The thing I love about Chad Smith is that he makes somewhat simple beats sound so amazing. Like the little flavor and snazz he puts into it makes it sound so much more! One of my favorite drummers hands down.
@IUAlum828 жыл бұрын
excellent hi hat work, plenty of solid left hand ghost notes on the snare, and I'm particularly found of his use of accents. this is a guy that grew up in symphonic bands, concert bands, marching bands, his grasp of both technical and creative modalities is obvious. Well done Mr. Smith.

Chad Smith is, in my opinion, the groove master. He is who I aspire to be regardless of how difficult it is to play his beats. Simplicity does not equal stupidity. Steve Jordan is also one of my favorite drummers and most of what he plays can be done after just a few months of practice. It's about musicality not difficulty.

To see Neil smile, get Anatomy of A Drum Solo. He smiles a lot in this vid and gives you every insight about his thoughts and progress in developing a solo.When I play intricate time signatures or "crazy stuff", I rarely think of smiling, ( I do afterwards ). It's kind of an afterthought .This doesn't meant that one would be depressed. If you watch a lot of other drummers when they are in the "heat" of playing, they don't smile a lot either.Their concentration is on something else.

He's made several award-winning albums with the Chili Peppers, he's idolized by many young drummers, and he's even played at the Buddy Rich memorial concert. His technique includes speed and power with his hands AND feet, and he can play several different styles of music which he has performed with countless other musicians. I left out a lot of stuff but he is most definitely one of the best.

It´s cool that his signature snare drum is affordable for hobby drummers! He explicitly told that to Pearl! That´s sympatic and his 14"x5" Snare sounds great!
@dylanbaldwin79343 жыл бұрын
I love its crack he has it tuned high but it probably either is a thick wood drum or has dampening and that's why it's not obnoxiously ringy. I love it I want to get that snare sound for my kit. I have the snare for my school drum kit tuned very similar to this decently tight top and tighter bottom head, snare wires with good response but not buzzy and a little bit of dampening to keep the drum the way I like it. Nice dry crack and distinct ghost notes. I love the way all of his drums sound too he plays like small fusion jazz tom sizes 12 rack 14 16 floors and a big thudy kick 24. Man I love everything about this guy. When I get a kit I want 24x14 kick 13x9 rack and 16x14 and 18x16 floor Tom's. With a piccolo snare tuned high but dry sound. I'd creme

There's no such thing as better when you start talking about people like Neil and Chad. They're both incredible drummers in their styles, and Neil would be the first to tell you he couldn't groove like Chad, and Chad would admit that he can't command the drums and turn a solo into a song like Neil can. It's just two different people at a higher level of musicianship than we'll ever be. They're both at a higher level than Travis, though. But then again, anyone who's a had a lesson is, imo.

the most drummers forget to play a musical solo with dynamics. they often just show their skills and how fast they can play. That mostly doesn't groove or it will be after time boring. For Example the Simon Phillips Free Form Solo. He plays it slow and with feel. Also watch Benny Greb videos. But Chad Smith is awesome, too.

@8:00 is reminiscent of Ron Bushy's solo in Iron Butterfly's "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida." Chad Smith always reminds me of the late John Bonham (of Led Zeppelin obviously...and also one of my drumming heroes) with his impeccable sense of rhythm and "funky" groove style.

He's not rushing. He's playing on top, which gives the appearance of rushing, and adds a frenetic element to the "song" he's no doubt humming to in his head. Listen to the first 5 seconds, then go immediately to1.5 minutes in... the tempo is very, very close. Regardless, it's possible to speed up the tempo while still grooving. The key is just that it be done gradually, and not as a "hiccup" in the music. Tony Williams sped up over the course of a song often, but there was no lack of groove.

Try vater sticks I've tried both. Vater leaves a bit of moisture in their wood so it's more dense and durable. Vice forth is good but they are light, and get very splintered and beat up from rim shots when a vater stick just dents for a long time until it finally starts actually breaking.
