I remember seeing them at the store as we lived just behind. I was just a small boy at the time. We would take empty bottles to Park N Shop and get money to buy 10 cent hot dogs. The last time I saw them they had dyed red hair and never seemed to smile ever. I never knew until I was older that the were conjoined twins, just thought they walked close to each other. I remember my mother coming home one day and telling us they had died of the Hong Kong flu. As a child I never knew of their troubled life. Thank you for telling their story.

My mother used to take me around that area in Charlotte during the 80’s, when I was a child. She would tell me stories & history of the area. And many times mentioned Daisy & Violet. She liked seeing them as a child, when her family would go grocery shopping at Park n Shop. She told me of their sad life back then.

Yes, they could have been separated, because they did not share organs, and had all their limbs. I wonder, if they looked into having surgery. A big money maker for the greedy people around them. Sad.

Bless Houdini, a wonderful evasion artist with enough compassion in his heart to guide them towards a better direction... He could have treated them like trash and nobody would have batted an eyelash then, yet he didn't do so.

They were slaves for a long time! It's sad because in our time , they probably could have been separated, since they did not share any major organs. May Daisy and Violet rest in peace ❤❤ Thank you for sharing this story, I hadn't ever heard of them.

Great vlog! I had only heard of their younger life. The grocery was great, making a way for them to both work so each could get a paycheck and be independent. They had it tough God Bless their souls ❤

One thing I really like about grocery stores is they tend to be very open to hiring young people looking for their first jobs, elderly people looking to make an extra buck, and special needs people who want some autonomy. I know a person who has worked at the same store since high school. This person is very good at their job and takes great pride in it.

They worked in a store here my Aunt used to see them the were very quiet they would say hi every now and then they talk about their circus carreer the store was Park n Shop the one on Wilkinson they had two the other one was on North Tryon it’s now a compare food store now.

I never knew anything about them..first time hearing this. I use to live close to the store they worked at Wilkinson. Now I'm gonna go find them in the graveyard if I can walk good enough to get therefore they are resting. Such a shame all the way around,to be treated like they were. They're resting peacefully, until the great Resurrection of all dead. Thank You for sharing their story..gone but not forgotten ❤

What beautiful looking girls/women. What a sad story. I think it's terrible to be treated like nothing when they were just human being like all of us. I think they had more heartache than love in their lives. So nice to see a grave stone for them and people visiting and remembering them. Thanks for sharing this story love from West Yorkshire UK 🇬🇧 ❤️ 💙 💜💚🩶🩷🖤

Hi Jordan and Katie this was such a sad story really feel for them what a very hard life they had probably because they had each other it made them grow up strong together and having that close bond it’s a shame that people exploited them but in them times they were seen as odd people so they used them to make money of them both but in the end at least it was so generous of the lady to pay for their graves may they rest in peace

Perhaps they should have considered getting medically separated. The way they were joined allowed them to have their own vital organs. Separating would not have posed a risk to their lives. They shared circulatory function however I think they would have been able to adapt once they were separated. When Daisy died Violet was trapped. She could not move freely with the weight of her sister acting like an anchor. If they had been separated maybe she would have been able to get to the phone and call for help. Indeed, a sad end to their lives. I hope the people who took advantage of them are rotting in hell for all eternity.

I saw the movie FREAKS years ago and had an instant love/hate feeling about it. It was probably due to the fact that I'm a paraplegic in a wheelchair and some of the looks and comments would get sometimes. But for the 35+ years I've been paralyzed, it doesn't come close to what these two women went through. May they rest forever more in the arms of Jesus. ✝️🙏🏻🕊🔥❤️✝️🙏🏻🕊🔥❤️

The flu season in 1968-9 was an incredibly virulent global pandemic that killed between 1-4 million people, including my own Grandmother. Originating in China, it is believed that it entered the United States in September, 1968, via troops returning home from service in Vietnam and by December there were recorded cases in all 50 states. Those were very hard years to stay healthy since in 1967-68 an epidemic of the parent H2N2 flu virus had already marched through the United States and weakened much of the populace. H2N2 primarily attacked those over the age of 45 and those who had compromised immune systems; the CDC eventually estimated that globally over one million people died with between 34,000-100,00 in the United States alone.
