Absolutely! Chatting with community members such as Charles (in the previous vlog) was also so important for us to hear the other side of the story. Often 'poachers' in the rural communities are strapped for cash, have no food & are need to feed their families, so addressing the employment issues of the community will be a first priority for WildArk and Zambian Wildlife Warriors. The main video will be dropping very soon on WildArk's channel which explains everything in detail :) Thanks much for watching & for the love

When the father said he wants his daughter to see a leopard in 20 years time, that really hit home. Unfortunately I can't see the situation changing, if there is demand some one will go to the extreme to acquire it.
@NicoleEddy15 жыл бұрын
100%. The problem is that it's such a 'real reality' for lack of a better term! The fact that they haven't seen wildlife in what was once a haven for animals, is hugely disturbing, so time is definitely limited!
@philmitchell94135 жыл бұрын
@@NicoleEddy1 Are people in utter despair? Or are there measures being put in place to try and prevent the extinction of species. I feel even setting up a breeding program to try and save some species would help, as tragic as that would be. I'd like to think this doesn't happen but do you think corruption plays a part in what's happening?
@NicoleEddy15 жыл бұрын
@@philmitchell9413 Unfortunately in Africa, corruption is always a factor but with that being said, the Lower Zambezi NP has set up an incredibly successful anti-poaching unit and employment opportunities with the neighbouring Chiawa community, so Rufunsa is wanting to remodel that as it's proven to be successful. It would be relatively easy to reintroduce animal stock such as antelope, elephant, bush pig etc. into the area, but rather it's more a case of if animals are reintroduced into Rufunsa in the current state that it's in, they will be poached for bush meat due to the unemployment & desperate situation of the Rufunsa Community. The first problem before reintroducing any of these animals back into Rufunsa, is to educate the community on the importance of wildlife & tourism (which leads to employment) opportunities that having a healthy population of wildlife will bring in.
@philmitchell94135 жыл бұрын
@@NicoleEddy1 Educating the community seems like the most important issue. Like many people they lack foresight. Anyway, it was lovely talking with you. Lets pray it will change for the better.

That lion... Is distemper a thing there? It took out a heap of lions a decade or so ago.
@NicoleEddy15 жыл бұрын
It could well be, it was a thing in Kenya & Tanzania however I'm not entirely sure if it affected Zambia. Would it have that effect on the pupil?
@hispid15 жыл бұрын
@@NicoleEddy1 I did wonder. It usually manifests in "fits" but there has been some resistance building in the population. A milder case would severely weaken an adult to the point where secondary issues are apparent. Not sure about the eye thing
@hispid15 жыл бұрын
"distemper symptoms include high fever, eye inflammation and eye/nose discharge, laboured breathing and coughing, vomiting and diarrhea, loss of appetite and lethargy..."
@NicoleEddy15 жыл бұрын
@@hispid1 Ok wow, well it certainly could be. We thought that his coat was just a case of mange as you can see behind his ears when he turns to the side, but never in my life have I, or anyone else in that car, seen a lion's pupil's look like that. I'll try do some research & see if there have been cases recorded in the Lower Zambezi NP.
@hispid15 жыл бұрын
@@NicoleEddy1 If there's a vet there - they could sure check. Its not always easy to determine clinically, but a PCR (molecular test) could diagnose it. The vector pathway when it first appeared a decade or so ago, was from domestic dogs into Hyena which then interacted with lions.
