In all honesty, the cemetery would most likely be in worse condition if the City of Baltimore owned/managed the property.

I had the same thoughts when watching the video. Baltimore as a municipality only maintains select history, there are plenty of ruined areas there. I would also think that in any given space in certain parts of town you wouldn't have to look far too find homeless folks and needles and trash are everywhere. Charm city, hon... The city that bleeds.

Awesome video. William Patterson was the patriarch of the family with shipping and banking interests. Robert was one of his sons and he himself also owned ships and founded several businesses including the Bank of Baltimore. William and his wife Dorcas had thirteen children. Their daughter Elizabeth was married to Jerome Bonaparte, Napoleon's brother. There is a Facebook page for a volunteer organization that does occasional clean-up days at the cemetery.

Somebody has to be paying "property taxes" on the cemetery.
@eviehammond95095 жыл бұрын
God knows something like paying taxes would NEVER go overlooked!!🤣The buildings & environments may fall into disrepair or be abandoned, but someone will always be available to charge & collect the property taxes on them!!😂
@billybareblu5 жыл бұрын
Well they offered the property to the city and the city refused it, so even if the taxes weren't paid, they obviously didn't want to seize it. Then they'\d be responsible for it.

Has anyone every heard of or been to Mickey and Sadie's bar? It was at 100 Albemarle St. I haven't been able to locate them online. The last time I was there was when my dad passed away in the hospital near Johns Hopkins University hospital. Mickey and Sadie were friends of his and took care of the funeral arrangements for me, as I lived in New Jersey. I had never met them in person, but my dad talked about them a lot and had lived above the bar while he was in the Merchant Marines. He passed away over fifty years ago, in 1967. I hope someone remembers my dad. His name was Jeff Davis.

Excellent video Dan , I like old cemeteries , there's just something about them. A few years ago I went into the cemetery where Edgar Allan Poe is buried and while being the only visitor there I definitely did not feel like I was alone. I remember going to the Hippodrome in 1966 to see " Tbe Blue Max " and " The Battle of the Bulge " War Movies. Thanks for all the great videos., keep up the good work and please be safe.

Dan, I'm not sure when the Apollo Theater building was finally abandoned, but if you look at the photo from Google Street Map, the glass doors in the front were still intact as of the date on the picture, which was October 2014. So it's a fair guess that it was being used up to or very close to that date.

They have elevated cemeteries like this all over Europe, their retaining walls usually beside sidewalks in cities. Caretaker is likely private, perhaps hired by lawyers dealing with the estate. Established in 1793; that's nicely old, for Murka. It's eerie inside the place, claustrophobic and secluded. It'd be a great place to shoot a horror movie. Or do a ghost hunt, although current wisdom is ghosts don't hang around cemeteries, and who could blame 'em? Very cool place.
