REACTION to AGUST D - HAEGEUM & PEOPLE PT.2 (feat. IU) MVs

I'm definitely not one of the big-brained ones so I still don't get the full scope of Haegum's MV's story, but the thing that stood out to me was the chopsticks. How he used it to kill at the start, and how he stared at it in the end before he ate. The "going full circle" vibes of it really grabbed my attention as a writer, so I fixated on it even though I didn't immediately get the symbolism. Eventually after a rewatch, a break, and constant thinking, I realized that he is calling out his own hypocrisy. The same chopsticks he used to take a life, are the same chopsticks that fed him. He criticized the system (capitalism, among other things), but helplessly, he must also participate in it in order to bring food to the table, to keep a decent living. It's such brilliant storytelling!

I really think that in the reincarnation of the emperor in haegum is not a cop, but a thug. If you compare the moments when the emperor danced in the palace and when the bandit danced on the second floor-they are the same! Even the camera angles! I think the point was to show that freedom can be abused not only by the rich and powerful. The evil emperor indulged his whims and cut off the heads of his subjects, while the bandit stole money and killed people. And the policeman asks "do you think this is really freedom?" Everyone was impressed by the line about slaves, but the bandit used it as an excuse for violence: "I'm not a slave, so I don't obey any laws" So yes, I think these works show why our freedom ends where the freedom of another begins.
