Great video Rick, I would love to see you train a wild mustang from scratch.

I love your long videos. And I must say, at first I did not have succes using some techniques, because I was a dummy. But after more and more of watching your videos I became aware of my own body language and applying the techniques became easier. I see my horse as my teacher, she already knows her language, I am the stupid human who wants to learn. The bond I have with my horse is getting better thanks to you!

Hello Rick, I grew up with horses, let's just say I was raised in the way of barn witches. I never agreed with their ways but that's how I thought it had worked since that was how I was raised. Since I have been watching your videos religiously I have a new way of working with horses. I feel I have a much better relationship with my horses now. So I need to think you from the bottom of my heart!! My family doesn't agree with my new horsemanship I have now developed by watching your videos and practicing your ways. However, my horses are behaving much better and we (my horses and I) are together like one now. So thank you so much!!

10:20 You taught me the most valuable things in horsemanship - awareness, patience, critical thinking, to see things differently, horsy talk. I'm very glad my life with horses started alongside your videos. Otherwise, I would be putting tiedowns on my horsies and similar stuff and won't bother listening to them.. I think it saved my life and health. Thanks a lot!

Thank you so much for the 'Sacking Out Horses' playlist, Rick. I'm rewatching the whole series and as usual I'm learning a great deal from you. You have put in a huge amount of hours to create these videos and I really, really appreciate it.

I've never had horses or done anything with them but I'm still fascinated learning how they think and behave. Your channel really opened my eyes on how stupid and cruel people can be with horses when for some reason, I had thought the horse world was fairly clean before. (Comment not related to the video by the way)
@trekadouble7574 жыл бұрын
I don't really think that there is any field related to animals that is clean. Even the animals that will just be our pets have to live in horrible conditions before they are adopted or bought. Even the animal protection services are not all clean. That is really sad. There are of course good people doing good things to animal all over the world, there good trainers, good breeders, but in general there is no clean field. Maybe just the vets.
@jesuisunepommedeterre46624 жыл бұрын
Treka Double Not even vets are clean. Some vets run their clinics strictly like a business. Especially exotic vets in my experience. Thankfully, there are honest vets around.

Please consider taking information from other sources as well. While I do appreciate Rick's love for horses and his determination to teach others on treating them well, some of the things he says aren't truly reliable, and deserve other opinions from experienced equestrians and horsemen.

Great video. Keep them coming. Getting the message out about pressure and release is so important. So much brute force and ignorance out there

And for the record, I like your videos, Rick. It feels like I'm having a conversation with a friend and mentor. People try to go so fast nowadays, I've found they don't even know how to hold a conversation. Online dating is tough when they don't know how to respond with anything longer than a two-word sentence! To clarify, there is a time and place to cut and edit for humorous effect, but it must be well placed in my opinion.

I went and watched several of his video's...he focuses on the scientific side and releasing chemicals....BUT....he knows what he's doing...he also focuses with pressure and release...i don't agree with everything but I like him...hes very time aware in video's.. he often asks who's filming how long it is...so I think why he cuts out bits

I would like to see you train a mustang from scratch too. We have so many here in Nevada that need good homes like yours. I am going to adopt one from the prison...not one that has been trained by Hank Curry or inmates that movie has made them way to expensive, we are going to do it the old fashion way break it ourselves and love him forever..

Hi Rick, you just made a funny video (I think the outfit is hilarious) very interesting. You added great comments: about the concept of release, about training being a process and "prior learning makes later learning easier". Nice explanation about the lip-licking, makes a lot of sense. You are one heck of an observer. Love to see your next video on this. Take care! Love to Buddy and Mr T

Talking about over flooding, my little boy would back away from our horse's but now he just throws his tools (wheel barrow) over the pasture fence....the horse's are over him they just come to his wheel Barrow and move on.......it's so cool how the horse's are over their nerves.....now my little boy and the horse's are one....so cool!!!

If you want to see some major flooding, watch Michael Gascon. Very popular trainer, especially in the paso fino breed, you should do some videos on him. He floods the crap out of horses to get quick and impressive results. He promotes himself as a natural horsemanship guy that rides in rope halters, but at the shows he is riding in some nasty bits, long shanks. The trainer I learned from years ago refers to him as a butcher, as he knows the family and how they train behind closed doors.

flooding tends to create a very dead or very oversensitive horse, it's a huge stressor and pressure on the horse, for me I choose to do little bits within the horses comfort zone until they're comfortable with me asking more of them, I tend to find things work out better that way. For a start the foundation is more solid if you need to go back you can and everything is planned out. Mutual trust is built through it, I'm aware that in the wild horses warn and push and can be dominant but they're not usually overly pushy about things and the horse usually has a choice as humans we tend to overpower and put things so in our favour that the horse has few options and becomes easily confused.

I just bought my and my filly's first saddle..decided a synthetic would be good for a first saddle. Anyway, she is only just this month turning 3, so I'm not planning on riding for a couple more years, but I wanted to get her used to seeing, smelling, feeling the equipment and stuff. Plus, I think I'm going to gradually add weight over time, and the saddle will help protect her back for that. Won't actually seriously start her until she's about 5, though.

Yeah very true videos just get cut to the next stage i notice that i think well what happened before that I always say not many videos can help they always to fast Nothing better than one to one person trainning You can ask questions You can not do that by watching videos Every horse is different Different temperment differnt personalty

I agree, I think he created a draw when he came to him. That's a beautiful mustang. That mustang looks like he has a lot of try in him, not a lot of resistance which is great when someone knows about horses and uses that try for good learning.

Rick, one thing I've been thinking about for a long time regarding your videos is that they have really great content AND you take the time to make it as long as it needs to be to get your message across. But I think there might be one thing you could do that you would feel really good about WHILE also making the videos more concise. Possibly consider cutting all the caveats. You give those barn witches a whole lot of acknowledgement and attention by pausing your MESSAGE to clarify the context of your position or give caveats or otherwise explain to people WHY it's okay to say what you're saying. I'm with you, brother! Those barn witches are annoying and everything you say about them is true. But, you know what??? ... Fuck 'em! Honestly, you do not owe those people even ONE concession. Your videos are YOUR content and YOUR decision as to the things you talk about. Let the haters hate. You don't have to explain to the rest of us any sort of validation that justifies your views and your advice. I LOVE your views and your advice. But when you pause to cover your bases, I get frustrated because I know YOU are frustrated. You know what I'd love to see? I'd love to see you just unashamedly present your views and advice and content nonstop from start to finish in a video and any barn witches who disagree or who feel like their heads are about to explode because of it can go fuck off. Honestly. You go for it, man! You make YOUR videos without any caveats and I guarantee you'll feel better about it. :) Rock on, Rick.

I wish you would do a video about how to keep a dog who goes ballistic when he excited playing and play fighting with another dog to the very limit of almost attacking. I took in a 6 month old stray who is part lab and part pit bull. He and the dog I had inherited (who I am correcting from ‘guarding’ me from the new dog) can explode at each other but not to the point of actually biting. The puppy is 30 lbs and the other older dog is 16lbs. I have started calming down the playing when the puppy starts getting excited. Trying to keep things VERY calm and peaceful. Thanks for any advice

@jesuisunepommedeterre46624 жыл бұрын
That just sounds like they’re playing rough. That’s how my German Shepherd pack plays. It sounds likes a couple of beast fighting but it’s just them wrestling and chasing each other. If they’re not biting, then they’re intentionally not killing each other. Dogs in packs still nip and mouth with teeth pressure to correct each other.
@JuliaN-fi9zw4 жыл бұрын
I would stop that behavior now. I had two dogs that would rough fight like that and it eventually escalated to them trying to kill each other in a dominance show. At this time I didn’t know how to read behavior and why they were actually fighting. From what it sounds like they’re trying to figure out who’s dominant over one another. Try showing them that you are always dominant over both no matter what
