This is exactly the type of Urbex videos I like that almost no one makes; Quiet minimal talking, insightful with history, HD camera, no shaky footage, not a noisy teenager with a large group of friends. This entire neighborhood looks like it was bombed in a war.

This house was kept in the same middle-class family for decades. Much of that furniture dates from the 1930s and 1940s, and it's in sets. My guess is that Grandma (or Great-Grandma) kept the place together as long as she could with the help of family who lived with her until she died, leaving it to grandchildren who tried to maintain it -- but who fell behind as the house repairs got to be too much to handle and the neighborhood went to hell. Once a place like this is vacated it only takes a few years for it to fall this hard, maybe just three or four if the winters are cold enough to ruin the plumbing and radiators. With a few windows missing and scrappers stripping the wiring andbcopper pipes, it goes fast. I'm glad you got the photos that house's former owner had kept. She would never have wanted them to be left to deteriorate and be forgotten.

My parents own my great grandparents old house and in the few months it sat vacant (not abandoned, people were checking on it, but just not living there) it got some signs of decay especially in the basement.

Not to mention the heating costs. Hang three levels would be almost impossible to do at a decent price. And if it has the old windows (I didn't see new ones), it'd be even worse.

My family (great grandparents) had a home like this in Detroit. Similar thing happened. Factories closed, everyone moved out of the city and the neighborhood went bad. The house was set on fire and burned down years ago. I’m glad I was able to scan the family photos. Many were polaroids from the 60’s but there were also photos taken before the 50’s.

My mom's aunt had a house on a normal neighborhood and next to hers was my mom's grandma house too. Unfortunately, aunt's kids and grandkids she raised either fell in drugs, ran away or cut contact with her so she was left to fend for herself even when she went blind due to diabetes so her house started to fall everywhere. Great grandma was too old to help her and her house and her siblings weren't interested in helping so at the end she died alone and her house was abandoned because none of her kids was interested on it since it was already falling apart and the neighborhood was going to shit. Last time my mom visited great grandma, she said the house was boarded up but there were pictures and clothes scattered all over the place. Eventually great grandma died, her house was sold but I guess the new owners ended up losing it because it was also abandoned. Whenever I see videos like this and pictures scattered everywhere on the background, I think about my mom's aunt and how sometimes your own blood and flesh does not appreciate the little things around you or appreciate the memories of a better time. Great video, one of my favorites so far!

This makes me so very sad. 😢 That house must have been stunning in its prime. My ex-husband used to do a lot of work in houses about to be demolished or gutted for rehab. He told me that nothing kills a house faster than no one living in it. It's like the house needs the life in it to keep going. I am so glad that you took those pix with you! ❤

From the dates on the photographs, the children in the photos would be about my parents' age. It makes me so sad to see a family home destroyed like that, a family's memories and possessions left to us rot away and eventually be completely forgotten. Thank you for saving the photographs. If there's any way to find the children in the photos and return the photos and get an update on their lives that would be fascinating.

You can tell that this house was very elegant at one time, having plaster ceiling medalions on the first floor ceiling and a beautiful stairway with turned wood balusters and newels. It really has enough of the original details still remaining to be worth restoring, in my opinion. You can also tell by the conduits installed on the walls and ceilings upstairs that the house was built before electricity was available in the neighborhood and originally illuminated by gas wall sconces upstairs and gasoliers in the ceiling on the first floor. I had a 3-story house on the westside of Baltimore with those same design features, built around 1900. Glad you kept the photo history. Shame the family couldn't/didn't hang on to them.

There are signs in that house of it possibly being inhabited by an elderly person, possibly living alone. Sometimes, when elderly people like that suddenly die, there's no one around to claim the house. Sometimes no one is interested in dealing with it, so it just sits there, abandoned.

They were families who made homes and lives and had happy celebrations. They made plans for the future and did what they could to live and provide and thrive. At one time there was love there. I wish those folks well wherever they are today. Judging from the photos they appeared to be very lovely people.

We are only a formation of our memories and experiences. Have empathy for the people that come and go and the memories that are formed and lost. Time is fleeting, pass on the lessons you've learned, the traditions of your family so that even when your mortal form is gone a part of you will live on. Be who you want to be
