Yes, it's made in China. We do sell a non-pressurized portafilter that you can purchase and make this machine more traditional espresso (you'll need a good grinder, then). No retrofit on the steam wand quite yet, but we're looking into one. The steam pressure is good for this machine -- pretty small boiler, so definitely takes some time to steam, but no worse than others of the same size. - Kat

On smaller single boilers that don't have auto-fill, like this machine, steaming, cooling down and then brewing is recommended to ensure you're actively refilling the boiler on a regular basis. - Kat

Distilled water is hard on the internals if they have any metals exposed; also, it doesn't make coffee taste very good as it can overextract. I recommend using water you like the taste of and then descaling. - Kat

Tough call! Their internals are identical, so it's really about your budget. Also, the Via Venezia is a heavier duty case / build and has been around for about 20 years so had a great track record. - Kat

With pressurized portafilters, you can't really dial in based on timing as the tech doesn't allow that. If it's still tasting sour, you might want to updose, tamp a bit or pick a different coffee. It's always going to come out fast (I've found) but you can calibrate based on the taste. We have a video on this - dialing in a pressurized portafilter - that might give you some tips. - Kat

I think for what it is, it's great; if you're doing a lot of milk steaming, though, it might be more of a headache for you. If that's the case, do the Via Venezia. - Kat

Yes, we always fill the filter with coffee; tamping is your choice - if you have a grinder that isn't doing it super fine, then you could try tamping to improve flavor. On these machines, you end shots at volume vs. duration so for one shot stop at 1 oz and 2 shots stop at 2 oz (or whatever you personally prefer). If you need some tips on dialing in your pressurized portafilter, search for that in our videos - we have a how-to guide. - Kat

Dear specialists,i am a cappucino and latte lover. So, a great microfoam for me smtms is even more important than a great espresso shot in the bottom.Given this, would you still recomnend Saeco Poemia over Delonghi ec 155 (which you did many times)?i was going to buy Poemia but read in Pros of Delonghj ec 155 that it has a stronger Milk frother. And now i am bouncing between those entry-level machines.Could you please help me pick the right one for me considering i am a capuchino lover?Thanks a million!

This can happen as your coffee ages, especially if you're using pre-ground coffee. If that's the case, try tamping it a bit to slow down the extraction and see how that goes - Kat

I haven't used the Via Veneto Deluxe, but I think that they are going to be very similar in all of these regards. Just looks like the Poemia has more metal involved, so you'd be choosing mostly based on looks. - Kat

Not really sure on the single basket situation -- sounds like maybe it's not sealing correctly? On the double basket, it sounds like your coffee is starting out too coarse. Also, with pressurization, you can't dial it in by time, just by taste. We have a video on that called Dialing in a Pressurized Portafitler which you should check out for more tips. Hope that helps! - Kat

It would be difficult to get latte art quality milk with this machine because it has a panarello adapter on the wand, so it makes super fluffy milk, versus the more creamy/velvety textured milk you're looking for. But I know some folks have taken that off and used just the nozzle for steaming, so you could try that. :) The coffee side of things is great. - Kat

A few things could be causing it: Too many grounds (make sure you are using between 14 and 18 grams for a double shot), too finely ground (should be similar in texture to granulated sugar), or stray grounds (make sure to clean off the rim of the portafilter, or it will not be able to get a good seal). Let me know if you continue to have issues! - Kaylie

I've been looking around for a different espresso machine lately, but this one caught my eye, alongside the Capresso Cafe and Saeco Aroma. I'm not too experienced, though. Since this and the Cafe are entry level, I want to know if they're really suitable for long-term use? Also, (I forget if you mentioned this in the video or not) is there an option for non-pressurized portafilters? I ask because I hear that you can get a better shot by manually tamping than letting the machine do it?

Hello! I would like to ask for your help. I purchased one of these 2 months ago. I am quite satisfied with it, but now - for a week approx- something went wrong. The water comes through too fast, resulting in a hollow-bodied coffee. The manual is useless - I use the same coffee, and no part is missing from the portafilter (IMHO). Could you please advise me? :( Thank you for your help in advance!

Hello girls, I appreciate the beautiful work you are making and I think you can give me the best advise to choose an espresso machine suitable for me. I can’t decide which one is better Philips Saeco Estrosa HD8525/09 or Philips Saeco Poemia HD8327/99, so I am asking you for an opinion. The price for the first one is a bit higher than the second one, but if this difference worth, than i am willing to pay it. I have to mention that I will use it on my home so I don't want something very expensive. But I want an espresso machine that makes a good coffee. If you have another suggestion for a similar price please let me know.Looking forward for your opinion. Thank you, Daniela

Hi Kat, Thanks for the video. I bought one Poemia last week and I realized that the brew light turns off everytime I start brewing the shot. I left the machine on for 20 minutes before making espresso with the portafilter on it, passed a cup of water through machine with the empty portafilter on it before brewing and still water temperature drops and the light turns off few seconds after I start brewing coffee. I was wondering if I am missing something here. Thanks.

Thanks for the question Pang Chan Yip! Typically when pulling a shot of espresso you want to get 2 ounces in 20-30 seconds. This way you get the best extraction and a great shot of espresso. Adjusting how course your grind is will help you extend or shorten your pull time. :) And of course, experiment with your timing until you find the right setting for your taste and coffee :)

Seattle Coffee Gear There's a video by the parts guru here and he is showing how to brew with a pressurized portafilter and he shows that once you hit brew and want to pull a shot he holds the handle to the right (which locks the little pressure valve and prevents coffee from coming out) for about 6 seconds or until the first drop is forced out and he lets go which creates a sort of pre-infusion if you will. Have you guys tested this theory at all?

Hey, thank you ladies, I bought this machine (largely based on your review) and must say, I'm very happy with it. Got it for under £50, and it makes a really good standard of coffee. It was useful seeing the shot in a see-through glass, because you can see how much it froths. I found the circuit priming, after you've refilled or used the frother, quite odd. Is that normal practice for these machines? Thanks
@SeattleCoffeeGear
@SeattleCoffeeGear 9 жыл бұрын
Hello Mark D, I'm glad to hear you enjoy your machine! :-) Circuit priming is normal after dispensing steam or when the water tank is refilled. It gets out any old water or reside that may be lingering. It's also very important to purge the steam wand after each steam/froth cycle. If you do not purge, overtime milk residue can build-up and eventually clog the steam arm. Plus, you don't want old moldy milk residue mixing with your new milk anyway. :-) I hope this helps! ~ Sarah

Recently I bought this machine (in the Netherlands), and I'm starting to learn how to use it properly thanks to video's like yours, so thanks for that. Question: I usually drink coffee alone but with the portafilter for grinded coffee you can only make two espresso's a time right? The filter for ESE or the rubber thing can't be used to turn the grind-filter into a one-shot filter or can it?
@SeattleCoffeeGear

It sure can! You'll need to put the rubber disk in below the single shot basket and then it will work well for you. It will still come out of two spouts, but you'll just short the volumes. - Kat

Poemia - great temp; not super great construction. Krups - love the tamping system on it, temp is only so-so. Delonghi has good temp and good build quality. None of these are going to last you a lifetime, plan on a few years and they may last a little longer than that. - Kat

If my shots are coming out too fast 16-17 sec, it is probably the grind size? Would the Cuisinart® Programmable Conical Burr Mill grind fine enough for this machine? With the pressurized portafilter a moist puck is expected? Do you have any tips for steaming almond milk? Fat Free Milk? Thanks!
@SeattleCoffeeGear
@SeattleCoffeeGear 10 жыл бұрын
The grind size could be the reason for the fast shots. Definitely play around with your grind to see which setting works best. We have not tried the Cuisinart Programmable Conical Burr Mill grinder, so we are unable to advise if it grinds fine enough for the Saeco Poemia. Moist pucks are generally more common with pressurized portafilters, but may have something to do with your grind as well. We will be releasing another video comparing different types of milk and how well they hold up to steaming and frothing. So, stay tuned for that! However, it is generally a little more difficult to get a rich frothy foam on a milk that is not whole or 2% cow's milk. If you have a manual steam wand, you could leave the wand tip near the top of the milk (where the hissing sound occurs) for the entire time you steam and not submerge the wand at all. This will not heat the milk as fast and gives you more time to froth (if you like a decent amount of foam). - Sarah

high crew.As usual entertaining and informative.I noticed you stated that the Saeco machine was a "phillips".In the UK where I live Gaggia is owned by phillips and the machine you are showing is ,apart from the styling,EXACTLY the same as the gran gaggia prestige.You said that the pod basket could be used as a single shot basket but the instructions state however that the larger basket should be filled with 1 scoop of coffee for a single and two for a double,is this the case.I am also trying to slow my extraction as a shot always takes around 10 to 15 seconds but even filling the basket and heavy tamping(using Illy espesso) doesnt do much.The info for the machine states that it has a "perfect crema" filter that needs no tamping.

Try drawing water out of the steam wand by opening the steam valve knob and switching the dial on the front to brew so that the pump engages. Draw about 4-8 oz. of water out, and this should cool the machine down. You should always be sure to refill the boiler when steaming is finished by pulling a couple ounces of water out of the steam wand. This helps to shorten how long the machine takes to get down to brew temp and also makes sure that the boiler is completely filled so that you don’t have the potential to burn out the boiler. Also, check to make sure you can get water out of the brew head without the portafilter (and possibly the screen, as it may be clogged). If not, please give us a call so that we can further troubleshoot if you purchased it from us. - Miranda

How does this hold up against the DeLonghi EC155 and the Kenwood ES021 (sometimes calle Delonghi ES021?). And not to bother you too much but is there any difference between the Delonghi EC145 and EC155 other than looks? Thanks :)
@SeattleCoffeeGear

The DeLonghi EC155 is mostly constructed of plastic, while the case of the Poemia is made of stainless steel. The Poemia has a slightly larger water reservoir. It also has the ability to upgrade your portafilter to non-pressurized. The EC155 is lower in price. I am not too familiar with the Kmix machine since we have not carried that machine in a while. I believe the difference between the EC145 and the EC155 is that the EC145 is the european version of the machine. - Steven

Hello alper yasharov, Both machines have pressurization so that they allow you to use pre-ground or freshly ground coffee and produce a consistent shot. What I’ve generally found as far as the quality of the shot, they will be quite comparable. The Poemia is a pretty light machine overall, with a plastic body but still solid internal components just like the Aroma and Via Venezia. The steam capability is a bit more consistent, and will produce a wet cappuccino every time, whereas the Delonghi produces a bit larger bubbles that seems to dissipate a bit faster after frothing. I hope this information helps! - Miranda

Hi, I just bought this one (poemia) yesterday as my old delonghi died on me. Ive never used a pressurized portafilter before, so a few questions 1.Once the green light for the brewing mode is on, do i let the shot be drawn till the light goes off? ( shot will be for a cappucino) 2. I notice that the steamer wand doesnt seem to foam the milk as good as my old delonghi. Any tips? 3. If i want a single shot do i use the smaller portafilter, or the big one with less coffee powder? 4. Whats that rubber disc like thing they have provided, is it for use with pods? Thanks

You let the shot go until you have the right shot volume. (1 oz for single, 2 oz. for double) As far as the foam, since this is a Panarello, you're stuck with the foam it creates. There is not much flexibility with creating more or less foam. - Steven

I was wondering, in this video, were they using whole milk or another milk. I tried the poemia with 2% milk, and it was not like the one in the video, and I am wondering if that's because they were using richer milk.@@SeattleCoffeeGear

Hmmmm ... tough call. The Aroma has been around forever so is definitely going to have longevity. But I like the looks of the Poemia. Both of their steam wands are meh - Kat

This guy has a bit better temp regulation than DeLonghi machines, but otherwise, you're going to have similar cups/brew/steam experiences. - Kat

Delonghi ec155 or saeco poemia considering the price is same in my country ?

I think the poemia is a better bet. The prices do not match on our site, and the Poemia is time tested and proven. - Steven

akshay soni It sounds like your grind is too fine, or perhaps too much pressure is being applied when tamping. If you grind your own beans, I suggest playing with your grind setting and making the grind a little more coarse. - Sarah

Niladri Haldar Yes, we still suggest the Saeco Poemia over the Delonghi EC155. Everyones preferences are different though, so while we still pick the Poemia, you may prefer the EC155. - Sarah

Some people complain about the shots not being hot enough. Is this true? For me, the worst way of starting my day is with a "warm" coffee. I like it really hot.
@SeattleCoffeeGear
@SeattleCoffeeGear 10 жыл бұрын
I don't believe the shots for this machine to be "warm". They are brewed at the right temperature. One way to keep your shot temperature hot is to have it extract into a warm glass so that the cup does not take away the heat. - Steven
