Klára Andoková I think that was mainly because it was the first computer animated movie from the Czech Republic, and it also underwent a pretty heavy marketing campaign. Although the studio lost $500,000 on it, so it must not have been that successful.

It's kinda mindblowing, as a czech person, seeing a foreigner analyze this movie, because I never even noticed the numerous puns and cultural references, until I heardthe translated version. Par example, the word "kozy" aka "goats" are also a slang for boobs, so boobs are literally in the title. The three guys are the main characters of a popular fairytale "Velký, Široký a Bystrozraký" and the movie kind of pokes fun at them, the "northern popsticle" is a reference to the popsticle Polárka, which is also the word we use for the northern star Polaris. And there's so much more hidden in there that gets lost in translation. I'm not saying this as a defence of the movie, it's not good by any means and I remember having nightmares bc of it as a kid, it's just a wild realisation that some of the things like czech fairytales which are normal to me could be overlooked by a foreigner because they didn't grow up in the same enviroment. Great video, laughed a lot!

i was wondering if it was based on the german fairytale 'Die sechs Diener', the Six Servants, but i guess there's a similar czech fairytale :> maybe the czech one is based on the german one? can't find much on that lol- but at least based on that i figured there would probably be more cultural references, so it's nice to have that context :>

Okay, so I'll try to explain some things, since this movie doesn't make much sense for foreigners. The three weird ass men, "Dlouhý, široký a bystrozraký" come from a fairy tale where they help a guy save a princess by basically finding her by all those tactics they used in this movie. So here they're supposed to be older and kinda famous for their powers, that's why they have a contract for people wanting help from them. The North star is called "Polárka" in czech and that's a really popular ice cream here, hence the fuckin' popsicle in the sky. And that Lucifer's cheese obsession...basically in Czech folklore demons are dumb and ridiculous as fuck. You can make anything up and no one bats an eye. Those two devils are there for comedic relief. No other reason. Lucifer follows these laws etc., cause the hell works like some instituiton essentialy. Contracts solve everthing, you can bring someone back from hell, have your dreams come true with them and it's even a saying in our language "upsat se čertu", which means getting into some shit.

I just wanted to mention that the three guys (Tall, Broad and Sharp-eyed) are a popular kids tale in Czech Republic. The most popular version is that they help save a princess with a poor guy. It’s really weird in my opinion as a Czech girl but it also was one of my favorite tales when I was a kid. So it’s not a joke that they are named after what they look (or maybe it is who knows it’s way too old to know) it’s just a kids tale
@allace873510 ай бұрын
I think it’s also a grimms fairy tale i forget what it was called and I’m pretty sure there were more guys than those three I also think the characters were a bit different. Tall may have been the same, broad would become bigger when he drank water being able to drink entire lakes, Sharp eye was “sharp eyed” in a literal sense whatever he looked at would split in two so he wore a blindfold, and I think there was also a guy who was colder the hotter it was and hotter the colder it was (I think he could also freeze and burn things) thats all I remember though.

A Prague resident here: Most of the uncomfortable moments come from the movie being really out of context. I don't think this was ever supposed to leave the Czech language space. Just a quick summary: - Tall, Broad and Sharp-eyed are legendary Slavic fairy tale characters. One can stretch, one can drink entire oceans and one cannot see on close, but can actually see what's miles away. They're magic, that's their thing, kinda. - The North Star is the literal translation of 'Polarka', the most popular ice cream brand in Czech Republic and Slovakia since like the 1960s. That's the joke. It's just a pun. - From the first movie, Dr. Faust, in whose house Matthew was squatting, is a legendary German physician said to reside in Prague who allegedly sold his soul to the devil in exchange for knowledge. He is also one of the main characters of the Russian novel 'Master and Margaret', which I wholly recommend for everyone to read - All those fat and booby and disgusting characters from the first movie are mostly a nod towards the Dark Ages being really dumb and full of very specific social problems in Prague, which contributed to major European wars, such as the religious wars in Germany and the Thirty Years War in the entire world. - The comment from the animation studios - I'm quite confident at this point it's only the director himself who wrote that.
@ArinJager13 жыл бұрын

To "put someone in your mouth" is a phrase in czech which basically means to insult someone 😅

Frankly it doesn’t make any sense because American kids movies are less violent and less overtly sexual than this movie so who exactly was the scapegoat here. Did they just crack the code that adult movies have less “pg” content lol.
@FrenkTheJoy Жыл бұрын
I liked that in the first movie review you were like "I dunno I guess things are just different in the Czech Republic" and the filmmaker was SO passive aggressive about Americans being ridiculous and sensitive and having a false morality. YOU were pretty generous with acknowledging that maybe things are just okay in another country, but the filmmaker didn't give America (and of course you're Canadian anyway) the same leniency.

it actually creeps me out how they commented on the video before it was posted. maybe if KZbin can detect your content in someone else's video, it notifies you without it being public?
@chickenalpaca03323 жыл бұрын
I think more companies and people would immediately comment on videos with their content though. Maybe they have a program or something that looks for videos with their content?
@oneaeeeeopenwhenimsleeping46643 жыл бұрын
u know it can detect someone else's content if u have it in ur video and it gives u sm stat abt the thing that has a risk of being copyrighted..however I'm not sure if it will send a notif to the copyright owner..my mom made a video and when she was uploading there was some music she used and it was written below before uploading that the music or song had a risk of copyright...she uploaded it anyway and nothing happened so idk..but yeah it does recognise other people's content...
