On one hand, it breaks my heart this song (or Sadistik in general) isn't getting millions of plays. On the other, how could he? His music is too profound to be appreciated on a mainstream level. People that feel, people that seek more, people that understand the messed up world we live and have the intelligence (and in turn, often extreme sadness) to see it as such, we are few and far between.

Everybody does. The only person i know who listens to Sadistik without looking up lyrics on Genius or AZ, is Cody Foster, and maybe Eyedea did that too. I would not be shocked if MacLethal gets it straight.. i often interpret lines instead of the whole song, Take for instance Orange, off the Ultraviolet album.. my favorite Song of his but i cant grasp the full meaning yet.

It's nice to appreciate sadistik through the years as I grow and see the growth in him. I had my own miseries in the spring. When I broke up in the spring amidst all of the pandemic nonsense I couldn’t listen to this song. I had physical convulsions and pain listening to this. I knew that we were breaking up. And that feeling when you feel the one you love “drifting in the distance”, “the mystery dissipating”, it’s just heart clutching. I couldn’t eat for a week, cried pretty much a week straight, didn’t sleep, lost 10 pounds. Now I can listen to this with immense gratitude. It’s beyond expression how much this helps. And the connection sadistik shares with many of us is what life is about.

I'm on the opposite side of the spectrum, I think his albums are getting worse and worse. You can definitely argue FFMF is better than TBA but nothing hes put out since those two albums has come anywhere close. I will say I do prefer Altars to Ultraviolet but still both were weak compared to his earlier work

@@richbourassa9681 Obviously it's all subjective, but you've gotta at least respect that he's definitely made a concerted effort to follow his artistic intuition; his albums since FFMF have all sounded wildly different. I know Cody hates being put into a box, so he's probably happy in some ways that you haven't liked his most recent stuff. If it weren't polarizing, it'd probably be too safe. If he'd dropped four more albums that sounded like TBA, it would appease a certain niche, but then you'd get a lot of people asking why he hasn't experimented or "grown" beyond a very specific sound. Based off just this single song and a few snippets he's played during his livestreams, HG sounds familiar -- yet still uniquely different. I'm sorry you haven't felt his newer stuff, but it's cool you still stick around and give it an honest listen.

I like how his style has always morphed. I'm always hyped for a Sadistik album because I know what I'm getting as an experience even though I don't know what I'm getting content-wise, which isn't necessarily true for most artists. Sadistik is consistently solid at crafting an emotionally involving experience, it's crazy how good he is at it. However, as a published poet, and someone generally obsessed with language, ever since Ultraviolet, he's been caught in this common pitfall I see a lot of poets and lyricists get trapped in during their writing development; where the focus of the words they craft becomes more about playing with sounds and neglecting meaning and context. Sadistik's use of homophonic language (in this very song for example, he says hollow days and holidays) has skyrocketed post-Ultraviolet and the comprehension of his lyrics has suffered for it because of how frequently he seeks these euphonic tools out, obscuring communication of his concepts sometimes. I still listen to his stuff regardless, but that's one thing to chew on when weighing his lyrics. It's always cool to track the evolution of a writing style and I'm hoping to see a swing back towards comprehension. Flowers For My Father was really the apex of him combining euphony of words with communicative clarity. That being said, Ultraviolet and The Art of Dying are my favorite albums, so in the end it's all subjective.
