Probably because Joshua came from an earnest place. There might be some scenes where the creator added himself because he might feel jaded but everything else feels like an algorithm. This is my greatest fear as a 3d animator. If what I think in my mind is going to turn out vs. how it turns out. I will admit my alien soup parody project turned out pretty bad like this. But recently I did a compilation contest which I got better. And I'm hoping my next project which is about the loss I experienced with my pet does not come off across as corny or anything like that. I believe these animators did the best they could and wanted to release the project and have had a deadline to do so. And what may have started off as a project of passion probably turned into burnout and just wanting to get it over with. That has admittedly happened to me on a couple of projects before. This may have turned out better if it wasn't a full movie but rather a short and had less crunch on it.

It feels like he had this animated AS he was writing the story. Like, every new scene would be animated separately. That's why there's so much conflicting info and random scene changes.

This has the quality of a bargain bin straight to dvd movie from the 2000s, but somehow even worse. Which isnt much of a surprise considering calobi’s channel is basically a content farm, and hes done a bunch of tracing stuff in the past iirc. Even if this was a passion project, it still sucks.

If they made Harry Potter I imagine it would be something like this: "alright guys so guess what, my name is Harry Potter and I can do magic and I go to hogwarts, fucking awesome right?" *one minute later* "This boys name is Harry potter, and he is a wizard. His story takes place in Hogwarts school of wizardry. he can cast spells. its insane." *two and a half minutes later* "this story is about a boy named Harry Potter, and he is a wizard. our story begins at hogwarts school of witchcraft, when he was a little boy" *three minutes of a story later* "Welcome to the story of Harry Potter, who goes to Hogwarts. He is a wizard, can you believe that?"

I do not know what Calobi is going for. I mean, I'm all for the trope where the main character(s) desire to pursue their dream (art, science, culinary art, sports, etc.), while the family, friends, etc. doubts them, and telling the protagonist(s) their "wasting time" with their desire. However, throughout the "movie" was poorly executed. Like, who's your target audience? What message you trying to send? Also, Calobi comparing his "animated movie" the next Disney and Dreamworks, and saying, "Digital Circus is not good as his," seriously, WTF? Is his ego that fragile due to Digital Circus went viral and his "movie" did not? Being a smart-assy is not going to land Calobi in an art job if he keeps being grossly narcissistic.

And the thing is, too, animation is a field that *heavily* relies on you having connections and a good working relationship with others in the industry. Putting another project down is a very quick way to make enemies in an industry where you can’t afford to make a lot of them.
@starleaf-luna7 ай бұрын
tbf as far as I'm concerned it _did_ go viral, just not for the reasons he was hoping XD

@@bean6803 This is the exact reason why people like Mr Enter struggled to get into the industry. If you keep allowing yourself to be bitter and publicly insulting other people and their portfolios, nobody’s gonna want to work with you or pick up your concepts.

XRA isn’t just random nonsense, their jokes are actually thought out wordplay and there’s a method to the madness. This is just lazy and poorly written rather than intentionally confusing.

@@gregjayonnaise8314 Yeah, I spent an afternoon binging the whole series. At least that was entertaining and there was a twisted sense of reasoning to most of it.

Makes sense even though XRA is akin to taking actual drugs the episodes usually have a few themes and characters they go through. XRA’s uncanny vibe also is intentional.

this feels like if my little pony met an entitled fifteen year old entitled twitter artist mixed with a dash of self inserts and the writing/formating of a harry potter drarry watpad fanfic made by a 12 year old girl in her purple bed with harry potter funko pops on her desk on her laptop ofc
@The_Big_Bad_Rice_Wolf6 ай бұрын
A lot of MLP fanfictions are pretty good actually. I remember reading one where a self insert was part of the main cast and she ended up getting brutally injured at the start, and later died. She was never overpowered. I see exactly what you mean though. Feels very beginner writer-y

It's ironic that you mentioned The Little Mermaid sounding music around 1:36:12 because the 'Orca' is clearly based on the The Little Mermaid tv-series's character Spot (Ariel's Orca calf friend). It's probably why the orca has a mis-colored tail too, just for plausible deniability (Intentionally drawing things slightly wrong is one way tracers and idea-referencers attempt to play off copying, and from what I've heard about the creator, they literally trace a lot or sommatsuch. Oops! Also, every locker in the school is labeled "芸" which means art. I don't know why they'd be on all the lockers but it is!
@PrismitBun8 ай бұрын
this feels like the creator heard the writing advice, "you don't need to write your story chronologically, you can skip to writing the parts you're excited to write and do those first." but then completely missed the key word "first" and just had the entire final product be ONLY the parts they felt like writing, in the order they felt like writing them, and just went all in on the first draft. like i can tell this movie is sincere and it does have some really good points in it, it was just executed in a REALLY weird way lol.

I know this type of thing and he is trying to prove something but in a "creative and honest way" is something else from a perspective of where he's coming from whatever it is. I don't hate it, but it does give sonicchu energy.
