+Seattle Coffee Gear I have a question about grind size on the Via Venezia. I have an old Starbucks Barista which is essentially an older version of the Via. I love it and it has been very consistent for me. But recently I changed my coffee to a dark Italian roast in which the beans are very dark, almost black but not oily at all. When I tried to brew a shot on my machine, it started then stopped. After about 30 seconds I got worried about the pressure and turned it off, then removed the portafilter. It still had a little bit of pressure left and made a pop noise and spewed hot, wet grounds all over the base and my countertop. I used the same grind size I used before with my previous brand of beans. I dumped out the portafilter then started over with a larger grind size. That worked perfectly. I'm wondering what happened here. Does the roast level make that much of a difference when grinding? It looked the same but behaved like the water was trying to push through an ultra-fine powder.

+helpfulnatural The type of coffee/roast level will absolutely affect how you brew. You did the right thing in adjusting your grind :D Every coffee has a different solubility rate, even as it ages!

I just acquired a ViaVenezia at a thrift for $15. Added an unpressurized two-spout portafilter. It’s a great machine

I've seen some posts on the interwebs that say you can replace the panarello on the Via Venezia with a traditional steam wand. Do you guys sell a kit for that?

What is the pronunciation you're proposing? The original Italian one? Most languages borrow words from other languages and the resulting new pronunciation is virtually never the same as the original.
