haven’t played in about a year because i’ve always sucked at Pvp and honestly sinking multiple hours into a voyage just to end up losing everything at the end to someone who puts just a little “gg” in chat as if they didnt just casually waste my past few hours of game time . I try not to get salty about it but as someone with a regular 9-5 i really don’t have a lot of time to put into video games in general which is a shame because i absolutely love the pirate gameplay loop of digging up chests and fighting skeletons. Will definitely be jumping back in to experience safer seas, even with getting less gold as a reward.

Iv heard people say that tall tales aren’t a risk anymore because of the check point system. But its really buggy and they don’t work all the time. All the items that are buried despawn for example and you have to start the TT again.

Totally agree! It also means that if my whole 4-man squad are on we can play on the High Seas together, but if I just want to sail with my partner and do some chill content, we can do that in Safer Seas and not get ruined by a galleon!

I’m so excited for this!! I’ve been pirate legend for a couple years already, and while I can deal with pve bosses and stuff just fine, admittedly I’m not very good at pvp. I definitely still intend to do high seas when I’m playing with friends, but when I’m catching up on all my tall tales commendations or just chilling alone, safer seas is definitely where I’ll do it

Pvpers coming at you when doing tall tales is just like a bug nagging you, it's not a matter of skills, your ship is empty, you're not in the mood for it and it just breaks immersion. @@Ms.Partii Bro think about it. You are a new player. You don't even know the basics of the game and you are not even used in handling your own ship. Suddenly a guy with more play time than you comes and kills you while you have no idea what you are doing. And just like that your progress on whatever you were doing is gone! So now take the PvP out and you learn the basic game mechanics (Movement, Ship Management, How the trading companies work, etc.) so after some days you feel more comfortable and you can get out on high seas expecting to start learning PvP. Yes the PvP will be very sudden and they will still die just as easy but at least now they know how the game works and after a few encounters with other players they will start getting the hang of PvP too. Also high seas will feel more rewarding because of the 100% price loot you get instead of the 30% that you were getting in safer seas. And because of the limits of Safer seas new players will be forced at one point to get on high seas if they want to progress so don't worry about it too much

Coming from an experienced PVP player, this addition is great for everyone! It will allow families with children to play the game without having to worry about hot mics and/or trolls. It will also be great for new players to start their first few adventures without having to worry about other players. For us, the more experienced playerbase, we will have the High Seas servers filled with more experienced players, as the non pvp playerbase will be reduced by safer seas! I'm hoping the PVP quality and eagerness to fight in the High Seas will increase with this new addition.

Great idea, I leveled up to PL and athena 10 as a solo slooper in the first year of SoT and it was quite 'rough'. It's awesome to see that ppl can learn the game at their own pace or just go chill, gives the people on High Seas a better fight too. A friend of mine recently started SoT and I hope he gets hooked to SoT and we can rampage the High Seas together once he gets the basics (or not also ok :) ). Great to read parents can have a fun time together with kids as well, although most ppl I sail with have an informal rule to stop combat once it's clear it's a parent with their kids, we're pirates not douchebags.

Honestly speaking, this safe seas mode was long due, one of my experiences in sea of thieves was my ship and crew being attacked while we were doing a tall tale, the first part of the shores of gold too when we had absolutely nothing. Which is why I would only from then on, do tall tales in quieter servers, or my favorite tactic, if I didn't need my ship for a tall tale, I would just scuttle it so that I'd be certain my ship would just respawn at an outpost and I could do my tall tale in peace.

So far I would agree, but then those Pirates get crapped on in High Seas, since PvP plays SO differently than PvE and they just choose to stay in Safer Seas. It's often been said that Safer Seas is good for New Players to learn Stuff but I fear you learn the wrong Things. You don't learn to adjust sail, you never see how Players helm, you never learn to fight on your Ship, to defend from Boarders, how and why to use Chainshots and all that. What you learn is to afk Sail to the next Island, Fight Bosses without looking at the Horizon for Ship Checks and yeah. Thats it. This Way, the Transition from Safer Seas to High Seas is EXTREMELY tough.

Oh good, finally a reason to return. Edit: Just to shatter any delusions either the developers or the rabid PvP crowd might have. I will not ever "learn the game" in safer seas and then switch to high seas. Not going to happen, and I'm not alone. I think the player numbers will speak for themselves anyway. The PvE audience is magnitudes bigger than the PvP one. RARE will probably drop the idea of gimping safer seas in the future. The biggest hurdle "there will never be PvE servers" is already taken. It's only a matter of time.

No one wants you to "learn the game" if you don't want to but this is a pirate game and the core mechanic is pvp and stealing loot. It's named sea of thieves. If people want pve that's fine but then yes the rewards should be heavily reduced... much less gold and you should not have access to all the titles and achievements that the rest of us EARNED while constantly under the threat of pvp.

Yeah everyone seems to have lost the core reason of sea of thieves. Stealing or be stolen from. I doubt they'll add much to safer seas. Darn lunatics also won't have the fun fotd events and will miss out on the good stuff lol. I personally dropped sea of thieves, as a player who started as a PVER in 2019 and started arena before its inevitable shutdown. I say that the pvp back then was way better than it is now. And as much as I like the missions, it seems like there's a lot but honestly it's just plain and shallow. People who play on safer seas will find it extremely repetitive without the pvp aspect and just start to complain more. Spoiled brats got what they wanted but still can't enjoy having it with the fair nerfs.

Uninstalled and long gone, I just hate to see it going downhill. I like that PVE players are being compensated. If they did this back in 2019 I would have been estatic. But after playing sea of thieves and experiencing both sides. Choosing pvp was fun and worth it for the friends I've made along the way. I was just simply being a pirate in a pirate game and being told that "being a pirate in a pirate game makes me toxic" really doesn't have logic. I've said my gg's and had fun shared laughs. It was fun when it lasted.

If they wanted to make the PvPers happy, they could just force you to have two separate pirates. One for high seas and one for safer seas, both earn regular rewards, but one is with PvP the other without, and no carry-over. Personally, I thought about scrapping my pirate to start fresh in safer seas, since I won't be able to access the PL stuff anyway... But then I can't tell sweaty PvPers that I'm a PL who hates PvP, isn't good at it, and doesn't want to "git gud" because I have an *actual life* to live and can't dedicate all of my free time to gaming. No other game matches the feel of SoT, and pirates by and large *did not attack other pirates* It's Sea of Thieves not Sea of Sunken Ships

pve will kill this game. The whole core mechanic is the constant risk you take while earning loot. If everyone can just stack loot all day with 0 risk then everyone will max out all the content, get all titles, buy all cosmetics in a matter of months. Losing loot is a designed game loop. It's a pirate game with the name thieves in the title.

I think they should just add bounties to the high seas, could maybe even have a cool-down timer if you sink the same ship multiple times within however many minutes or hours. Give the sweaty PvPers actual consequences, and maybe we wouldn't need safer seas to begin with.

The safer seas remove the initial problem of being sunk by PvP sweats from the equation. Though tbh I feel it would be better if instead of safer seas we got the option to fly a specific banner on our ship that would enable or disable PvP for that ship, when it is raised, players onboard would be invincible to other player attacks as would their ship, just as their ship and weapons would not damage other players or their ship either, nor could you pick up any loot from other players ships unless they have been sunk by something other than you or given to you by said crew. This way you could experience the full game with no limits or restrictions and not have to deal with sweats. Additionally to prevent trolling, if you crash into the ship of a non PvP player, the active PvP player will take damage, if the inverse occurs nobody will take damage, with the offender being determined based on who is moving faster, what course either ship is on and what section of the ship connects first.

Ramble: In an ideal world, there would be people who play this game with the intention of actually role-playing being a pirate. Pirates, much *unlike* the movies, RARELY sunk other ships unless the integrity of their ship demanded the defense. You know what costs a lot of hard earned pirate coin? Ships. A pirate would be down right idiotic for sinking another ship *because they can* It would be much more worthwhile to steal everything on board, AND the ship. I've never seen the Sea of Thieves as a PvP or even a PvPvE game. It's an RPG first, and no one seems to get that lol Why should we be penalized for wanting to play without sweats who don't play the game right to begin with? I just want to be a pirate in a pirate game, not be sunk a million times! :end ramble

@@adambrown6669 also, we already have the opt-in/opt-out PvP system, why not just make all servers PvE with the opt-in/opt-out system.. maybe make it so crews can vote whether to attack other player ships or not, and then that crew would get a pop-up saying another ship wants to fight, do you accept? And the crew has to agree for the fight to start. This would solve a lot of problems, I think. It would also add to the realism/RPG elements of the whole crew having to actively make a decision to fight. (Edit to add, maybe the reaper flags count as a permanent opt-in while it's up/flying, so PvPers only have to agree once)

@@Son0Poseidon could also be really cool to add a mechanic that when you defeat an opposing player ship you get the option to offer their crew to join yours, sort of Davy jones style so they could either go down with their ship and respawn or join your crew and either sail as crewmen or support you in their original ship. Imagine how cool it would be to have a 100% fully crewed galleon that has it's crew respawn on it so you won't need to go island hunting if someone dies, that galleon would have all guns manned, repair crew on both decks, mast crew and lookouts. This feature would be exclusive to captained galleons but be damned cool if it ever was a thing, it would make PvP less of a vibe kill if you lose because then you get to be part of a larger crew earning shared money and xp.

That be a cool idea. Make it like a voyage. Players who have been sinking ships left and right and suddenly there is a announcement of a bounty on that ship. The ship may not be seen on the map but a updating nature by say a ghostly parrot tells the plays of what island they were near last. Letting players hunt the vessels for the glory. Letting someone sail around all day stacking loot, selling millions and unlocking all the rewards that come with that with literally 0 risk is insane. It would break the game. Protecting and fighting for loot is a core mechanic, it's how the game was designed. These rewards mean something when you have to earn them by doing pvp.

Having just a few of your adventures crushed by hackers ESPing you from miles away because you got a vault key and teleporting onto your ship isn't fun, and it's not survivable. You will always lose those interactions. My point is that I may as well be a hacker myself and discourage anyone from messing with my crew. It's the only way I can get around it. Instead I choose to abandon the game. Or they could just make safer seas an offline mode with comparable loot to the real game. This would have allowed hackers to farm accounts for sale like they're doing online anyways, and would have improved their playerbase. Hackers zipping around destroying legit players ruins the game. Safer seas could have fixed that. They chose not to.

I'd be alright if they add Captaincy ships then make the Sovereigns be not available, it be a fair trade off for I want my trusty ship and with no other hostile players I'd be fine taking the loot to the respective turn in spots. Sovereigns while a fast turn in spot I feel only really benefits you when in High Seas for you have to offload fast when being chased but youy don't really have that threat in Safe Seas.

@@Telesto_Timelost The whole system only works if everyone cycles through PvP and PvE. If PvPers never PvE then whats the point? PvPers always have the upper hand. They can join in a server and look for a ship for 10 minutes and sink them, gaining rewards that took hours to get. And if they sink, they lose nothing. The whole shtick of the game is terrible if there is no incentive to PvE. PvPers should face greater risk for attacking other players. I mean, we have prison cells in our ships. Perhaps we should be allowed to jail an enemy for a certain amount of time so they don't just brainlessly go next. PvPers shouldn't just be able to go off the hook that easily if they just get sunk with no loot on board.

Note how they didnt say you cant do pirate legend voyages on safer seas. All they said was you cant progress to pirate legend because you are capped at lvl 40 and you need 50x3 to become pirate legend. Also they said you cant gain athena reputation but this doesnt mean you wouldnt be able to do athena voyages just that the selling of the loot wouldnt give you reputation... However i believe this is just the typical rare style of poor communication instead of saying pirate legend content isnt available in safer seas they just said you cant level your pirate legend in safer seas. reputation and voyage completion are 2 different things

I like this update, though I will likely not be on safer seas myself due to the rewards and being over level 40 in almost all factions. Higher Seas is filled with nothing but trolls and cheaters. The few people that are actually RPing as a pirate, or just trying to get their PVP rank up, I don't have a problem with. But it's the first two types of people that mentioned in the beginning, that are and have been actively ruining the game since day 1. I just now came back to Sea of Thieves because of the PVE, and so far everyone, apart from the cry babies that can't troll or cheat are the ones with the most negative reviews. If you like PVP that's fine but no point has been proven to show people don't like PVE. Quite the other way around in fact. PVP is so overrated though. PVE is where this game will ascend from the depths of the ocean that has sunken into.

With such heavoly reduced rewards and especially the lack of emmissary to multiply your loot, regular looting will probably stay on high seas for my buds, but definitely swapping to safer seas for tall tales as those have almost no gold reward compared to a few hours of emmissary voyages and world events. It's sad that you can't have your own ship on safer seas, but with some luck they will do as gta5 and make the "private" servers more "free range". That 30% is big enough. That is way better than invest hours just to lose it all, or to do short trips or just try and grind in the volcano zone. The rep capped at 40 is no problem, from time to time go to high seas and do short travels. Which tbh, would feel the same as safer seas rate or even a little higher. If you like pvp you will have a server full of ppl that likes pvp and from time to time new players or ppl from safer seas that wanted to spice things up. AND you still have the hourglass. And pve players can do some comendations, practice aiming and naval fights, some world events, experience the tall tales without the worry of bugged checkpoints or griefers, fight megs or krakens without worry, fish without worry. So i trully don't see why some ppl are mad that others will leave high seas for safer seas be it either temporary or for the majority of their time. You will have a pvp server with a lot of pvp lovers to keep playing they way you like. What so bad about it?

This is excellent news. While not a private server for multiple crews or an Alliance/PvE server, this is a respectable compromise. I only have 2 critiques: 1. 30% gold and rep value is too low. I think 50% is more reasonable so gold and rep isn't completely neutered but equally doesn't become a replacement for High Seas. Surely making Safe Seas players work twice as hard to farm gold is enough of an extrinsic incentive to dive into High Seas? 2. Allow Captaincy and Guild progression in Safer Seas. If my preferred way to play is Safer Seas then the story of my ships and guild should carry over to it. It would also create a safer space for roleplayers who use their captained/guild ships and progression of them as part of their roleplay experience.

Its about having fun (something sweaty pvpers might have forgotten about). And when you are trying to enjoy the worls of Sea of thieves by doing tale tales and just want to chill, enjoying the ambience of the game, sailing casually as you talk with your friend about dumb stuff and a repaer starts chasing you (even tough you dont even have any loot) most of the time you either change server and pray it doesnt happend again or just sight and leave to go play something more relaxing like minecraft, because why play a game that isnt fun? Finally PVE. Terrible version of it so i really hope you expand on PVE and dont force people into high seas (If people really wanted to be on high seas they would have already gotten into the game)

This is meant for beginners, or people who want to do the tall tales and enjoy the game. It's not meant to be a safe way to level up and get free money, hence the 30% cap.

@@middlemonster you'll run out of content eventually. You can't advance past 40 or use Athena/reaper. High seas arent bad at all now since hourglass came out, all the sweats went to do that

I'm torn. Coming from Eve Online. Safer does not equal better. While these are fundamentally different games part of the allure and excitement in SoT is the threat of PvP. It forces you to keep on you on your toes, practice safe sailing techniques(not anchoring, keeping your ship organized and stocked, etc.) and generally being a better player. A large population of players, especially young gamers that are accustomed to the easy road will gravitate towards safer seas and eventually burn out because they're bored. I fear that this will spell the end of an already struggling game/player base.

I can finally chill out undisturbed, talk to my friends and enjoy the beautiful world of Sea of Thieves without having to watch out for other ships. I think it's great that the season level can be leveled up without any restrictions. We've been pirate legends and max ranked Athena's blessing since year 1 and just play to chill out in the world, do a little puzzle, fish, just switch off. We hate fighting others and 99% of the time no one ever talks to you, they just attack you without having a conversation. sad.

Finally! I love PVP, but I’m so tired of chasing down ships and raiding them when they don’t even wanna fight. Nothing is more boring than chasing a ship around all day because they don’t wanna shoot back, so now hopefully high seas will be full of likeminded pirates who enjoy a fight. No disrespect to the pve guys, I’m just thankful I get more fights

I love how people complain not being able to attack other pirates isn't very pirate like. Despite the fact REAL pirates rarely fight each other. As it isn't worth the risk of man power that they have to pay for and well their own death.

But to answer your question, because it's the best damn sailing and treasure hunting game I've ever played with amazing atmosphere and an art style that makes random screenshots more beautiful and picturesque than any of the places I've been to in the real world. Unfortunately for both of us, I find zero enjoyment in the PvP, and don't have the time (nor desire) to become a sweatlord. So excuse me for liking a game you like for different reasons than you. Believe me, if SoT had a comparable alternative on the market that didn't include forced multiplayer as a core concept, I would be there instead.

its not about fighting veterans its about it being a pirate game and everybody being a potential target for piracy; deliberately removing this ruins the game as its designed to allow for those interactions. Maybe if they wanted to decrease the skill gap they wouldve kept arena and promoted it more because as of rn i and many others have roughly a 3-4 year skill headstart/gap from the rest of the playerbase

@@samuraidog1510 No because SoT can also be a family friendly game by it's gameplay that older or younger people can't enjoy if they keep getting sunk all the time by people who play the game since 5 years. They'll just being frustrated and move on, not a great thing to welcome new players. This feature isn't a new thing in online game in general. For example, Apex Legens recently added specials lobbys with bots for new players because the game is way too hard for new players when they join the normal lobbys (same for fortnite). Yes people will learn later the hard way, but it's normal to have a safe introduction to the game, longer than maiden voyage. If they added this, it's certainly because they saw on their stats that their playerbase isn't renewed and doing this is the right thing, otherwise the game will be filled with old players that eventually will leave the game because the player base isn't evolving. Remember also that you certainly played a lot of online games, fps, or whatever and sometimes, for some players, sea of thieves is their introduciton to online games, it can be a lot to learn, and highly discouraging and frustrating when you know the behaviour of people online. This feature is a good thing for new players and also old players because the game will attract new people thx to this.

I do understand their balance to keep Captained ships out but I got a fun idea. You have to Pledge the Ship to Safer seas, can only be a Sloop type and can’t get any Legendary Achievements.

"You can finally play without worrying about harassment, but we're going to kneecap the experience to punish you." This is honestly so disappointing. I don't mind reputation being capped, but why are guilds inaccessible here? Why can't I use my ship? Why do I have to earn less than a third of the gold? Why are we STILL limited to playing with no more than three friends? Imagine the excitement of sailing alongside your Discord server. I always assumed the reason crews were limited to 4 players was for PvP balance, but... there is no PvP here, so... what's the excuse now? Sometimes, it's best to just let players enjoy the game the way they want to enjoy it.
