If anyone is curious about being obese and anorexic at the same time: previously anorexia was diagnosed based on weight/bmi. In recent years practitioners have prioritized the mental and behavioral aspects of anorexia when evaluating because many people exhibit the exact behaviors and experience the health risks associated with anorexia (often dying of suicide, starvation, or abusing drugs). Anorexia and bulimia are extremely common in "overweight" people and can exist alongside a binge eating disorder. Im not sure what commentary the n-word lady was trying to make, but this isnt woke ideology, its just recognition that fat people also starve themselves to death and just because they didnt become skinny first doesnt mean they dont have a mental disorder.
@PoopHobbit7 ай бұрын
Sorry... nothing is woke ideology. I mean that it's explicitly not a political commentary, and if conservatives hate fat ppl so much they should be invested in this diagnostic expansion because it's impossible to maintain weight loss as a fat person suffering from a binge/purge or binge/starvation cycle (aka diet cycles). They're just stupid 😭
@soldiaz72614 ай бұрын
@@PoopHobbit yeah, it’s honestly kind of insane that anorexia used to be diagnosed only based on if it was _working._ that seems a bit counter-productive (and also likely contributed to a lot of the more toxic aspects of the pro-anorexia community; everyone diagnosed was skinny or losing weight, so it was easier to say that it was effective. a lot of factors went into that mess though)
@7legspider4 ай бұрын
@@soldiaz7261 you're totally right, and i'd never actually thought of it that way before. "it was only diagnosed if it was working" - that's like if a person was only considered suicidal if they'd already died by suicide. to use weight as primary criteria detracts from the fact that first and foremost, it is a MENTAL disorder. so honestly thanks for putting it like that! it makes a lot of sense. (if anyone's wondering how a fat person could starve to death, it's because your body has to break down muscle to sustain brain & blood cells. your heart is a muscle, so it gets weakened and stops working. so a fat person & thin person with the same muscle mass would be at the same disadvantage)

oh and oops i hope this is implied but atypical ana was definitely scapegoated by RW media, especially the less fact-based outlets (but let’s be real… all of them). it happened in the same way trans people and literally every single marginalized group in history has been. they of course do not really care about eds or psychology, because it has everything to do with fatphobia, white supremacy, hate, and control. tess holliday especially was targeted so much for this! idk the exact stats but most fat women at least have struggled with disordered eating. in practice, its not hard and fast diagnostic-aligned behavior all of the time because restricting gives way to binging which gives way to purging. its a very draining cycle and is something to be mindful of when we oversimplify res/BED behavior to being just “too much” or “too little” or something. so we should should all have more compassion for fat people when they open up about eds and call people out when they have their fake “health concerns” because we know they’re just furious at the fact that someone (especially a woman) could exist in a way that doesn’t perfectly align with their rigid expectations

the to kill a mockingbird thing was so real. my white english teacher LITERALLY did that. i live in the south
@elliottlupin2 ай бұрын
No bc it reminds me of my 8th grade English teacher very confidently saying the r- word while reading from some book in front of the entire class. I never had To Kill A Mockingbird as assigned reading in school so I managed to not have that experience.

@@elliottlupin That's definitely nowhere near as bad, some words are terrible to direct towards people and need context while other words just shouldn't be said entirely

I had the same thought like "wow, the Boys nailed Firecracker" except honestly Firecracker was more charismatic. Guess being a genuine theater kid (actress) actually could have helped her xD.

Jordan is the second person calling her not charismatic, Josh Johnson said the same thing. It killed me 😂

im litterally half-black, my uncle's litterally straight from Africa and yet i am still SO nervous about saying the n-word it amazes me how some pale people are able to say it.
@ovgem6 ай бұрын
both my parents are african immigrants. i had a phase where i typed the n word alot just in conversation (never irl!) but i feel uncomfortable even saying it. people (mainly white friends) sometimes jokingly pressure me to say it. black people around me dont seem to care if non black people say it which at first made me think i was in the wrong. i realize now that they were just being dumb and i had every reason to be mad at someone for saying a slur.
