Me and my sister watched this once. We genuinely thought we were ready. I'd watched tons of reviews of bad movies, so I thought "whatever this movie throws at us, we'll just make a joke and laugh it off." No, within minutes we were totally drained. We couldn't express ANY emotion, and the only joke we could make was "Why are we still watching this?" In conclusion, I blame you Saber, for watering it down. Guys, Carmilla is a Victorian gothic novel (I study Victorian gothic literature) that predates Stoker’s Dracula. It’s in the public domain, so you can read it whenever you want for free. Do a quick google search and you’ll find it. I’m pretty sure it’s been adapted into (numerous) movies as well, so it’s possible to watch too. And yes, it is about a lesbian vampire.

I love how The Asylum is getting gradually more and more blatant about their ripoffs. I mean, they're all shameless, but you go from a movie that only shares a name and creature (Trollz/Trolland) to a movie with a very similar concept (Izzie's Way Home) to straight up having the title, character names and silhouettes be almost identical (they're like DeviantArt recolours, it's amazing). It's like they're seeing how far they can go before getting sued. Nervously awaiting their inevitable knockoff of Soul, where everything is exactly the same except it's called "Spirit" and the main character is an Asian guy called Jack Gardener who loves to play the bassoon.

Despite being a blatant rip-off Homeward could have actually been just as good as Onward if anyone had bothered to give a shit about story writing. Like they really could’ve played up the relationship between the two brothers by adding a real sense of tension; which is actually easier with them being half-brothers. They could’ve made Barrow the popular guy in school (maybe a great quarterback in football or whatever) who is a chill dude liked by everyone EXCEPT his own stepbrother, Lloyd, who is spiteful that he outshines him with the ‘Lightspinner’ name that should only belong to him (the true elf blood). Barrow is always trying to connect with Lloyd but there is a constant distance. Show that Lloyd’s dad died during his childhood, and when his mother re-married an Orc, despite him wanting to connect, Lloyd never accepted him as a father and so to an extent doesn’t accept Barrow either. They feel like intruders on his life and couple this with the racial tension already present between elf and Orc. All of this would be an authentic set up for him to take the opportunity to ditch Barrow in New-Orc city, then you could also play up a subplot involving Barrow’s emotional devastation of being betrayed by Lloyd and thus giving up on the idea of them ever being a family - pushing him to join the biker gang where he actually feels accepted. But naw fuck it.

Not gonna lie, I definitely thought there was some chemistry between those two. The heroes, I mean. Maybe it would've been a bit clichè-y, but I would've liked a plot about elves and orcs finding out those two were lovers, much to everyone's shock. Maybe after the movie estabilished that elves and orcs both described the two heroes in different ways, the orcs describing the orc heroine as the one who save the day helped by her elven sidekick while the elves did the opposite.
