My dad used to say one of the most magnificent creatures on earth is a wild bucking horse that refuses any rider. Until a little POA he was working with for my sister just strolled over to a corral fence post and shoved his leg into it breaking it in enough places to have to pin it the length of the Femur. Sneaky little POA made me appreciate not riding until riding a half Thoroughbred, half Tennessee Walker Gelding that loped smooooth as a Cadillac all day long. I didn't want to put him up but my GF made me 'cause it was her dad's.

@xxibitsuxx The broncs you see are so well taken care of. They have access to the veterinary care at all times, get inspected regularly, and are fed high quality food. The only way you can have a good performance, is if the animal performs well. An injured, spooked, scared, and abused animal is not going to perform. These horses are trained and bred to do what they do.

@CrimsonxTears Well... a lot of these horses aren't broken yet, and the ones that are, are trained to buck. It is bad on any other horse, but on broncs, it's alright. A lot of the horses you see people use to catch the bronc after the rider falls off are ex-saddle broncs. They turn into great horses.

@sigridandbilly They have a flank strap to enhance the motion of the buck. They're going to buck anyway without it, the flank strap it just put on snug on their flank to keep the motion straighter and higher. The flank strap isn't put on very tight, because if you get it too tight, they don't move. It's also made to loosen as they buck.

@queenluciaa For one, we only use a cattle prod when the horse is stalled in the chute and won't leave, because it's much more dangerous for the animal, and the rider to be bucking in the chute when they get too excited. The animals have to be well taken care of and treated well in order for them to perform. They are as much athletes as we are. If they can't perform, neither can we. We're dependant on each other. Horses cost a lot of money, especially Rodeo horses!
@thegreatnoldini
@thegreatnoldini 13 жыл бұрын
@queenluciaa That depends on which cattle prods you buy. The ones we used are designed for moving horses and cattle around through chutes, and they do NOT hurt. I've been shocked by them. I highly doubt you have any experience with horses. Most broncs become really good horses once they're done competing in the rodeo circuit. If the horse was untrusting, then he probably wasn't a good bronc and was sold to someone who had the time to take care of him. I find no fault in this.

@AnimalLeftist The "maker of the hotshot" says not to use it to lead horses around, like you would in a pen. It says nothing about using it on a horse that's stalled in a bucking chute. However, most people won't even use the hotshots anyway. They don't like to. A horse's hide is three times thicker, meaning they don't feel the shock as bad as you or me would, and even I say it doesn't hurt because I've been shocked by one before.
@thegreatnoldini
@thegreatnoldini 13 жыл бұрын
@AnimalLeftist Yes, that horse was bred to buck. However, horses are skiddish animals. So yeah, they'll get excited and they'll jump around in the chute a bit. All young horses will act a bit skiddish, whether they're bucking horses or not.

@xxibitsuxx A standard cattle prod, or "hotshot" only lets out around 5,000 volts. A standard police tazer lets out 11,000 to 50,000. To give you an idea of the difference. 5,000 volts doesn't hurt too bad. I've been shocked by it. A horse's hide is 3 times thicker than human skin, and a bull's hide is 7 times thicker. So they don't feel nearly as much shock from it as we would. It's just a signal to get moving. Experience with animals doesn't lie, bud.
@thegreatnoldini
@thegreatnoldini 13 жыл бұрын
@AnimalLeftist Wrong. Saddle bronc riding evolved out of breaking horses in the hard way. Now they are just trained to buck and you have to spur the horse and make it look cool. They're not going to be broken in, and the horses aren't in pain or anything while they are bucking saddle bronc or bareback riders off.

@AnimalLeftist Well an electric shock, no matter how high the voltage is, is going to cause a reaction. Duh. Rodeo's aren't run by big mega corporations either. Rodeo isn't a business anybody gets rich doing. Stock contractors, contestants, and rodeo companies alike don't make all that much money. It's just something they like to do. Yes, these horses do like what they do. Not all of them do, but most of them do. The ones that don't are usually sent off to other places.

@AnimalLeftist It isn't. PRCA Rules and Guidelines state that it can only be used when a horse or a bull stalls in the chute. You get fined a few thousand dollars for hot shotting them when they don't stall. You can also only use it on the hip or shoulder area.

@AnimalLeftist Like I said, colts are skiddish, so yes, occasionally they will rear up or kick in the chutes. The horses in my sport are well taken care of, and become famous. Grated Coconut, a famous Calgary Bucking horses had a fucking gold plated halter they made for it and led her around with. She just sits on a pasture and eats now, and they're still breeding colts out of her. She's treated like royalty.

@AnimalLeftist I've only had one concussion, and my brain still operates at 100% capacity. I'll be fine. We don't torment these horses. Why the hell would I want to? When I'm getting on, I want a horse to be calm, collected, and at ease with everything. How is that possible if we are tormenting them? Once that gate opens, the horse knows its job, and he/she does it and everyone goes along their merry way.

@AnimalLeftist Yes, these horses are domesticated, but they are far from being broke and tame. Very few of these horses are broken in or tamed. I'd love to see you try and put a halter on most bucking horses around here. They'd jump and kick at you as soon as you got within 3 feet of them. If you were out in a field, they'd probably just run from you. They aren't tame at all. They act just like wild horses do.
@thegreatnoldini

@xxibitsuxx Actually, most shark videos are doctored. It's not safe to sit there and excite a horse in the chute while you're waiting to get on. They're skiddish animals, and you don't want them flipping over in the chute on you because they get too excited. The animals only get the hot shot when an animal has stalled in the chute. THESE ARE THE RULES. You get fined if they are used otherwise.

@thegreatnoldini
@thegreatnoldini 13 жыл бұрын
@AnimalLeftist Well the reason rodeo exists is because we don't think that these buckers are crap horses. We give them a life they enjoy and a chance to do what they instinctively want to do. The horses are just fine, and they aren't tormented. We all respect these animals because it's how we make our living. If a horse isn't treated well, it doesn't perform well. That's simple logic. It's in our best interests to make sure these animals are well taken care of.
@thegreatnoldini
@thegreatnoldini 13 жыл бұрын
@AnimalLeftist I put other places because there wasn't enough room to type. Yes, some go off to slaughter if they don't buck that well. That's usually where they would go even if they weren't put in rodeos. People don't want to deal with horses that are just going to buck all of the time. However, some bucking horses actually end up making really good pick up horses, cutting horses, or even barrel racing horses sometimes. I've seen it all before.

@AnimalLeftist I want it for myself, and for the horse. I don't like being around scared horses, and when a horse is scared, I do my best to calm it down in the chute. I have never tormented a horse, and I will never be guilty of doing such a thing. Quit assuming things, and go back to eating your vegetables. Leave us alone and let us live the way we want to, and we'll leave you alone.

@AnimalLeftist Yes doctored. SHARK can show a video of a nasty looking crash, and show a horse falling down, and then they cut it off. They forget to show the part where the horse gets up and walks away just fine and like nothing ever happened at all. I was at a few of the rodeos SHARK has recorded and none of those "disasters" even happened. The crashes were bad looking, but the horses were fine. Very rarely do horses ever get injured or die in rodeos. Stawberry Fudge was one of those though.

@AnimalLeftist A horse that is tormented is not going to do any job, period. A tormented horse wouldn't even let people near it. These bucking horses typically don't mind having people around them in a chute at all, unless they're colts, and they all get used to it. If they didn't like what they do, they'd be gone, because we have no use for a horse that doesn't want to do its job.

This is to Keegan, you need to educate yourself, Most rodeo's pride themselves on the care of there stock and if they didn't care or were abused the animals won't preform. Also it is very natural for a horse to open his mouth during bucking its called Belorring,. Horse do it in the wild when they are getting away from another stallion or a mare will buck and do it when she does not want to be bred. For the record, you should check your facts. The horses are cross bred with percherons, so they are big boned and very tough animals. Also, the PRCA releases an injury report after every rodeo. Also, those animals are athletes. They are well-bred, well cared for, and treated well. I have yet to see a rodeo animal that is skin and bones, or is timid and scarred from abuse. It clearly sounds to me like you don't know anything about the sport of bronc riding at all, especially regarding the BASIC EQUIPMENT used in rodeos. You need to realize that all spurs actually do serve a purpose whether they are rodeo spurs or even everyday riding spurs. In regards to both bareback and saddle bronc spurs, they help the rider gain better contact with the animal and they provide some grip for the rider. Many bucking horses actually buck harder and perform better when riders use spurs. The rowels on bronc riding spurs are round, dull, and allow for a faster movement from rigging/saddle to front of shoulder. They are not designed to hurt the animal nor do they. They are designed to help the rider’s feet move faster, create closer contact, and help the animal perform to the best of their ability.
@cowgirlup397

@rockhoppin ALSO!!! I have yet to meet a man strong enough to force one of the animals to do anything. If you haven't noticed, they are a helluva lot bigger and stronger than humans. @AnimalLeftist Do your equine anatomy homework. A horse is anatomically incapable of breathing through its mouth. It can breathe only through its nostrils. If the nostrils close, such as may happen after a rattlesnake bite, the horse may suffocate without immediate human intervention. The idea that a bronc "gapes" for breath is, sorry, just plain unrealistic and silly.

Ignorance is rampant in the rodeo industry, so thanks for continually proving my point for me :) Horses that bawl aren't enjoying themselves. They are trying hard to remove the flank, not the contestant. Broncs continue bucking until the flank is removed. (Just so you know.)

An abused animal would be severly aggressive, or extrememly scared. I have worked with horses and other farm animals my entire life. I train horses... I KNOW what an abused animal looks like and acts like. I have yet to go to a rodeo where I see an animal who shows even the slightest sign of being abused.
