Love that Brief Case made a guestplay. His channel is one of my favourites for his dedication to include the general social and economic conditions in society as a whole in which his story about the specific persons take place.❤

Love that you worked alongside Brief Case! Along with Forgotten Lives, Brief Case, The Crime Reel & That Chapter are my go to for true stories. You all have voices I could listen to for hours xx Bit of an edit:- I don't recognise the voice narrating about Henrietta Robinson, but he is very easy on the old ears. Clear diction. Lovely.

18:33 I think it's worth noting that Hetty Green had to pay her husband's (Edward) debts, which amounted to $702,000. Adjusted for inflation, that's somewhere in the ballpark of $22,000,000 in 2023. I don't care how easily you may be able to pay that off, that's a lot of money to pay to get someone else out of debt. I'm glad you mentioned they reconciled later in life. After Edward passed away, he was buried in a burial ground that only interred Episcopalians. Hetty was a lifelong Quaker. So she converted and became an Episcopalian just so that she could be buried next him.

Well, you do take vows that say, "For better or for worse..." I know it's almost unheard of today, but some people actually used to take them seriously.

If my Mother's meanness had cost me a leg in childhood, I'd have thoroughly enjoyed spending her precious money too! I hadn't heard of her before. Gliding stinkily through the gilded age.

I seem to remember her from the Guinness Book of World's Records. She made the list as the cheapest woman in history. I recognize that picture of her in that old, stinky, tattered dress but I I never realized how truly sick she was. I'm glad that her son had at least a few years to enjoy that wealth.

@alspence did he hoard a massive amount of money, preventing anyone else from being able to use it? Her spending that money would have helped countless people. This is why trickledown economics doesn't work, the rich just sit on the money.
