The gay thing isn't really "supposed" to be an issue for most of these characters. I get the sense that Vivzie wanted to write her fantasy world to accept homosexuality as baseline normal, with a few characters who maybe don't like it. Most of the issues are to do with class and aristocracy: Stolas is clearly highborn and Blitzø is... very not.
@SaiyanSerenityV3 ай бұрын
Right, I can't blame people for jumping to that conclusion since homophobia is still common, especially when exploring biblical settings and themes, I love that Viv's shows have a mostly queer cast but it being set in hell must immediately set alarm bells for a lot of people. I probably would have had a similar first impression if I wasn't introduced to the Hazbin pilot initially by a friend who followed the crew closely and knew that Viv stated that just being gay was not a reason to be sent to hell
@KalaamNozalys3 ай бұрын
What is interresting is that Stella is mostly upset not because Stolas cheated on her, but that he did so with an Imp of all things, not another noble, in their own room. And even him trying to make an excuse of not having time to go to a motel for it (lol, Stolas please) upsets her even more because that's what "plebeians" do.
@reperfan43 ай бұрын
Exactly. It's not her being homophobic, it's her being a combination of classist as well as racist. If Stolas had managed to seduce another Ars Goetia class demon then even if it was a gay relationship she would feel very differently about it because...well, to elaborate might get into potential spoilers so I won't here just to be safe. The point is she's not mad because it's a gay relationship, she's mad because it's with an Imp who are supposed to be "beneath their station" as high-ranking demons.

Helluva LOVES the tonal whiplash, personally is one of my favorite things about it. It builds tension, releases a bit of it, and the builds it MORE, its a very unique experience and I appreciate the boldness of sticking with it while also toning it down for specific scenes that aim for core character behavior. Its why I consider it a bit more niche than Hazbin, it really leans a bit more on Brandon's brand of Storytelling, but I personally like it more bc its much more character-heavy.

It's done intentionally and to serve the show as a whole, and I get annoyed when I see creators who hate the whiplash keep watching the show episode after episode and who keep criticizing it for it. *Cough *SarcasticChorus *Cough * Like... Minor correction because I am obsessed exclusively about this in particular: He doesn't call it a "soulless copy" or call the Fizz it's based on "shitty", he specifically says "I make more money killing ppl than you do being a *cheap ass robo rip off* of an _overrated_ sell-out jester". While we don't know and will probably never will know what made these two fall out since this Robo Fizz is presumably destroyed, they do seem to have all the same hallmarks of Blitz self destructing the relationship as we see in ep 3. And given Robo Fizz's very strong reaction to this line, immediately evoking love and assuming Blitz still can't find/accept love, we can probably assume it knew some amount about Blitz's sentiments for the original Fizz and this was a particularly low blow for Blitz to throw out, if of course the Robo Fizz knows the implications of that for Blitz's mindset in getting involved with it. RIP to Robo Fizz, probably kinda in the right knowing our boy Blitz, just tried to kill the wrong ex-whatever. Thank you for coming to my TEDtalk.

The character of Stolas changed massively from the pilot to the actual show, with the change in voice actor. As you have seen he became a much more emotional and relatable character rather than just a sexually deviant royal. In my opinion this is a change for the better as his dynamic with blitz becomes very interesting as the show progresses.

Agreed! I think the change in Stolas' character is the best decision Viv made with this series. 17:07 Stella is Hella racist and privileged. She doesn't care that Stolas cheated, she cared that he slept with an Imp, which is the 2nd lowest class of being in Hells caste system, which are above only Hellhounds. For Stella it isn't a loyalty thing, she can not stand Stolas and enjoys hurting him. However it's public knowledge that Stolas fu ked an Imp, her friends were at the tea party when he fell on the cake with the book. And so now she sees it as her reputation as being ruined among Hells elite. Had he slept with someon3 of higher rank, or kept his imp fucking a dirty secret, she wouldn't care. But since it's now public information it now reflects badly on her "Oh did you hear, Stolas would rather fuck an Imp that his wife, SCANDALOUS~"

The animation and writing is about equal... if anything, Hazbin would have been made into 2 8 episode seasons like Hellva. and not been so compressed. thats why the 8 episode thing bothers people so much, Hazbin was such a whiplash start to finish, no one got the slow buildup. made even further worse by the fact the Hazbin aired it's 8 episodes over 4 weeks also Vivizie's case was very unique and perfectly times. we where (and still are) in a sorta Animation drought. where AAA studios are sabotaging themselves so before Hazbin even realised. the viewers where in a win:win scenerio. if both succeed, win... is Hellva was good, and Hazbin was mid or worse... it becomes proof that the AAA studios are the problem, not the talent

I've noticed that TB gushes over the animation in this show in a way he didn't do for Hazbin, and that says a lot to me

According to Christian mythology, the Goetia are the 72 demons that were bound to the service of King Solomon, and used to create all his great works and such. Stolas was one of those demons, and their chief domain was astronomy, thus all the stars and space motifs

Fizzarolli’s animation is always so fun to look at. What’s nice is that we get to see him more during the series :D

Its so fun to watch these episodes again with the context of the later episodes - so many things are set up in advance that you can't really appreciate the first time around... but it makes for a great rewatch! All I can say for now is that most, if not all, of your questions will be answered in time (also, GOD i love that sad bird man... he needs a hug)

so much unexpected depth and quality in this show! Skyen is gonna loooove the Fizzy arc, I just know it. And Stolas' backstory 🥲

I do find it interesting that, when asked for their fave episode of S1, I've see 2, 3, 5, 6, 7 and 8 all put forward. I don't think I've ever seen someone say 1 or 4, which, yeah. For me it's either 6 or 7.

Stolas and Stella's relationship is eventually elaborated on as the show continues on, primarily in season 2. Im not sure if you can even explain parts of it without spoiling the show

A few nonspoiler details you might appreciate. Stolas is a "real" demon from Christian demonology, one of the 72 princes in the royal family known as the Ars Goetia. The owl demon is relatively benign compared to others of his kind, a dealer in knowledge. He's known for being an expert in astronomy, astrology, exotic plants, and gemology. Hence the constant stellar references along with all of the strange plants in his home. The circular symbol supposedly needed to summon him briefly shows up in the pilot and a few other times in the show. In this universe, the ars goetia are effectively the ones who run hell. Lucifer's family and the deadly sins rank above them, but they're mostly off doing their own thing.

Kinda surprised Skyen never mentioned how Robo-Fizz is functionally dead naming Blitzø. Blitz mentioned that the o is silent now, and Robo-Fizz still used vocalized it. I mean yes Blitzø is an ass but he's never dead named someone.

Well, Stolas' wife is mad he went for an imp. She didn't say "man", she said "imp". The "problem" will be explained by the show itself later on.

Fun fact - keep an eye out in following episodes for the character selling the torches. (; Regarding the scene where Stella complains about Stolas having slept with an imp - I don't think it's really openly explained but you can guess from the context and her saying something along the lines of "royalty" and "plebeian" that there is a class/status issue here. There is a hierarchy in hell after all (for hellborns and sinners alike) and imps are regarded lower class while Stolas and Stella are royalty.

Uuuuuhh, as so often I love how on the money you are with some of your theories/predictions for future episodes (of course not clarifying which ones!) Can't wait for you to get to so many of those things (to be as non-specific as possible)! Also, there is never enough Alex Brightman in any show. Love all of his performances so much. What can I say, this show sure does contain multitudes! You're probably gonna have a field day with episode 6 in more ways than one!
