This was basically the reason why Shareef Abdur-Rahim left Sacramento. He was essentially in charge with getting all of the information going into the 2014 draft. His guy was Payton, which would have filled a need for Sacramento as a defensive minded point guard who was pass first. They had just drafted McLemore in 2013, who was drafted for the exact same reasons why they ended up going for Stauskas. It was overlap. Stauskas is a one position player, as is McLemore. It was just dumb and a wasted pick.

I'm one of those guys. Analytics. I'll say this: What we do is very important, but we do NOT need to be the ones picking. In this draft, Payton wasn't the better analytics pick. Stauskas looked really good on paper. We base it on math. The good ones try to take fit and human element into account, but it's a mathematical formula. Lowest number wins. It's far from perfect, and that's why you have former players like Shareef heading the scouting. I can tell you what the numbers say, but I don't know a player's mindset. He does. The best departments(OKC, PHI, BOS) are an excellent blend of analytics and raw scouting.

Vivek just lives on his own planet, where none of his mistakes count and all of his past successes are still relevant. You'd think after years and years and years of bad decisions he's made as team owner would convince them that he's not good at running a front office, but men like him lack the humility and perspective to learn. Compare that to his staff, who correctly guess the first three picks while accurately projecting Embiid's ceiling, and smartly resolving to improve their perimeter defense with Payton. Meanwhile, Vivek's fetish for all things Warriors led him to demand a cheap knock-off.

It means that there’s a risk. A risk that he is making them to decide if it’s worth it or not.

God I hated this front office. Why is vivek making draft decisions? Pete thought that Parker was going #1 over Wiggins. Vivek thought that Wiggins is a shooting guard. Mullin is whispering sweet nothings into Vivek's ear. Disgusting.

Wiggins and Butler are interchangeable at the 2 and 3. If you paid attention, it actually had Wiggins listed as a shooting guard when he was drafted.

Stauskas was gone in a year, correct? This franchise also drafted Jimmer Fredette. I didn't see the GM being against the puck.

1:10 first off I’m a kings fan. So It makes me sad to say this. But holy shit look how young and amateur the gm’s team is. Shit looks like a group of freshman year interns

They were really screwed because there was no right answer at 8. In hindsight, Lavine should've been the guy. Saric would've been a decent pick as well. Jokic, Dinmiddie, Capela, Bogdan were too far to be considered at 8. The options at 8, were all just wrong.
@silewis93964 ай бұрын
A good point, so many like to say how wrong people are with the advantage of hindsight. Not mant had Lavine at 8 after what he showed at UCLA.

Like how much different would this team have been if they would've hit on literally half of their decisions. Ya know what, how about a quarter of their decisions.
@philmccracken1792 жыл бұрын
They literally could have drafted Doncic but decided to take Bagley.

Everything about this reads like some incredible dry comedy my favorite part is how all the scouts are desperately trying to prove their draft predictions like the guy who keeps saying Randle is going to LA and looking at the camera hopefully

Way too many YES men slobbing on Viveks knob here to tell him that he needs to just write the checks and let the basketball people build the team.

How did he overrule the scouts? I didn't see anyone disagree with the stauskis pick, they went around the table and they all wanted the same guy.

When I was a kid I attended Golden State Basketball Camp. Mullins did a shooting exhibition, talked to us about whatever it was and signed a poster we were given. I was the last person in line to get his autograph and thank him for the experience. He could care less and obviously wanted to leave asap. He was kind of a dick considering I was an 11 yr old kid.

Vivek is a great judge of talent. Stauskas is a golden state warrior legend. - let Klay go off for 37 in one quarter. - took the last shot in the 2022 nba finals during garbage time as the warriors win their 4th championship.
@jonathanparker17746 жыл бұрын
You know how you make it more of a perfect science? Lock Vivek out of the war room...Yes it's his money but he's too hands on. If your the GM you need to tell him "Stop, your not fucking Billy Beane"
@AlanSmith888888 ай бұрын
Looking back now, there wasn't really anybody the Kings could have drafted that would have been that much better. Well maybe Zach Lavine and Clint Capella.
