommy you come thru stunning us again with your language command. Spoke in Spanish, French, and Chinese with ease. So far you've lived in several lands and visited many. And in all of them make friends. You are in my estimation head and shoulder above most youtubers who generally speak in their native tongue with few exceptions. I am also getting the gems of history lessons you drop. You did that in my native land touching on things I knew not of, crazy. So aww Tommy, did you ever finish the master degree, and what was your major?

👍👍👍 Thanks for a very interesting vlog. Keep up the great work. I remembered Argentina used to be a prosperous country with large pastures for cattle farming and agriculture. I did not know the how the country degenerate into such a situation with such high inflation; which would have destroyed valuation of assets held by the poor citizens. Argentina is a beautiful country with beautiful people. Blessings from Kuching, Malaysia

I discovered Tommy's Sabbatical videos a few months ago and have enjoyed all of them. This one of his old neighborhood in Buenos Aires is my new favorite of his videos. I have always wanted to go to Argentina. I am a retired teacher in California, so I have the time and money. The section where he visits his old apartment house touched my heartstrings, as I could relate to the longing, a bit of regret, unrequited love. The lovely Bohemian life style of the young men happily living there now, from Venezuela, reminded me of the more carefree Bohemian days of life in the beach towns of California and San Francisco forty years ago in a more enlightened time, with less emphasis on money and status, more real.
