Hare Krishna The root कर्ष (Karsh) means to attract in Sanskrit Krishna thus means the One who attracts (Karshati iti Krishnah) We can chant the Hare Krishna Mahamantra 108 times daily. The 16 Syllabled Maha Mantra Viz. Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare Finds mention in Kali Santarana Upanishad. It is mentioned that there are no specific rules for chanting this mantra and that the one who chants it is liberated. In the traditional version Hare Rama precedes Hare Krishna while in some Hare Krishna precedes Hare Rama It does not make any difference.
