I definitely understand making these for a budget rope but honestly the ropeman 1 is worth the $$ . Quick easy one handed function and is 100% safe.

I have modified my Lineman’s rope and tether based on your videos. I ordered additional rope and Other cords for my new ones. Replacing a simple tie with Fisherman’s knots and stopper knots for Prussic is much safer. I found the other safety issues that you addressed were very helpful. A back up Prussic after Ropeman is also a great safety. This has been very helpful getting my 70 year old butt up and into saddle hunting. The only part waiting is the new saddle being made in Navvoo, Alabama. Thank you again. Thank you very much.

After dealing with the rappel line getting hung up on branches or rough bark when using a carabiner w retrieval cord, I switched to the JRB Remote Release knot. It's awesome.

Really great summary video series. Your pace of teaching including repetition of critical steps in knot making hit the mark perfectly in my opinion. The use of high contrast background and not teaching outdoors the first time were great choices. This is by far the most comprehensive set of videos for saddle hunting/rappelling ropes I have found.

I wish i would have known about the schwabish hitch when i started saddle hunting. I like it way better than a prussic and might replace both my ropeman 1's.

On the rappel, why not just put your ATC below your swabish on a separate biner and rappel like that. Hold your tag end with your right hand and release your swabish with your left? Same deal, if something goes wrong just let go of your swabish and descent stops. Never need the linemans belt on the descent and less to move around.

So how do you get your rappel rope down? Shake the rope to loosen it?
@DoItThenOutdoors
@DoItThenOutdoors 2 жыл бұрын
That is one method if the tree doesn’t have limbs but we just tie the upper end of our bow rope to the quick link of repel rope. Once you repel down, untie bow from drop line then pull the drop line to get the repel rope to come down. Hope that helps and thanks for watching

Can you tell me where you got the straps that feed over your shoulders and attach to you saddle?

Instead of using the Celtic knot to keep your tether around the tree you can just simply wrap your tag end of rope and prusik TWICE through the loop on the end of your rope that goes around the tree. Clear as mud?

Can you tie a running bowline, or maybe a Swedish butterfly? Celtic button what is that?

I want to descend down from my setup and get away from mechanical devices. Will your system work for that purpose? I have a 13mm line that my buddy gave me brand new and want to utilize that instead of buying more due to funds. Yes it is climbing rope.

Great series of videos. Very helpful. Thank you for putting the time into them. Question, what do you use to wrap your biners with? I notice you have them wrapped but it looks like the loop of loop and hook material (velcro)??

What carabiners do I need? Ugghh. I bought 2 madrock biners and a kong ergo and my tethrd linemans cane with a big ass one. I was going to use the ergo as my tether tree connect but think that's unsafe. Was going to get a delta link triangle for that and use the ergo as my bridge biner? Dunno if a safegaurd will work with the ergo or if the ergo is even shaped properly to use on my bridge

I usually buy my carabiners from Amazon and make sure they’re climbing rated. I like the auto locking ones. Other than that I just use the ones that I originally got from tethrd www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B005GQ11W4?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title

Why not ditch the tether altogether and let the main do double duty. Just gather up enough to keep the tag end up from the base of the tree.

There are MANY Oval carabiners types that you have at the scaffold knot. A specific description would help. I.E. like X mm. I bought a Petzl 7 mm Oval carabiner for my rappelling rope connection and although it's 25 kN & 10kN (side load), I think it's too small in diameter for the good of the rope. So many KZbinrs show and name like a Delta Link.... WELL, THERE ARE MANY SIZES and for some reason, no one ever gets specific about which item number or X mm or whatever. DEEEEETAILS are very helpful. Thanks.
