I was a bit off on this exploration, so bear with me folks. I guess the shock of seeing this once, not so long ago, beautiful house having suffered the usual fate of time shook me up a bit. Or maybe it was the uneasy feeling I felt there. It’s such a tragic tale of why this home is abandoned, and I almost felt I was invading a tomb. Either way I am glad I at least got it on video and preserved in some way.

Growing up passing this home, it was my dream home. All my life I said when I became an adult I wanted to buy it. I became an adult and it was listed for sale!!! It needed massive work. Not long after it was listed for sale the roof completely caved in!!!! My heart was broke and I know I will never recover. I am completely drawn to this house, it calls my soul.
@adolfiehillarious60764 жыл бұрын
If you feel that way, you should fix it! There are many old structures in just as bad and even worser shape than this, being renovated now everyday! With every passing day, these old structures are another day older and closer to non-existsnce, in another 20 years you will look back in disgust without the oportunity you do have at the present to reclaim, it's this stalling, putting off till tomorrow what COULD BE DONE TODAY, that got this place in such disrepair to start with, so I'm sure if, as you say, this home speaks from your soul, make no mistake about it, when you hear it say fix-me, be thankful for the chance to sodo, as it won't continue to present itself in such a state of desparation as it has up till now, no, that fate of time, is listing also, even if, by default! Put it back, while you still can!

@@adolfiehillarious6076 Renovated is not exactly a good description, rebuilt with original materials is more like it. Locally, we have rebuilt Fort Vancouver. All buildings were built as they were originally, on original footprints and with the same type of tools. Read: No power tools! We were lucky enough that when our boys were growing up, the work was going on and our sons got to see some of that construction which was fascinating! It took much more time, but everything is authentic in its structure.

Aloha! And thank you for sharing this sad, but interesting story! I find this video especially interesting because last semester,I was going to make a video for my college media class about our visitors in Hawaii, & how (for some odd reason), when they are DRIVING on vacation in Hawaii, a lot of the time, they DON'T obey our traffic laws. I know that a lot of them believe that they are somehow "immune" from getting tickets, etc. So many visitors go to luaus, or just lay out on the beach drinking all day, they then get in their car & drive(after drinking), or they go swimming in the ocean & drown, because they're not used to the wave action, & occaisonal undertows/ inebriated swimming(just since Jan, 2019, eleven souls have drowned on my island). No, I'm not saying those folks that owned that home did anything out of the ordinary, it could have just been an accident. But, about 9 times out of 10, (and even just today while I was coming home in traffic, a jeep full of tourists was speeding & weaving in & out of traffic,), the visitors are usually the cause of fatal accidents here. I think a sign should be at the baggage claims/rental car companies reminding people that we are a state of the union, & they must obey our traffic laws...P.S. I wonder if that place is haunted? Perfect circumstances for a haunted house! Too bad its all fallen in, looks like it was once a very nice home.

It saddens me how little we regard our history. If we did our best to preserve our heritage maybe we would be less prone to take things like hot and cold running water, washers, driers, refrigerators and ice cubes for granted! I once had the opportunity to explore a house in the desert of Eastern California that was abandoned for the exact same reason. The only difference was the 70's era van the family died in had been towed back to the house. I felt such an overwhelming sense of sadness. I only wish I had somehow been able to document what I saw. That was the late 70's, though. The only video cameras available back then were huge, clunky, expensive things. Oh, well.

That passageway is called a portico, and was used to shield the visitor or owner from the elements as they left their buggy or auto. That is too low for a stagecoach to pass under. But we have these in Savannah. The predecessor to a carport.I love the shutters on either side of the double door. I can see ladies with baskets and children at their side in getting their dry goods. Just seeing the poison oak all over it, I get itchy.
