I wanted to show you what you get in an NBC filter made by Safe Cell for about $4000. The filter works fine and is functionally the same as NBC Filters that cost $10000 or more.

Four grand? I will stick to your bucket design. The redundant 12vdc/120vac fan is nice but can be made cheaper and i will make my own high volume low speed bellows. I enjoy your presentations.

What strikes me about this is that radioactive particles are drawn into the body of the filter plenum which is inside the shelter... And that plastic isn't going to be thick enough to shield out beta particles or gamma emitters, even if it will shield alpha. I would definitely want that in a ventilation compartment outside of my shelter living space. This is more or less how CBRN systems work on warships where the filtration units are in a dedicated filter compartment which opens to the upper deck and the intake screens, but which is outside of the main citadel. That way any maintenance work or filter changes doesn't result in radioactive dust inside the inhabited areas. Have to say that I think this could be knocked up for a few hundred dollars at most using your carbon filter design, a couple of soakwells and a 12 volt blower. Thanks for the insight.

The placement is dependent on your shelter design. It would be best outside. Or in a space inside like a garage that would protect it from the elements. You could also shield it if you wanted it inside your shelter area. Thanks for the comment 👍

This looks like the harbor freight NBC filter. Your bucket with the squirrel cage blower is much better than that chinesium 12V PC fan. I would trust my life to that cheeze fan. You can also buy 12V blowers. Surplus Center (nebraska) sells 120V & 12V blowers. My system is being constructed using plywood and I have dual blowers (120VAC & 12VDC) so I can run either (120VAC inverter & Genset, or 12VDC battery). The 120VaC blower has a lot more power, so I likely run that & only use the 12VDC as backup.

Sounds like you’re all set. Hope you get it up and tested. Do you have a manual air system in mind?

guytech7310, any chance you can share a link to that dual voltage blower? Have been looking for one with no success. Thanks

If you would watch the Atlas Survival Shelter video from x months before you - they also open it, with this same cheap construction inside. It's worth maybe $499, not any cent more. As summary, I can say: If you can't afford a certified Swiss filter, it's better to make one yourself.

Even the Swiss filters are the same basic layout for filtering but are more robust in the container and fan design. And they run about $10,000.

Not sure. You can look at safe cell for specific filter details.

Honestly, its totally not worth $4000. All those components are nowhere near the sum of the total price. That unit is easily just couple hundred dollars worth of components and materials.

I hope you didn't buy this. Looks like a scam to me. I think your bucket filter would do just as good.

We bought this one years ago. At about 1/2 the current price which is still about 3X what it should be.
