Just play the games fellas. Also, don't commit the sin of pronouncing Atelier with an "R" like I did in the video. I blame the english dubs from the Atelier games for teaching me that pronunciation lol.

@Sadonrii
@Sadonrii 4 жыл бұрын
@@elizabethalexgarcia2783 The Dusk trilogy is the most "serious" in terms of story tone but it still contains the typical Atelier Slice of Life moments. Though it does tone down the Slice of Life aspect, especially compared to Rorona and the rest of the Arland trilogy. Rorona is probably the goofiest entry in the Atelier franchise so it may have gave you that impression.

@@zimon129 idk if you missed it, but you can hold X on an item in ryza 1 to convert it into CC in exchange for disabling it for the rest of combat. I never ran out of CC across my entire playthrough and only came close to doing so in the final boss.
@florianschneider2803
@florianschneider2803 3 жыл бұрын
@Duck Donald Ryza 2s itemsystem has it's own faults. Needing to build up your cc also means no itemuse at the start for a quick battle. Plus more hp-spongy enemies(which makes sense to allow you to build cc) made it feel way more grindy to me. Still liked it but overall i prefer ryza 1s battlesystem. That felt way more tactical for me(looking for the right timewindow to increase tactics level/rescourcemanagement of your limited cc and recharges/personal skills with more specific uses(stun vs dmg/etc.). On a different note: ryza1s design in general was a masterpiece. It was set out to feel like a summervacation with a certainty to end(klaudia leaving etc.) and it did. One does not need to like it, to see how good designed that was. Especially the ending if you consider ryza's main focus/dream in the beginning and where she ends up, while her friends... (cut because of spoilers) So bittersweet and nostalgic. Ryza 2 tries to replicate this but did not hit as hard (for me). Still a good game but after finishing it, i still think ryza should have been a stand alone. Part 2 did not do anything significant enough in my opinion besides giving me more atelier goodness. We will see where gust brings us next. Ryza 3(hopefully focussing on the "endgamearea") or a completly new series and maybe go back to turn based combat and deeper alchemy, at least for a time? Well with the mysterious trilogy coming to switch i will have plenty to shorten the wait. Even tough i didn t care much about sophie(did not finish it) when it released. I will gladly try again. Maybe i judged it too harsh following directly after the dusk trilogy. That way it had quite the big footsteps to fill. Plus firis seems quite my kind of game. (I miss time limits)

Trivia about Atelier Escha & Logy that nobody ever seems to notice. The Japanese particle equivalent to "and" is "to." So Escha & Logy = Escha to Logy. Eschatology is the study of end times... and the Dusk series is set in a world which seems to be fading towards its doom.

Popping over here since Atelier Sophie 2 just got announced 4 hours ago. :eyes: Ryza was my first entry into this playing series. I actually stumbled across the artbook while on the internet and the whole aesthetics intrigued me. So I looked into it more and it seemed like my type of game. Gathering, hoarding, crafting, some battles, and an interesting story. Needless to say, I 100%'d the first Ryza game LOL. The whole time constraint thing that the older games had did deter me from trying it but after completing Ryza through and through, to the point of buying Ryza 2. It makes me more confident to trying out other Atelier games. Hell, I'm buying Sophie so I can be prepared for Sophie 2. ^^ The biggest thing I had with Ryza was that I hoarded too much stuff and I'd spend ingame days getting lost in the craft. Thankfully there's a desynthesis system that helped get with of storage bloat, only for a short while before getting sidetracked again.. The whole real-time battle system did trip me up but as you play more, you get used to the rhythm so where you can easily layer combos of item buffs and special attacks. Overall, Ryza is 100% a good entry into the series and would recommend it for people who like perfecting their craft to the point of maxing out their gear/ items. (I was actually introduced to Escha and Logy because I watched the anime while it was airing at the time. The end cards per episode really made me love the whole setting and style. And then I was surprised when I saw something I've watched years ago be a playable series haha)

Atelier Ayesha is also a good one to start with (I recognized the music in the background btw lol). It was my first one at least It also has the time limit mechanic even after you finish the main story (which there is a reason for it). I can guarantee that unless you know what you are doing, you probably won't finish first playthrough. I got to the first major boss (there are two main line bosses that I call "major" bosses) and beat it when the game ended. The second time I saved so much time that I finished all the side stories pretty easily as well after the main story ended. My next playthrough I'll have a lot of time reduction and may try to beat the side bosses that were a pain to defeat. Btw, despite me not playing it in the last 2-3 weeks just to have a break from it... I AM STILL ADDICTED TO IT. Sagittarius is best boss theme ever. Atelier Ayesha has a really amazing sound track. Love it. Also the characters are nice and well... I have had a game like this in like... Ever...

The Iris trilogy was my starting point in the series and I just love how the series progressed with time. And yeah, I would agree with Escha and Logy being a good starting point. 1:37 I actually came to this video specifically because I was curious if any of the newer games were any good. I have actually only ever played Gust games on the Playstation 2 and own 6 titles. My entry into the series was Atelier Iris 2, I actually liked that game and thought it was a decent a game. The next Gust title I played was Ar Tonelico: Melody of Elemia, which is also a game I really liked. I own both: Atelier Iris: Eternal Mana and Atelier Iris 3, but I didn't like them as much as the second game, and actually never completed it, same with Mana Khemia. The next and final Gust game I would play was Ar Tonelico 2, I remember being so excited for this game, I had it per-ordered and the release was actually delayed but I was super into the website and reading everything I could about it, and it ended up being one of my favorite games of all, Luca is one of my favorite fictional characters of all time, I love that game. Unfortunately, it was plagued by a really bad localization, so when NIS America announced Mana Khemia 2 (I was on their mailing list), it reminded me of how pissed I was at the botched, I unsubscribed from their mailing list. Outside of looking into Ar Tonelico 3 when it was released and then realizing it was a bad game, I never actually played it but it was pretty obvious it wasn't I wanted to play, I did buy the Hymnos Concert CDs though, because that game does have great music, that I didn't want to miss out on. So I haven't really followed anything Gust has done since then but have heard about Atelier Ryza a couple of times, and I'm like "oh yeah Gust, I remember them" I wonder if their newer games are any good or if they are still as meh as ever. So I typed Atelier Ryza and your video popped up. Based on what I have heard here, other than improved graphics doesn't seem like too much has changed with these games, so Ryza, or really any of them are probably not going to be titles I will enjoy too much. Honestly Atelier Iris 2 was probably a bad entry point since it's a lot more story driven than pretty much any of the other Atelier games, which is honestly more my style, probably also why I liked the Ar Tonelico games, 2nd game also had lots of lesbian subtext and was pro sex worker rights, stuff I had never really seen in a game before so it had been super memorable for me. So I was kind of hoping that some of their newer games might be something I would want to pick up and play but it's not really sounding like it. :( Oh well, thanks for the video.

I had 100% completion on the first of the Dusk trilogy. It really is easy if you focus on getting your tasks done and try not to travel that much. I do agree that Ryza is one of the best to start with. Though beginners should be prepared how confusing your first Atelier will be in the beginning, even with the tutorials. :D. Just push through and all will be clear. This fits into the fact that each game feels great progress wise as you constantly get better and you are rewarded for it. This is one of the BIGGEST feature noone talks about....

I know it's simplistic but in all honesty one of the major things that get me interested in playing new games and games series is how good the opening music is. If it sounds really catchy I'll definitely look into it. That's how I got interested in both the Kingdom Hearts series and the Persona series and I never looked back since.

I just recently started playing atelier ryza 2 and I am really enjoying it. What’s funny is when I first saw the trailer for it I thought it would be terrible (mostly because I don’t play these type of games and I play stuff like red dead redemption and God of war). I was so wrong about it and now I want to try out other atelier games like the mysterious dx bundle coming out soon for the switch.

I remember being interested in the series back in 2012, but I was turned off by the time management and reading about how restrictive it is. In late 2020, I started the Arland Trilogy, and found out that there is more than enough time to do almost everything. It might not be enough to do everything in one playthrough, but it is more than enough for me to achieve the good endings, I also spent many days just sleeping to make the time pass quickly.

Being honest, if I saw this before picking up Ryza then I probably would've gone for Sophie instead. That'd be a shame, because everything else be damned Ryza has one of my favourite OSTs (another one for me is Blue Reflection, and I think the same guy composed both) Still totally getting Sophie on the next Steam sale though

i got into the Atelier series when i walked into my local GameStop when i was younger and found Totori's Premium edition on the shelf and thought the art was so good i just picked it up without a second thought lol... it was rough, as it was my first ever game that had a time management system and i never actually finished it! but i loved the art and music so much, when Sophie came out and i heard it dropped time management, i was super excited! i did just pick up a PS3 and another copy of Totori again, so ill hopefully finish it this time around lol.

I started with Totori, great game series. Ps. This game series has going since the 90’s and also sparked a spin-off game in 2006 called Ar Tonelico (which has a killer soundtrack).
@pidgeadlawan6136
@pidgeadlawan6136 Жыл бұрын
Ar Tonelico is not really a spin off but rather a different project by Tsuchiya Akira, which was supposed to be a TTRPG concept but became a game, which explains why the world building is so beautifully detailed. But yeah, the Atelier series is much older and now we get to experience the very first one with Marie getting a remake

Thank you for this review. I recently played through Ryza 2 as my first Atelier game and now playing the first Ryza. I want to try the Dusk Trilogy next since it seems to be the most well liked group of the games before Ryza but was concerned about the time management. However your review puts it into perspective and it still sounds appealing. I'm not sure how this series fell under my radar back in the day. Glad several installments are available on modern consoles.

The only part I disagree with here is that you can pick any game in the series to start and be totally fine. I mean, I guess he's right in that you don't absolutely *have* to play them in any sort of order, but I would at least recommend picking a start of a story arc. Rorona, Ayesha, etc.

Reason why ayesha and escha and logy deadline is much much more lenient than arland series is, they have "!" symbol when there's specific events or quest in that place. Its actually easy to 100% even without a guide IF you're already familiar with atelier series in general because of this simple notification. But damn, dusk end game and dlc is no doubt the hardest bosses in the franchise, except for shallie. And another thing, escha and logy timr limit is definitely lenient than any other atelier games because they have clear assignments and they're very easy to do as well. While rorona have similar system, because of the vague description and rating system, its just harder to do lol. Totori, meruru and ayesha is about the same while Meruru being the hardest and ayesha being easiest due to "!" symbol. Meruru is hardest because there's no clear guide how to complete your objectives, while in totori you have to just increase your rank which is very easy if you abuse load save mechanic.

Escha and Logy is my favourite, mainly because I love Logy and bought shallie because he was in it again as a party member. Dusk is my favourite overall, as it's easy and it has my favourite alchemy system, not too simple but not too annoying/confusing. From mysterious i played sophie and it was ok but I don't like the mysterious grid alchemy system and the method of getting new recipes. Not played any of Arland, as those seem hard with the strict time limits and super bosses, I plan on playing L&S, Firis and Sophie 2 next.
