I love when you do these types of streams Brad! Thank you! I know it’s hard during the summer months not only for content creators but for those of us in the northeastern states as you said. Add personal things and it’s tough! I love that you are a novBS kind of guy! That’s why I’m a patreon and value your thoughts!

The killer app for AR is just letting people meet together in the same space. Especially during the pandemic when everyone was stuck at home, the ability to teleport to your friend's house and just hang out would be really important.

I don't usually watch streams (other than ZBrush and Unreal Engine), and this is the first stream outside that group that I totally enjoyed, just like the rest of your videos. Keep it up ;) Bottom line, wait for the Deckard and you won't regret it, don't rush to getting a new VR before you see what Valve has to offer which is likely to be in the BS Beyond range or slightly more but it's likely to have inside-out tracking and foveated rendering. At least that's what I am going to do

Sad that "Scripted and linear" are bad things when it comes to games according to some people. I love a tailored and well designed experience even if its just magical the first time through. But I guess these kid's grew up on the Copy pasted mission fest that is AAA open world games. 150hrs of Algorithm based grind is what they want apparently. Alyx was a tech demo is a micro-brain from chat take 🙄

Hey Brad, you probably already know about this stuff but the flip up design is what the og WMR headsets used. There is a ton of DIY stuff for those designs that you could build off of. For instance, a rubber band mod to hold the headset to your face and off your face.

I'm a simmer so the Bigscreen Beyond just isn't good enough for my use case. On my Aero, I have eye-tracking and DFR, auto-IPD plus a small cooling fan for comfort. Also 90hz is supported at max resolution, and you can't say that for BSB. Right now, my next headset might be the Somnium VR1. I wish Valve would at least give us a timeline because Deckard is smoke and mirrors until then.

Standalone VR is to PCVR what mobile gaming is to PC gaming. Pretty simple, really. There's a place for both, but the former will never match the latter.
@Samsaraslug
@Samsaraslug Жыл бұрын
eh...the gameplay is mostly the same since the games are mostly being developed for both. So now the biggest difference for most releases is just the graphics Games like half life alyx and sprint vector are the exception sadly
@InvidiousIgnoramus
@InvidiousIgnoramus Жыл бұрын
if someone makes a standalone headset that uses controllers like the valve knuckles I'll probably not bother with a dedicated PCVR rig. many of these standalones can function with PCVR as well, so it's not that big of an issue, just more weight on the face.
@StubbyPhillips
@StubbyPhillips Жыл бұрын
@@InvidiousIgnoramus The real problem is that since most things will be "dumbed-down" (graphically) to run on standalone the PCVR versions aren't likely to take *FULL* advantage of the additional GPU power, CPU power, storage space and memory the PC _could_ provide. This leads people who don't really think things through to believe that the difference between what standalone and PCVR can do is much less than it actually is. The difference is, in fact, *ENORMOUS.*
@noergelstein
@noergelstein Жыл бұрын
@HaroldSchmaroldExactly, modern smartphones are very powerful, they aren’t really limited by processing power. They are limited by small screen sizes that is also partly blocked by the input and the input itself. For VR, there is no difference between PCVR and mobile input and output (apart from graphical fidelity).
@StubbyPhillips
@StubbyPhillips Жыл бұрын
@@noergelstein It _IS_ the graphical fidelity that I describe as "dumbed down" and it _literally_ makes a world of difference (to me at least.) If having MUCH larger worlds composed of WAY more meshes with much higher complexity, higher resolution textures (and more of them), WAY more sophisticated materials and lighting, higher resolution shadows and reflections, advanced post-processing and effects, better physics and on and on and on (essentially way more and much better everything) just isn't important to you then by all means, have fun. Speaking only for myself, however, I'm just not interested in "Lo-Fi" standalone VR. I'm not saying there isn't a place for it, there absolutely IS, just as there's a place for mobile games. And _yes_ "the gameplay is what matters." I get that, but assuming we have that in both cases, I'll take mine with better looking, *_more immersive_* graphics. In some cases the standalone version _will_ look better than the PC version because it was designed and optimized for the limitations of standalone. *THAT IS THE HEART OF THE PROBLEM!* What we get for PC is hobbled by the need to make it run on standalone. No dev is going to go through the effort to make two completely different versions. They're going to build for the lowest common denominator then maybe add a few little extras for the PC version. If it had been designed and optimized only for PC in the first place it _could_ be WAY better.

Maybe getting a series x/ps5 and a banger 4k tv is the better choice from a gamers perspective. I think itll be another decade before it offers a no doubt crazy insane, compelling experience good though it is already.

Agree! Too much focus on "it needs to be cheap and basic" for the average joe. They need to focus on the higher end some still - they are the people that uses it the most - they are the people that talk about the project and how it can be used - they are the ones that bring their friends over when they can afford it. They are the ones that they should look at it to some level first - get VR into a good enough state - and the rest will come naturally. Like why is there no software for VR yet? Thats the craziest thing if you ask me! Games are amazing, but without basic usage outside of that - thats all it will ever be and while it can work (steam), you need more than that to really draw in people at a platform level. For the hype - there are a lot that happen between. I think the problem is there just never a studdy stream of new things coming even though this is a wild west hardware and software. Software doesnt get as talk about it - over time (maybe a week or two), but after that people will either want to talk about something else or compare. Once there has been nothing new over a month - the "Hype" dies after that as there really isnt much more to talk about. At least of what I notice. Long life cycles + cancel or delay projects + two side of the same VR platform (PC, Stand Alone) also doesnt help when they focus on just one of those too. Meta being Stand Alone heavy kills off a lot of why should I use these headsets? I mainly work on PC - why do I need to choose between all three? Just some basic limitations I see here and there when working with VR in general thats kind of annoying. PCVR is pretty much kill off at this point - making the top end games kind of... well.. dumb to watch out for when they will be cap visually later to match the bandwidth of the USB cable. Q3 is going to be more of the same from Meta - they havent learn their lession and will continue down the dumb path they been doing for a while. Granted, they did remove a lot jobs so there is a lot of fat trim now, but I really dont think it will matter. Meta CTO and STO really dont understand the community and what they want. They certainly have to back track in their comments because they keep repeating the same stuff no one wants to hear making it pretty obs we're in for more hurt later down the road. One thing I would love VR to do is make use of my PC - let it render some applications and then bring them over to my headset. No, not like stream my desktop, but just some applications that can work on my headset anywhere on the go with me. For example, take outlook. Sure sure it can be added as an app, but my point is more bare bones of what if that app wasnt an app yet, but I could have it stream over and act like it was part of the headset? Or add a sim card to my headset and next thing you can get support for on the go VR commutation? Like messages or email or even better yet or even making a cell phone call over to the love ones to check in on them? Add face time application for both platforms that can "see" when there is a call coming in and allow you chat with that same person too. Problem is you need the hardware there for sure or the ability to upgrade the headset - and I think that also missing from a ground setup. They made it soo cheap they are selling you a single desing box unit. There is no upgrade path for the headset. Like what if they did remove the CPU/GPU and put it into its own box instead with the battery? At that stage you could keep the same VR headset - but upgrade the core - or vis ver. Other wise, I still think Meta wasting time and money on projects that are not even close to being real. They need to focus on getting people into VR - but more importantly, continue to use VR long term over time. Making it easy to get in and out of VR, working with VR and the real space, and using it on the go. Other wise, people will just simply pick it up .. use it a few times.. and then it just collects dust. Comfort needs to still be a thing and not always an optional choice. Top straps need to be there - not an option upgrade that adds it in. They have the information on all this stuff - its not like its new information. They also need to work with the community - not try to scare them away like tehy did you with the leak information. They need to embrace the talks and communication people have with this information on hand not be scared away from it. It really just sounds like one guy problem that is causing a bunch of fuss and I think its BallzsWard. One last thing is the design and shape of beyound though is also a killer for many. I understand you can get custom lenses if you wear glasses - but thats really not going to work for the many out there - more so I think its really draw back of their design. While it might work for you, in the future it might not as your eyes get weaker/older. That means you have to keep spending on customer lenses you might not be able to reuse for another headset or as thing change for FoV and other effects. Same thing for adjusting the IDP between many different users and selling to a customer base that does tend to scale between the two. Optical tracking is also the future - not LH tracking. Room limits wont work in the future too ... as things need to still continue on the path of being able to use VR "anywhere" as the technology moves forward. Being limited to LH tracking is a real kicker as its limited to a single room (for the setup) and/or require more hardware - but still be limited to the space you are in. Let alone for the price of the hardware doesnt make it cheap to add on with. Works for the people that already have it of course, but nothing a new user will want to spend money on. or simiply skip over it as again other headset on the market does exist that doesnt have that requirement anymore. Sorry I wrote a lot :D Wish I was there to talk with you:)

on the hoping quest 3 revives channels, the new youtube forced ad policy will kill any of that potential momentum. I would suggest they demonitize themselves (for offical youtube ads) and stick to targeted sponsorship (ad reads) supposedly the comedy podcasters say it makes them much more, ads are better targeted (more conversion) and are skipable to not alienate your viewers. with youtube blocking ad blockers I'l only watch live and police shooting videos that are already demonitized

Virtual Reality Oasis is a more influential reviewer so if it bombed because of anyone it was him. I hope Meta learns to listen to us as it was obvious to many here that it would fail miserably.
