This is the first of a new series I'm calling "The Anachro-Lab", an animated series depicting fights between species who normally were separated by millions of years. This pilot episode took two years to produce! The next episode is already underway and will hopefully take a bit less time to create.

As someone who played with both character models I can say that smilodon plays smoother but utahraptor had a much higher skill ceiling
@henriklund4288
@henriklund4288 6 ай бұрын
I dont know about that, i see alot of new players playing the Utahraptor. the Smiledon does have the advantage for the for the higher bite damage and i feel takes more macro to use compared to the utahrapter, as your claw attacks arent that good for slash attacks.

it's weird - i see both y'all's points. A *ton* of utahraptor noobies just played dead until you got on top of them, then they just spammed kick hoping to land crit - it's here I can see henrik's point. But awe-inspiring utahraptor gameplay comes from those players who just had an innate connection with their characters, and it's because of that their fighting styles are so much more dynamic and aggressive, ultimately giving utahraptor the edge over pure skill possibilities.

Can we talk about the caution, threat displays, and feints the predators use on each other? Whatever anyone else has to say about the abandonment of the "Outside" ARG format, the low-res modeling, or whatever, I insist that the behavior and tactics in the encounter, and the evaluation in the voiceover, are deeply convincing and well-executed! The character of the animals' movements, the pulsating of the herbivore's olfactory tunnel thing, the pacing of the video, and the reasoned post-fight analysis are all spot-on and beautiful things to see... Congratulations, and best of wishes for the new series!

I adore the stylistic callback to THE MOST EXTREME. If you're taking suggestions, consider Quetzalcoatlus vs something tanky at the cusp of its theoretical carry limit, like arthropleura. It would be interesting to speculate if a giraffe-sized Pteranodon could break something's armor with its sheer size, or possibly have the intelligence to pick it up high and drop it.

I was genuinely surprised by how much I enjoyed this. I look forward to seeing which of these prehistoric animals you pit against one another next. Additionally, just so you are aware for your next fight, Dakotaraptor was not contemporary with Utahraptor, but with Tyrannosaurus rex. Beyond this, there is evidence Smilodon could bite into bone; a Glyptotherium skull with puncture marks matching Smilodon canines shows the cat could kill armored prey if it was careful, but likewise, they also have been confirmed to have done this to their own kind in fights as skulls and other bones show.

Month late but regarding the sickle claw it wasn't used for slashing, this was actually debunked several times but it was more used like Raptor Prey Restraint (RPR), for those who don't know it's just basically to help pin and hold down prey while delivering the final blow. Utah in particular would struggle using this as a slash on large herbivores because even though it could hook into the prey doesn't mean they can hold on for long, these guys weighed as much as grizzly's and holding onto a giant moving target with just your toes and fingers WHILE slashing would be very difficult to near impossible. Don't think this really changes the outcome of the fight because even just getting punctured by these is fatal but just wanted to clear up

I will say, Having made both high and low poly models, It actually isn't really easier to manage because there is a _lot_ that goes into making low poly topology which deforms the way you want it to. You have to really localize things and have specific topology which deforms well. In high poly modeling, Topology is extremely important, But you also don't really need to individually worry about the effect of each individual polygon on your deformations. I would liken it to drawing vs pixel art. Neither one is really easier or harder than the other. They're just different skillsets which overlap in the fundamentals.

3:58 I think this particular Smilodon player made the critical mistake at this exact point. By not ensuring that the hind limbs of the Utah Raptor were fully subdued, the Smilodon left itself open to counterattack, which when done with that sickle claw spelled doom for the poor Smilodon. Still, an excellent breakdown of the pros and cons of either of the players, and I loved this.
@tonygoodwinjr9293
@tonygoodwinjr9293 6 ай бұрын
The Smilodon had more to fight for: lost prey to another predator, another predator in its territory, etc. This wouldve been a short fight. Real life predators dont risk injury without reward. The Smilodon is the only predator with any real reason to fight. In all likelyhood the Utahraptor wouldve ran as soon as it saw the Smilodon.

The animation work in this is excellent. The visuals of Utah's hunting style clicked with me for the first time seeing how the team depicted it here. Dang, the fight choreography was so good! All the animations looked like they were straight out of a nature documentary, but the cinematography made the fight feel engaging. The Cat noticing the raptor, the bluffing, the opportunistic grapple using its superior height by the raptor, the raptor evasion of the cat first neck bite attack, and and the desperate counterattack by the raptor to save its life were all high points. Such good work!

I love Crocs, but this fight would pretty much need to take place in the Shark’s territory and doing so would give it a large edge I reckon. I’m giving it to the Shark 7/10 times. The Croc would really need to get lucky with its bites and strike first as its armour probably won’t do much against the Shark’s bite. Aiming for its fins is step one, but so would be avoiding the Shark 😅

yeah the croc doesn't stand much of a chance death roll is off the table since it'd have to take place completely submerged the croc's armor doesn't really do anything to stop the great white, meanwhile i imagine the great white is large enough to trade bites with the croc and come out victorious cause while the croc does have a really strong bite, it's teeth aren't really long enough

Please, not only would I love to see more of these, but please work with the same animator and modeller for future instalments. This work is so high quality. Edit: I will say, that due to possessing the avian respiratory system, most theropods, Utahraptor included, would likely have been capable of extreme feats of endurance, due to the constant flow of oxygenated blood, and slower buildup of lactic acid. Also, not to nitpick, but Dakotaraptor and Utahraptor didn't coexist, and the animals displayed were not Dakotaraptor.
