Sabres Revamp Bottom Six But Is That Nearly Enough?

On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Sabres fans hopeful for a flashy upgrade to the line up as NHL free agency kicked off were left disappointed, and Patrick Moran talks about the new additions on a busy but splash-free opening to the offseason that has them questioning how bad things really are for the organization.
NHL free agent stars like Steven Stamkos, Tyler Bertuzzi, Tyler Toffoli and Jake Guentzel among others felt like a pipe dream to Sabres fans and that feeling came to fruition on Monday. Hell, the Sabres didn't even really replace the recently bought out Jeff Skinner.
Buffalo did make a few signings with guys that realistically could improve their bottom six forward lines but aren't players that resonated with fans. Patrick has thoughts on Buffalo overpaying for Jason Zucker, adding forwards Sam Lafferty and Nicholas Aube-Kubel as well as finding more depth at goaltending with Felix Sandstrom. The team also re-signed Jacob Bryson.
Patrick also goes back to the well on a take he's been saying regularly since February--that the Sabres are the worst organization in all of pro sports right now with the proven fact that seemingly no one of value wants to come play here as part of the evidence. As explained, if the Sabres are going to end the longest drought in NHL history this coming season, it's going to be because the players already on the roster show dramatic improvement and find a way to stay collectively healthy. That and plenty more.

Sabres objectively earned a C-C+ grade on FA. Signed players they desperately needed more of (grit, compete, minute eaters, PK, size), they offloaded players they didn’t need, and they are supporting a young core with experienced role players. Nothing flashy but it’s an improvement

That's fair, but they jettisoned a guy who's at least designed to be a difference maker (Skinner) and they need to replace that, which they haven['t.. Zucker is NOT that guy.

@@talkingbuffalo do they though? Number of goals doesn’t equate to wins, nor does it equate to high quality performance, nor does it equate to effort. Skinner was a defensive liability, same reason fan favorite Olofsson never saw the ice. Give that opportunity to Peterka/Benson/Kulich or work out a trade in the coming months, Skinner didn’t belong and you had to rip the bandaid

2 years ago this roster was amoung the TOP in goals scored. The latest decrease in player production is largely based on the coaching side. With Lindy Here (back) that offense is coming back. Our 4th line is a hard hitting, shut down line that Lindy can use at his disposal, I think this upcoming season, the Sabres will be taking the NHL by storm

Don't you think Buffalo could have used their second round pick they used to get Malenstyn for acquiring a Chychrun in a trade instead. They could have got Malenstyn for a cheaper price.

I like that our bottom sox is tough now and arguably better but we did nothing to replace skinner. We need a too six goal scorer bad. If their plan is to put zucker or benson in the top 6 then we are in trouble.
