Doing nearly constantly 50+ in a 35 zone and crossing solid lines to pursue the best possible line under clear blue skyes in a wonderful surrounding and getting tossed around by the wind….. Marvelous and simply beautiful and fun! 😂 Would love to have a downhill run that long in my area. ❤

The crazy thing about this descent is that you can actually make a right turn onto the highway (which has an adequate sized bike lane) and quickly reconnect to another winding canyon that descends another 10+ miles. These mountains are amazing.

@@SAFABrian if I may, how do you pick rim depth? is it a compromise between speed and maneuverability with crosswind? And for tires width?
@SAFABrian5 ай бұрын
With the Syncros Capital SL wheels being only 1290g for a 60mm wheelset it's pretty much always that depth now. No need to worry about climbing or maneuverability when the wheels are that light. If it's too windy for those wheels it's probably too windy to be riding fast. Tyres are 28mm as those are what these wheels are designed for, but I might go up to 30 if I want a bit more squish on rough unchartered roads.

Rock Creek Road was the first climb on the Everest Challenge, a 2-day stage race with the same vertical as Mt. Everest. I remember it well. Sadly, the race is no longer held. The high speed descents under race conditions was one of the reasons cited for denying a permit to the race organizers.

I've been hoping we'd get a Rock Creek Descent video!! Because I have a deep love for these mountains and Mammoth lakes in particular i feel like i should add some additional info. Rock Creek Rd is the highest paved road in California at 10,255 ft. It looks like they started a little lower than the very top as there is a rougher tarmac section (still easily rideable but not as fast or fun to descend) that I didn't notice here and their starting elevation was around 9,800 ft. Additionally, anyone who's considering riding this should also know that you can continue the fun descent by making a right turn onto the highway followed by another quick right onto another stretch of Rock Creek Rd that drops another 10 miles or so down to Bishop. Cheers!

It is fun to see that both bikes has the solid version of the seatpost. The CFT version (3 piece one) is a real pain in the ass. It is just creaking no matter what I did. I eventually ended up with ordering the solid one and waiting for the delivery hope it will solve my problem… I think scott should sell the bike with the solid seatpost by default or they should offer a replacement for free at the purchase.
@SAFABrian5 ай бұрын
We use them cos we like the weight saving. Havn't had issues with the 3 piece, and it is noticeably more compliant. Both posts are supposed to be torqued to 10nm, I think a lot of people don't know that and have it far under tightened and then blame poor design. Not sure if that applies to you.
@the_real_cansin5 ай бұрын
@@SAFABrian thanks for reply. My seatpost torqued to 10nm too unfortunately it doesn’t help in my case. Putting a thin piece of inner tube between the parts was the best solution for a while but even the inner tube method doesn’t work for a very long time. I am waiting for the replacement 3 piece post via warranty also bought the solid one myself. But to be honest the bike is perfect other than the seatpost issue.
@stuarttaylor48285 ай бұрын
@@the_real_cansin Team DSM also uses only the solid seatpost. Are you using the Molykote grease like the manual says? Also, did Scott want your seatpost back to inspect it before giving you a new one?
@the_real_cansin5 ай бұрын
@@stuarttaylor4828 I tried molykote for a while but it helps no more than 100km. Also molykote is leaking easily from the connection points of the parts. Scott did not ask for an inspection for the replacement probably becasue they redesigned the seatpost and they added a plastic material between the parts to prevent rubbing and my current seatpost is the old version. So I will have the all 3 seatpost versions in very soon. I can update here after testing the others.
@stuarttaylor48285 ай бұрын
@the_real_cansin that's strange because my LBS said Scott would want the part back. Basically I'd have no seatpost for like several months lol.
