This is really contrary to many of the other reviews and comments regarding the QPro I have seen. Many people say it's incredibly clear and they are able to work in VR for hours on end. The main reason I am considering a QPro is for desk / monitor replacement work purposes. I really don't know what to think now because I hold Bradley's opinion pretty highly.

@@gamergeekenator111 No, I haven't. I was just using my Quest 2 yesterday with Virtual Desktop in one of their included 'gamer room' environments though and it felt like the virtual monitor they have set up in that environment was perfectly sized and spaced from my viewpoint. I could read everything I was doing very clearly, even with the Quest 2. If it's "almost there" with the Quest 2, surely it must be ok with the QPro? I'm gonna go to my local Best Buy to see if they have a station set up with the Quest Pro. Multiple people online have said Best Buy has a demo station set up, though I've never heard of that or seen it locally, so I'm not sure.

Same, I don't miss the Q1's screendoor though. I revisited Rez Infinate recently for the first time since I played it on PSVR and it looked like shtako. I couldn't figure out why for a while, afterall I'm playing it on a higher res headset with a powerful PC so It at the very least should look just as good as the PS4 version if not better... then I remembered that the Q2 uses LCD not OLED, for this reason I havn't bothered with Tetris Effect either since it shares the same visual style
@adr2t

@@Clara_Page Just to be clear - Screendoor isnt a OLED issue for say - you can have that with any panel that has a wide pitch per pixel. CV1 didnt use full RGB either - it used half sub pixel design. Meaning it had 1/3 less subpixels that a full RGB OLED could've had. All to say how awesome OLED was even back then.

I for one do NOT miss the OLEDs... I'll take density over contrast any day, sorry, I don't feel like simulating the experience of standing 5 inches from a screen door. Especially one specific part of a specific song where you need to cross your wrists while swinging really fast. Since there is so much exclusion going on no other controllers were able to track that accurately, but the pro controllers did it flawlessly. I beat my PR the first time using them.

@@Ballissle Are you aware that holding the controllers that way (with fingers over the rings) affects your tracking quality? The way the headset tracks the controllers is by seeing the LEDs that are spread along the ring. If you are putting fingers over the rings you are blocking some of those LEDS and making your tracking quality worse. You should consider getting straps (grips) instead of holding the controllers in ways they are not meant to be held.

@@mranon123 I never said I hold over the rings. Yes I know that lol. I hold in quest claw grip style. @@Ballissle Clear. Some custom grips allow you to not have to grip at all and can make controllers just kind of "glued" to your hands, maybe that could work for you? Quick note regarding the eye-tracking: For some bizarre reason, if you look down in any way, the meta avatars will bring the upper eyelid down with your view. I have absolutely no idea why this is the case as my various experiments with it seem to indicate it's perfectly capable of tracking your actual eyelids and usually does, but in some weird fit of madness they've added this unwanted override behavior for the upper lids. Even if you have your eyes open as wide as possible, the minute your irises starting going even close to below center you'll see the lid come with it. Absolutely baffling and I really hope they take this 'feature' out.

I still really wish they had blended the controllers and hand tracking to work together, and added a strap. It wouldn't have to be resource-intensive tracking your whole field of view for your hands, the controllers could tell the headset where to look for a smaller tracking box, giving finer finger tracking range & subtlety than 'I can feel you touching the trigger button' being sent from the controllers Edit: It bugs me seeing my ghost hands overlaid across my real hands in Passthrough home environment, my real fingers right there, but the ghost hands only reacting to direct touches to buttons instead of following my digits.

Thanks tremendously for this review Brad! You answered some of the main questions I haven't seen addressed in other Quest Pro reviews like the quality of eye tracking in PC VR and the battery life when connected through PC along with brief mentions of accessory mods. For the features I'd definitely consider this at somewhere like a $800-$1000 price, but I think I'll stick around with the Quest 2 a bit longer and probably get the Pro controllers at some point in the future. With all the comfort and accessory mods I've made with the Quest 2 I see no need to invest in a $1500 headset when a Quest 3 and potentially the Valve headset are on the horizon.
@badmoose01

I think $800 valuation is lowballing it a tad. The controllers cost $300 and that that’ll make the headset cost $500, the same price as a quest 2. Something definitely doesn’t add up.

With the added features of face and eye-tracking the current price of the Quest Pro is really tempting, but the conflicting issue is that the Quest 3 is right around the corner. @@SadlyItsBradley About the G2 - as a longtime WMR user i'm very curious if you've given the platform a more serious look because it's something almost everyone ignores and heads straight for SteamVR. For a product that came out around the same time as the original Vive it features some concepts that are closer to the "monitor replacement" the Quest Pro tries to sell itself as. All the native Windows 2D applications are accessible not just in the Cliffhouse home but in-game too, and regular mouse input works surprisingly well with the way the pointer is projected from your view in 3D, something SteamVR still lacks. Microsoft had worked with Logitech on a special WMR-enabled keyboard with tracking LEDs on it that would've allowed you to have passthrough hands overlayed ontop of a virtual 1:1 tracked copy of the physical keyboard as you type on it. In typical Microsoft fashion WMR was abandoned before realizing it's true potential as a VR productivity tool and was simply ignored in favor of their dead-end hololens project.

Good review. But I must say as an Quest Pro owner (being an avid VR user since Oculus DK2 in 2017 and owning 9 headsets until now) that all this is true… but it is a TECHNICAL review. I mean, Quest Pro is a really weird device because of its own conception. It seems Meta itself doesn't have very clear how to sell this thing. It it really a Quest 2 Pro. A high end Quest 2 with some experimental features. And that's great… but the hardware is expensive so they can't sell it that way, hence the "productivity" part. So most reviewers, obviously, analyze that and they conclude it is not a monitor replacement. And that's true. It is not, but it is also true that you CAN use it for that if you need to. I use it for software development with my Macs when I don't have access to my 49" ultrawide monitor and, of course, it is not comparable, but using 3 big virtual displays it is undeniable better than programming with a single tiny 13" Macbook pro display. So yeah, all the technical mumbo jumbo is true, BUT… if you ignore the price (and that's a lot to ignore), and compares with other devices... it is just GREAT. The resolution is the same as Quest 2, sure, but since there are two separate displays and real IPD adjustments, there are more perceived resolution in your FOV and that is very noticiable for me, so I see more resolution than Quest 2. The color, contrast and clarity of the lens are amazing. Text looks crisp and readable even at small size (I don't agree with that part of the review). It is the most comfortable headset I've used… but ONLY if you add some headband to balance the weight, otherwise I agree is quite uncomfortable. Controllers are great, passthrough is quite better than Quest 2 and they have improved a lot in the last v47 update, PC streaming is just perfect, way better than Quest 2, and at the end of the day, you still have a Quest, so you have access to the Meta store and ecosystem… what can I say?, it is the most enjoyable headset I've had and the best buy I've done in a long time. Can I recommend it to everyone? With this price… absolutely not. But I really think it's the best headset you can buy. P.S. My first impressions were quite bad too, but I changed my mind as I used it. I've seen the same behavior in many KZbin reviewers. Bad reviews at first… to end using it as main device and enjoying it a lot. Still, that price makes it hard to recommend unless for VR enthusiasts.

Great review! and agree with all of the points you made. I use mine exclusively for pc vr and find comfort to be a big issue. If you tighten the strap to keep the headset stable, it's too easy to overtighten and it feels like your head is in a vice that you really don't notice until the headache kicks in. Another let down is the d-link/air-link thingy and wi-fi, it's almost impossible to get it to work and the stand alone rendering/processing sucks. Screen door effect is just as noticeable as the index, maybe amplified because of the better lenses? This should have been the quest 3 pro and the high-end business version should have had some more time in the oven. Valve where are you????

I really hope those things are as great as people describe them. I really, really don't want to install base stations on my walls while at the same time would love to be able to have higher swing range and do some shenenigans with the controllers. The fact that they seem to track even better is a cherry on top. Can't wait to get those and use them with Q2. I was beginning to think that Qpro and Pico 4 releases brought more fake hype than actual improvement but those controllers just seem to actually be that big upgrade in VR experience. I would be shocked if those werent supported by Q3 as well, so it's also a great investment, despite them being "a little" pricy. Late edit, I forgot to ask... I don't know if you've had a chance to use the Magic Leap 2 yet but I will say that it's the first headset to really be able to do proper AR. It blows the HoloLens and the first Magic Leap out of the water with the new tech they added to make the images actually look opaque. Plus the field of view has been expanded enough to be much more usable. The form factor is much smaller and the device is much lighter this time around though they do have the compute separate from the headset unlike the Quest Pro. Its obviously not a consumer device at like $3.3k but its definitely a lot further ahead than I was expecting.

This is the video I was waiting for. Yeah, the AR is just a first stab, clearly they need to develop it more, so they have to get it out into the wild to find out what their problems are so far. Looks like they won't have face or eye tracking in the Q3, so they will likely lean even more into the AR if that's still in the cards. Pass through works well enough for me, the AR stuff is an all right novelty. But for me the thing that makes it worth while is the optics. Everything I loved about the Quest 2, in crystal clear, wide angled clarity. They should have included a top strap, once I added one side to side off the side straps, all the front pain on my forehead went away. The multi-monitor thing isn't intended to replace actual monitors, but to augment someone's laptop with better monitors. It's certainly better than a small 1080p laptop screen.

When I first tried VR at home with a Quest 2 last year I was hugely disappointed by the low resolution of the so called "4K" display. It looks worse than 1080p on a 27" monitor and I'm used to 4K. It's not a big issue for Gaming because good (PC)VR games are such a great experience but I can't imagine using it as a monitor replacement. Pimax Crystal has 35/42 PPD on 2x 2880x2880 displays. If the Deckard really has 2x 4Kx4K OLEDs VR could finally come close to 60 PPD.

It seemed a bit shallow opinion on Immersed app. Working as a Software Dev in Immersed full day for a couple of weeks in Quest Pro. Feels pretty great, especially with huge ultra wide display setup. Immersed app requires some time to set everything properly for great experience, but when it is done, you’re gold.

Correct. I do not see very many apps or business apps available for it or coming soon. Setting up the Quest Prom it was very much the same as a Quest 2, expected a different process. The headset will replace my Quest 2. I am hoping new firmware updates and apps come out soon . It is a very nice replacement for a quest 2 but you'd have to have deep pockets to buy it for gaming.

I like playing with no side light blockers in room scale casual games because it allows a lot of ventilation for my eyes. The side blockers also put pressure on the sides of my glasses frame which is a little uncomfortable. I’m getting prescription lenses from vr optician though. I’m waiting on those to arrive thru international mail.

How long do you think the Quest 2 will be viable? I stopped using the DK2 about 3 years ago, mostly because my brother gave it to me ages ago. Worked OK for VR with keyboard like VRchat and DCS, but it has been unsupported for ages but still works in Oculus app. Got my Quest 2 this summer and I hope I can keep it for a good few years as well.

I'm using full-sized planar headphones with the Quest Pro, so I can definitely see your complaint about the speakers. Running them on 100% volumes you're really thinning out the soup. However, I think they sound very good at medium to low volume. That's where the bass frequencues get through, very well. And listening to voices on this, watching videos with a lot of commenting they truly start to shine. I could see myself taking discord calls (or phone calls in general for the business-ish use case) very comfortably.

I've tried using Immersed with Quest 2 before and I wasn't be able to work with that text blurriness. With the Pro I work without any problem so I think you should notice a huge improvement. Also, Q2 was quite uncomfortable and hot for me to spend a long time despite of the elite strap and headband but I could spend all day with the Pro (with headband) if the batteries would allow me to do so.

The monitor replacement needs articulated headset that maintains focus and lens positioning with the eye tracking… I’d also say shift as much hardware OFF the headset as possible and have a companion belt/lanyard/clip… keep the headset super super light, as a pair of glasses is essentially the goal here. This might allow more powerful hardware, which leads to the next big ticket item: resolution. We know the screens are not the bottleneck but the silicon, that’s fine. The last thing I’d say it needs to be pragmatic in what it’s competition is: opening a laptop. It takes a few seconds to open my laptop and start typing in a browser… my quest pro requires probably waking up (if it’s charged) maybe redrawing the guardian, and if it’s a software update or login that’s required then we are talking minutes for something that should take seconds. There is some great stuff however… Gravity sketch has become our go-to collaborative tool for designing games… so much easier to literally sketch things out, especially as our team is scattered around the world, but theres something about special memory etc that gravity sketch collabs really gets right

I'm on such an edge right now. I got brand new Quest Pro for $1000, right after price drop. Still have a week to return, and I'm tempted. As we getting closer to Quest 3 especially. I don't mind comfort issues, but battery life, plus no real light blocking plate, especially with glasses just makes me sad, any time in a game I look around and want too look up I see my room pretty much and kicked out of immersion in a split second. Can't seem to find a good cable that would work great, right length, and charge or prolong charge of the set while wired. And yet I just feel like I don't want to give up those controllers that no other set has. Then also giving up playing in a dark room, when my family might be sleeping and I can't just move my whole gaming PC setup anywhere else =) Still trying to justify keep or return and I'm lost still lol =))

Comfort wise... you should not need a topstrap. I used to have the comfort issue you have, but problem was it was too tight. The weight is not supposed to be on your forehead. Make sure its less tight and have the weight spread out over both pads as much as possible. That way I went from it being painful within the 20-30 minutes to being able to use it for several hours without discomfort. Same as with my Quest 2 with the Elite Battery Strap, at first it was very uncomfortable until I figured out how to adjust it correctly.

In order to release eye strain you need to put your virtual monitor 3 meters away from your eyes. I worked that way in Quest 2 for 6 hours without a break doing programming with no issues at all. Though resolution is quite not enough obviously for any text related job comfortably.

I bought a quest pro yesterday and am disappointed to find that the screen is very washed out and dull looking in games. I have the brightness all the way up and playing games like propagation a dark title, it is very hard to see even with a flashlight and brighter menus. Is this due to local dimming not being on? I’ve tried with some other games the same brown haze effect is on the edges of the pancake lenses screen. It is very distracting and if I can’t find a solution then I’ll have to return it.

While I agree that AR may not be great on the device, the pass-through it's self I find very useful. While I am playing poker with people, or drawing, or if for instance I wanted to play 2d games on a screen, much prefer the color pass-through even if it is not great, over the Quest2's and that may not make it worth the $1500 dollars, But I really do not think $1500 dollars is as much as people are making it out to be, when compared to other high end devices. I love the screens the FOV and the openness of the headset, I also have no issues with the comfort really, but I generally do not tighten it down hard when just doing low action type games, and when I am playing games with more action I tend not to play as long. I notice for some people it seems to hurt them, and for others it does not. I think the lesson there is that headsets need to be able to have the strap swappable very easily for after market options, people are just so different, yea you can have a headset that maybe has a system that accounts for everyone, but then it gets bigger and unwieldy.

Good video.. with good explanation of pro & cons.. thx for the details about some of the cam specs. was supprised to hear its packing a 16mpix. RGB cam, as that is the same as Pico4, and the Pico4 passthrough feed does look quite a bit cleaner and sharper and would have guessed the MetaPro was like an 8Mpix RGB sensor.- Were also supprised to see the becnhmark scores for Metapro on Geekbench5 There were around 350 to 400 single score and 950 to 1000 multicore.. that is Quest2 level. and way below other XR2 SoC like Pico4 and HTC Vive Focus3.. that is around 650 to 700 single score and around 1600 to 1650 multicore. Though Pico3Neo/link were even lower then Meta's 2 variants... so Pico realy bumped up the cooling for Pico4 to reach those scores, while being quite silent and comfortable. (check geekbench5 for details) and as far as I recaall the Pico4 does not have DDR5, that is only for Pico4Enterprise and Pico4 Pro) but it is packing UFS3, that is faster then fx UFS2 found in olderheadsets like Q2 and other XR2 Headsets. though compute scores.. are around the same..though not OpenCL score for Meta headsets like Pro and Q2..only Vulkan while both options OpenCL and Vulkan seems for Pico4 and HTC Vive Focus3

12:56 Yes, Horizon workrooms on windows does not support virtual monitors. BUT I found if I plug 3 dummy-display port connectors to my pc They'll show up in horizon workrooms. So workrooms will show all your connected monitors atleast(limited to 3). I have actually tried to work a couple hours in VR with my quest 2. Turns out running after effects and Blender and other demanding apps is too low fidelity, and LATENCY is what is worst. I can work basic photshop and graphic design. But whenever I animate it's not "fast enough" for me.

For me, was just the opposite. I had a lot of eyestrain with Q2 but these lens and IPD adjustments makes me forget I'm wearing a headset. Also, to my own surprise, I ended using it without side blockers. It is surprisingly great using that way. For a more immerse experience, side blockers make its job perfectly as long as you wear the headset as sunglasses, resting on your nose (which you should do, anyway because of comfort and FOV gain)

@@ButtorsGaming Well, Quest Pro is indeed my 9th headset. My previous one was Quest 2 but, please, understand me, I'm not saying that side blockers are good at block light. They aren't. I mean I was surprised to realize that I don't NEED to block the light most of the time.Yes, there are experiences where you want total light blocking for full immersion but I mostly enjoy more having the "full open" setup for using this headset. And I think side blockers, although not ideal, does the job FOR ME when I need more blocking.
