2 and a half years later and here I am blubbering like a baby watching this video. Laura this is such a beautiful testament to your kitty and I can feel the love that you had for him. I'm so sorry that your time with him was cut short. We also lost a cat about a year and a half after getting him and he was also a very special cat. It seems as though the super special ones just aren't meant to be with us for too long, but just long enough to leave their impression on our hearts. Hey guys, in the video I never really explained what happened to Dexter, and the truth is, we don't know. We found him on our property, and he had clearly been attacked by some other larger animal. 😔 We don't know if Dexter picked the fight and tried to get back home or if it actually happened on our property. Tough days. We really miss our buddy. 💜🐈

The fact that so many comments are about us all crying (including myself) over a cat we've never met or interacted with is a testament to how special Dexter really is. And I say 'is', not 'was' purposefully. He's still special even though he's no longer with us. Sorry for your loss of Dexter. I lost a cat to poisoning when I was very young so any cats I have had from kitten hood until death were never let outside. Generally they lived longer lives protected inside. Deaths due to illness have occurred. This was in the 1950 s when the poisoning happened I never forgot the pain. Just recently I have put my kitty Jay-Jay (age 13)on a harness and lease and walk around the yard and garden for a few minutes. He is happy and is ready to go back in after his short jaunt. So many dangers outside. I have helped rescue 3 strays this past year and turned them over to “ no kill shelters” . I would think a feral cat may not take to being an indoors cat only and you did the best you could. Cats know when they are loved. Very sorry for your loss. I too am reading this long after Dexter left his loving home and know only Russell and Cheddar. This is such a loving tribute to the gift that was Dexter. I did not watch your videos back then, when Dexter was your kitty, and I came upon this video today, and it made me so sad. So sorry for your loss. We have a kitty very similar to Dexter and his name is Dillon. We rescued him several years ago and he is such a loving kitty just like Dexter was. My heart goes out to you. ♥️

I was just introduced to your channel, and I want to say I am sorry to hear about Dexter. We too lost a beloved pet, in May, he had to be put to sleep after nearly 16 years, and it still hurts to think of him sometimes, but the tears are starting to go from sorrow to happy. We're happy for the life he had with us, and we're happy for his spirit, which will be with us forever. I write a lot of poetry, and I wanted to share a poem with you. I wrote this one for Charlie, almost two months after his passing. I know Dexter will live on in your hearts forever, and his memories will bring you so much joy. 6/17/2017 ALL THOSE YEARS... All those years, that you were here. I never ONCE took you for granted. I would cherish the moment anytime, each time, I sat with you and petted. You would look at me with those big green eyes, and often times you would stretch out, and relax. You would roll over, and purr. It was music to my ears, like jazz from a sax. After three minutes or so, you'd turn at me and snap. A quick bite, to let me know, you wanted to take a nap. I really liked taking you outside. I'd pick you up, and secure you in my arms. We would go outside, and walk around the yard. You'd snuggle up close to me, free from all harms. Back in the house we'd go, and you would have a burst of energy. You'd run full speed through the house, until your needle hit empty. Then the cold winter nights, I'd be getting ready for bed. You'd sit on the floor, while I pulled the covers back. And, then I had to put you on the bed. After I settle in for my slumber. I'd feel you walking up to lay next to me. You would poke me in the ribs, as you softened me up, kneading me. It would make me jump, sometimes, it hurt so much. You didn't do many things gently, not so much. But, there is one thing, that you knew how to do. That was, to share your heart, and say, I love you. No, you never spoke it, you are a cat. But you let us know it, with your actions, and all that. That's why, when I learned, it was time to stop your pain. I took you back to the truck, and talked to you once again. I thanked you for all the memories, and all those years of love. I cried, and so did you. As we exchanged our love. I wanted to give you one more trip outside, so I put you in my arms. And, I walked with you through that parking lot, holding you close in my arms. I carried you inside, in my arms. You just stayed close to me, as I carried you back. Mom came to be with us, she helped us through. As I walked out of the room, I kept looking back. I knew, what had to be done, wasn't going to be easy. But, nothing in life, is ever easy. Charlie we had almost 16 years together, and, we're still adding years. Because, until the end of time, you're still with me, for all those years.

What a sweet cat Dexter was! When you eventually get to where you want another kitten; get two. It’s nicer for them. When we unexpectedly had one of our cats die, we didn’t last two weeks before getting another. But we still miss Poppy.

I have been watching and enjoying your videos for only a short time. I haven't been watching the videos in any particular order but I had enjoyed the video of when you moved into your home and introduced Dexter. I had asked about Dexter and had been wondering about him when randomly this video popped up on my feed. I was glad to find it. Ive had a few strays wonder into my life and became part of my family. The day they decide to come in from outdoors grace your home with their presence is truly wonderful! In the part of the state where I live, cats are legally deemed 'free spirits' and are protected by law to roam wherever they please. And it's their nature to be free spirits. Thank you for sharing even if it's sad news. We also have a kitty we call, Meow Meow, who adopted us. Through micro chip technology we found out his name was Mr.Kitty. We changed it to Oreo with his vet, being black with white. I'm a dog groomer 30 yrs and allergic to cats so my hubby does all necessary brushing. Rescuing is being promoted in hopes to help over taxed shelters. Every breed has a rescue and our Herding/Working breeds, G. shepherd, Austrian Shep., Boxer, Golden Retriever make excellent family companions. And as your son grows can take rough play far better than say a Chihuahua could. Need to figure out whether you care if dog sheds hair or choose one that needs grooming like Poodle, Schnauzer, etc. You gave Dexter a wonderful life for all any of us want is to be loved:) God Bless

I am just heartbroken for you and we will all miss Dexter in the videos. I also had a once in a lifetime cat named Murphy. I got her at the humane society. I went to get a male tabby but Murphy claimed me immediately. She was a dark gray and white. She would run to the door when she heard my car, she would nibble on the underside of my neck like she was trying to nurse. I could toss her a treat and she would stand on her back legs, catch it with her paws and then put it in her mouth like a big squirrel. We had to put her to sleep when she was about 2 years old because of an extremely painful and incurable ailment. It broke my heart, and 8 years later I still miss her. I am so sorry about your Dexter.

Oh my Lord!!!!! I am new to your channel, but watched older videos with Dexter. Then I started watching newer videos without Dexter and was wondering what happened to him!!!!! For some reason I this video popped up and I watched. I literally have a huge lump in my throat and literally balling. I am the type that almost loves animals more than most, not all, but most humans. So, this hits me hard and I am so sorry. Thank GOD he had you two as his parents who showed him amazing love!!!!!! Seriously! Thank God he got to experience that before he ever passed away.

I have been watching you and Garden Answer for a long time now and did not know about Dexter. He was beautiful. I have had cats and love them. They have so many great qualities and love their people. I know you have your wonderful cat now but one does not replace the other in our hearts. Thank you so much for all the joy you bring me through watching your videos. I'm new to your channel and have been binge watching your videos. I loved seeing Dexter. What a wonderful life he had. We lost our cat six months ago and we were so brokenhearted. He meant the world to us and not a day goes by I don't think of him. We went through a long time of grieving him. God Bless!

Saddened by these news. I love Dexter. Seeing him in your videos made me so happy. He was such a great cat and I will miss him dearly. I tried to watch this video 3 times and can't even get to half of it without crying. So sorry, He will be greatly missed by many.
