it's quite simple. ANC was too big to self-correct. this was shown in the factional battles. think of it as a cabinet reshuffle and the looters and deadwood would be first to go. mkp also did well to attract those who have cases pending. however, the optics are bad as the average person will see this a the DA driving the change within the ANC and the party being incapable of holding its members accountable. ANC members cant proceed without consequences as the warden (DA) is within. the ANC can benefit from this as the DA and others will push them to deliver services. ANC will emphasize change in townships under DA control and DA will emphasize ethical and capable leadership. if mkp didnt split the vote we would have an ANC-EFF coalition with PA and IFP. i think the country will be fine though. to be honest, we're at a point where it doesn't matter who governs but they should do so in a manner which upholds the constitution and the tenets of the Bill of Rights as framed in the Freedom Charter. if this is 94 again, we have an opportunity to grow to the heights under Mbeki where debt was low and economic growth was 6% per year ( similar to China today). we just need to make sure that nobody is left behind. zuma has been quite a distraction and destabilizing force in SA. things went downhill since then. the only metric that went up was crime. P.S, dont hate the person and sometimes feel like his Arms Deal scandal could've been handled differently but the country really suffered. the story and performance of bafana bafana mirrors our government's performance over same period. from winning AFCON and qualifying for consecutive world cup competitions. under zuma, we qualfied for wc as hosts but haven't participated since and we didnt make AFCON due to Miscaluting the required points. that summed up zuma's legacy. now, things are improving and lets hope we surpass our best...
