SAE Aerodesign Mexico 2023 | Crash & Fail Compilation

For everyone asking, the rules/mission of this event are (summarized): -Design, build and fly (a simple takeoff and land pattern) a fixed wing airplane with a size limit of 2m x 2m (it must fit within that box) however there are also 2 more shapes of boundary perimeters to choose from. -The airplane must carry 2 types of load; solid and liquid, depending on the weight carried throughout the 6 rounds you gain more or less points. -The power system shall not excced 750w peak, and a 4S or more lipo battery must be used, using a wattmeter that remains installed throughout the rounds the watt peak is monitored and theres a penalization if you exceed 750w and if you exceed 1000w the round does not count. -Takeoff distance of 30m for liquid payload and 60m for solid payload Around 20 teams took part of this event, local teams and 3 international teams (Costa Rica, Colombia and Poland) Each team could choose how much they wanted to load their aircraft, one team succesfully flew with 9kg of payload! CG indeed was a big concern, specially when flying with the liquid payload as the sloshing of the water caused it to shift. In the end there were many succesful flights, i'd say twice as much as crashes / fails! I'll soon be uploading a compilation the most butter smooth flight rounds.

All these comments from people that never designed, built and tried to fly an RC airplane. One requirement: be harsh, judgemental, a know-it-all. I find much value in every fail. I am grateful to each builder.

La verdad tuve el gusto de apoyar a uno de los equipos y es un reto probar aviones experimentales todos los equipos están formados por puro estudiante...el ambiente y camaradería en el evento es envidiable los muchachos todos ayudando se unos a otros y jamás perdieron el ánimo de lograr probar sus conceptos reparando cada avión entre caídas si les falta experiencia pero el ánimo y entrega es digno de admirar

I had the pleasure to pilot Kansas State's entry in the very early 1990s. It was such fun!! I had only been flying for a few years, it was quite challenging flying an overweight aircraft. After 30 more years of flight experience, I would love to try this again! Im thinking this might make a great event for a club fly-in!

Aircraft need adequate motor power and airspeed to fly. Did they all miss that?

@@julesdomes6064 Yes, the mission had 2 payload types, liquid payload and solid payload, when performing a liquid payload flight the takeoff distance was 30 meters, and for solid payload 60 meters

Se ven muchas pérdidas, hablando en concepto de sustentación, o pérdidas asimétricas, en la mayoría de los casos por el centro de gravedad en una posición incorrecta, así como falta total de potencia motor y la insistencia de mantenerlos en vuelo, por consiguiente pérdida de sustentación aerodinámica por bajas velocidad de vuelo, Aún así una muy bonita iniciativa que más de uno nos gustaría tener en nuestras instituciones como en España que solamente ponen trabas y más trabas y no nos dejan volar, al hacerse dueños y señores del espacio aéreo otras instituciones... saludos cordiales.

Du meine Güte. Die unterlegte Musik scheint mir den Gemütszustand der Erbauer(..) und "Flieger" darzustellen. Wichtiger Tipp: beim Fliegen kann es hilfreich sein, zu wissen, wo rechts und links ist, was das Wort "Schwerpunkt" (CG) bedeutet, und das man es ab 2,5 Promille lieber lassen soll.

Ni creas!, estos fueron solo los choques, la mayoria fueron vuelos buenos, dentro de los reportes tecnicos los equipos te sacan ecuaciones matematicas simulaciones materiales compuestos, claro la experiencia del hobby es una parte muy importante y ahi los pilotos que apoyan a los equipos intentan involucrarse lo mas posible!

En un concurso que resultó muy motivacional pero mal diseñado en todos los vídeos noten el destrozadero de aviones y mal asesorados, creo que no es lo suyo, mejor hubieran realizado un concurso de choques de autos de radio control como los de robótica, y me llama la atención como a pesar de todo siguen participando sin obtener nada. ademas de que no los pueden reparar porque los tienen que poner en la basura porque sale más caro por el límite de equipaje en los vuelos de regreso.
