No one was ever questioning Skinner’s ability to produce points….. it was the inability to contribute defensively and play soundly anywhere else besides in the offensive zone. I can't believe you doubled down on the "I follow the league, play fantasy hockey and the NHL video game" line. You admittedly don't know anything about Beck Malenstyn, whom Seth Appert can't stop smiling about adding to the roster. In reality GMKA acquired Malenstyn for 43OA which was a throw in pick on the 11OA-14OA trade. Then he went out and acquired his line mate Aube-Kubel on Day One of Free Agency. They played together on a line centered by Dowd; a line lauded by CAPS fans as SHUTDOWN. Between the Draft and Free Agency we've added nearly 400 hits to the roster. That factor alone can change the outcome of a number of closely contested games. The problem here is an opinionated and emotional fanbase without the ability to reason. Once you factor out that variable the work shows for itself. In reality this move is more along the lines of Hyde and Poyer coming to QB the Bills defense for Sean McDermott. If Beane pulled off this kind of Draft Day trade and Free Agency moves the masses would be praising "BIG BALLER BEANE". Instead the ne'er-do-well mouth breathers collectively sigh as their delusions didn't become reality. Jeff Skinner wasn't willing to commit to playing a 200ft game. He was a defensive liability in the offensive zone. Listen to Helenius speak about his coach Olli Jokinen and how he made him commit to the 200ft game and playing defensive minded hockey. That defensive commitment allowed for Helenius more latitude in the offensive zone, something Skinner could never comprehend. Listen to Lindy Ruff speak to Matt Bove and describe the identity he wants this team to personify on the ice, a team committed to defense. That's why they bought out Jeff Skinner, he simply doesn't fit the identity of what this team needs going forward. Pay attention to Lindy Ruff's tounge in cheek laughter during his sitdown with Matt Bove... I'm not the only one who is laughing at the local fan and media reaction. Saying the Sabres will have 38 million in cap space next year and therefore have enough money to sign more guys to big contracts this year is so misleading. It's just not true, and frankly it came about from lazy work. Joe went to capfriendly and looked at the line that says projected cap space for 2025 and saw 38 million and didn't bother understanding any of the context of that. That 38 million free is the total free cap space because it's only counting the 9 guys under contract for 2025. 9 out of a roster of 23!!! It doesn't include whatever UPL, Jokiharu, Krebs, and Malenstyn will get this year. Estimate that to be between 11-13 mil for all 4. Now that changes to 25-27 million cap space free for next year with 13 players under contract. Let's go through an exercise. Instead of the wild 10 mil contract numbers Joe threw out facetiously to make a point, let's say Quinn, Peterka, Byram all get 5 million each That's another 15 million off the cap. Now we're down to 10-12 million in free cap space with 16 players under contract. Uh oh, what about Levi?? He needs a contract too, let's say he gets 4 mil to resign. Now we're down to 6-8 million in free space with 17 players under contract. But you need to have a roster of 23, and right now you're looking at having only 6-8 million left for 6 player spots. UFA Greenway is a goner at this point. It's basically down to rookies on ELCs or Vet minimum. There is no money to sign anyone else that will carry over into next year unless they start trading players away to move salary.

We were 23rd in scoring last season...lost Mitts and Skinner and add Byrum and new 4th line...how does that equal more offense
@anordman96593 ай бұрын
The Sabres are a constant headache. They never seem to have ideas on how to set up the team in time. For many years the management neglected the goalie position. Now they can't fix the top 6. Playoff drought will continue...

They got rid of Mittelstadt and Skinner because they didn't want to pay them and filed the whole with cheap player no making up for their point production. How much longer before we have another round of players asking for a trade. He moves this year feels like a rebuild.
@tkbuffalo37583 ай бұрын
Disgusting day, same as last year, all the 'talk' about doing things, and its the same...nothing good. you removed scoring, and you failed to replace it, and made it worse... but good job re-signing bryson, because you really need five hundred d men. Can we bring relegation in the NHL, seriously. Sabres are the new Nordiques/Whalers...just a doormat, not with a will to win the Stanley Cup, the only will is, doing just enough to maybe get the last playoff spot to get swept, and then do nothing with it. This current roster...is a failure. This is now on the GM for not pulling the trigger on deals that were out there, that HE ADMITTED he thought were made, but somehow fell through. Because he's trigger shy...

Greenway is a 4th line guy at best. If this is what Adam's plan is, I'm not even gonna waste my time watching the Sabres next season. This is pathetic. Might as well move the team now.

You’re right. Greenway is a 4th liner on a good team. If we’re being sold on the idea that Krebs and Greenway are 3rd liners and Zucker is our top 6 addition, we’re in trouble.

I don't think they're done yet. And I think they did addition by subtraction. Rolling the dice on new guys and getting rid of alot of the ancient guard that has lead us no where. The youngins will lead us to the playoffs and we'll still have a good trade coming. Stay tuned.

For a guy who threw three long-term deals at Dahlin, Thompson and Cozens iust a short time ago, Kevyn sure is tucking his tail on spending money now. At the worst possible time. Edit: And Terry isn't innocent in all of this either. There is one common link that's been tied to this fourteen year drought, and it's him. Seems more concerned saving a few bucks and will let the franchise burn to the ground if that's what it takes.

Letting go of Skinner seems like a mistake. Hindsight obviously. There is no 2 ways about it though, this roster will hinge on Tage and Cozens pulling their weight again.

We are an absolute joke…. Get rid of most constant winger we have skinner who puts up 50+ every season…. So yeah let’s get rid of him and he’s gonna go win a cup now and yeah keep running our 3 top prospects leaving them down in minor leagues… we are the only team who doesn’t play and develop their young studs…. Now we have 30 million in cap space and we can’t even get a TOP TEAR player to come here cause we are such a JOKE…. We are MOVING FARTHER AWAY FROM PLAYOFF’S yet again!!!

NO ONE WANTS TO PLAY FOR SABRES!!!! Guys what can't you understand about that?! Remember hearing GMKA say "We want players who want to be a Buffalo Sabres?" That means they won't trade for guys who will phone it in while here.
@Likeitornot893 ай бұрын
Yes skinner can score and that’s about it .. he doesn’t play defense, doesn’t hit , doesn’t block shots , doesn’t put his body on the line and is a shit leader .. all that says and he was making 9 million aav .. no thanks skinner needed to go . You keep talking about goals for skinner but you also need to play defense .. 2 seasons ago we were top 5 in goals but couldn’t stop a nose bleed ..

Dont know if Adams reached out to Chandler Stephenson but Seattle gave him a very reasonable contract. Question for NY residents ( im in Ontario) what are the state taxes like in New York because I hear there are NO STATE taxes in Washington, Nevada , Florida & Tennesse and could this be a reason why players sign with teams in those states ?
