Moore's Law may be slowing down, but VR still enjoys every advantage from Wright's Law, which says that the cost to make something goes down a constant percentage for every cumulative doubling in units produced of that thing.

Ughh... I'm STILL waiting for deckard... This is tiresome. I refuse to interface with facebook in VR, so quest is out. I strongly considered the big-screen beyond, but having to buy a set of trackers AND controllers on top of that... the price tag was just too much for a cobbled together experience. I REALLY hope that Deckard, when it releases was worth the wait. I've only ever owned the Oculus Rift CV1 which I haven't used in years... but I keep waiting to get back in to VR, but nothing has sufficiently wowed me. Like there hasn't been a reasonably priced headset where VR youtubers can state unequivocably, THIS is the THE headset. I'm fine with dropping some cash, but every time I compare quality with price-point, I keep coming back to Varjo, and I'm just not willing to drop that kind of money on what might end up, just sitting in a corner.
@SargonDragon23 күн бұрын
I am becoming more and mre convinced that the Deckard is not coming anymore. I believe it's a real project, but the time that it needed to release has already come and past. We're now in a time where the Deckard would be releasing into a market where it would be increasingly irrelevant with each day that passes.

VR technology will get better slowly over time but we won't reach the level of AVP in a Quest headset for a while but it will eventually... Honestly I can't justify spending AVP money on VR but $650 for my 512 GB Quest 3 is reasonable to me... I love mine 😂
@dfcx125 күн бұрын
AVP money could seem justifiable to me if it did everything I wanted from VR, but it's not even close. I want a real upgrade to Index + FBT. I don't need to replace flat screens, those work well enough without VR already.

The problem with Meta is Meta. I will not buy any headset they make. The software still needs work, if the mirroring crashes in less than 3 hours. I appreciate the long stream for the lack of videos. Just keep doing the live streams as they are working best for you. Your Live streams are more informative for me than your canned vids that you do many takes on.

For gaming in particular: I would have considered the Quest 3 for purchase if the displays were at least 30ppd and they provided FoV and a Display Port cable to the GPU and not a compressed USBC Cable.

Great show. Achieving a laptop or display replacement can’t be done through "gaming”. Without addressing the significant involvement of everyday businesses and enterprise, this transition is unlikely. The pundits said AVP needed developers and a “killer app” to succeed, but Apple understands that getting the entire business community to take XR seriously is crucial. Enterprises could never base their future on the Quest 3. Apple aims to show companies like Visa, Amazon, Universal, JP Morgan, DSW, Walmart.., that VR is the future. As more corporations introduce apps, more consumers will invest in VR. I believe the proliferation of corporate apps in the AVP will be the best key to determining XR’s future.
@dfcx125 күн бұрын
Agreed, Apple is ruining VR.
@sharonb.912825 күн бұрын
@@dfcx1 VR will ALWAYS have gaming. Apple will make the dying VR gaming industry robust again simply by expanding VR, making it common technology and cheaper…eventually. Dry your crocodile tears.

The Strix Halo box rendering capability should be equivalent to today $500 PCs. Like an efficient/modern PS5, hopefully with an interesting design, rugged and mobile with optimal wireless for dual link (uplink + streaming to the terminal HMD/handheld/whatever).

@SargonDragon23 күн бұрын
You have a habit of starting to read a question or comment out loud, saying only the first 2-3 words of it, and then immediately launching into answering. This can leave your audience without context about what you're responding to, especially if they're just listening to your stream in the background. Heck, even with the live chat up you sometimes offer so little context that it can be difficult to figure out which comment you're responding to.

The problem with the quest pro beside the underpowered chip, the os software and the passthrough were a joke. I can't justify having it as a laptop replacement when the passthrough doesn't make me feel still connected to the real world ( let us not talk about their OS ). The quest 3 is the first usable device from meta for me (when hooked to my pc). The rest of meta devices (q2 q pro) are once a month gathering tech demo thing. Super interested in an improved quest 3, just a better passthrough and even a 10% resolution pump would be enough for me to throw money at them.
@dtz100026 күн бұрын
It would have been a success if the resolution was higher than a Quest 2. Instead it was lower resolution than a Quest 2 which astounds me why they would do that.

brad straight up - where is vr gaming right now? dying? dead? growing? experimental? where is xr headed?
@djp123427 күн бұрын
He said it’s dead. I think the best VR games we have right now are VR mods of AAA flatscreen games (UEVR, Luke Ross).
@SargonDragon23 күн бұрын
Brad isn't a VR gamer. He says this himself. He's not interested, and he's moved to a VR headset which barely supports any VR gaming. He's not really the best source for an assessment on the state of VR gaming.

what's odd about all the speculation about x elite gaming is people don't mention at all that Snapdragon SoC's support DirectX and vulkan unlike Apple. So that's less emulation/translation problems for gaming on ARM.
@rohithmekala260827 күн бұрын
Why would Apple ever support DirectX? Vulkan I get since it’s open source.
@dfcx125 күн бұрын
It's not less emulation/translation when you just use the native Metal instead.

I'm using the psvr2 almost daily and for me there enough good games at the moment. Honestly I do it even prefer over the quest 3 and pcvr. But since the astrobot thing, I do also not believe that Sony will invest in developing VR games in the near feature.
@Ryan-tn4gk22 күн бұрын
Dang. I'm the opposite. I have a quest 2 for pcvr and bought a psvr 2. Since I bought the psvr 2, I've barely used it. I just go back to my quest. The comfort of the psvr is terrible for me. Even after buying the globular cluster mod, I had so much pressure on my forehead. It really made me appreciate my quest 2
@lowrider275622 күн бұрын
@Ryan-tn4gk ok that‘s funny. I had to buy three headstraps for the quest 2 until it was comfortable.

Hi Brad, I think you ought to do your Vision Pro review. Your main concern is that you are such a weird use case that you are afraid your enthusiasm for this device may trick many normal users into buying a device that will not fit them. However, I think you are overstating how "weird" you are. Yes, getting a headless MacBook for the Vision Pro is indeed extremely rare and no one else should do it. But rocking with spatial windows (overlays as you may often them) with the Vision Pro is not weird, and not as rare as you think. I use my Vision Pro everyday for the exact same reason. Judging from social medias, I think this is one of the two major Vision Pro usage patterns that have emerged among Vision Pro users that stick. The other is for media consumption. Another reason that I think you should make your review is that we ought to show the world the values of spatial computing in practice. Many folks, including a large number of VR players, are knee-jerk antagonized against the Vision Pro due to it being too expensive, being from Apple, and perhaps just requiring a HMD. They also then tend to carry this attitude toward XR in general, dismissing such HMDs being "an iPad on your face", "just for watching movies", "just a 2nd monitor", and etc. I am not sure what another in-depth review may accomplish, but I hate to see such wide-spread and ignorant perceptions hurting the prospects of spatial computing. Vision Pro already does not any killer app, the platform itself is the killer feature already. Your review should just faithfully show how you use the device and your experiences. Vision Pro, and actually the XR industry, does not currently have a overhyped problem. On the contrary, they currently have to fight against negative perceptions.
