Today I test the top 5 best selling safety glasses on Amazon. This safety glasses test will compare each brand on the categories of clarity, scratch resistance, anti-fog, and impact. We will use the widowmaker (our table saw rocket launcher) for the impact portion of this safety glasses test.
Here are the models we tested:
Jorestech - amzn.to/2XOq9r5
Solidwork - amzn.to/2xH2UEP
3M - amzn.to/2VE44ZK
DeWalt - amzn.to/2KfuRGk
NoCry - amzn.to/3eFGsN4
If you want to check out the video about my table saw rocket launcher:

From other tests I have seen performed on safety glasses, the ones that have an anti-fog coating usually show more damage from scratch tests while lenses without anti-fog show little to no damage from scratches.
@dummkompf

seems like they should put anti-fog coating on the inside, and anti-scratch on the outside. but it would probably be a lot more difficult and expensive to make them that way instead of just covering the whole lens with 1 coating.

🙏 Thanks for testing all these out. I was looking all over for someone who can tell me which one is good. Years ago, I had seen a video of a young man who had his rotary tool's circular saw split into half and the largest piece flew right at his forehead between his eyes before we could even blink. It sunk into his skin about a few mm causing a bit of blood to trickle out, but he was ok because the piece embedded itself into bridge of his safety goggles which stopped it from going deeper and probably saved his life. Ever since then I've been nervous about using rotary tools, so I'm looking around for a good strong pair of safety goggles. You've probably saved some lives here, hope you'll recover your vision in due time. Subbed to your channel 😊

8:45 for this impact test to be even more realistic the head should be weighted. The actual damage in real accident would be higher. In test case here, the head had very little mass and therefore offered little resistance to the projectile, unlike a real head and neck. Also use ultra High speed camera to view any deformation of the eyeglass lens into the eyeball.

Yeah true. Pretty sure the Jorestech would’ve broken had the dummy head been held down with some external weight…. Although… even if it hadn’t broken, taking a 2in pvc pipe directly in the fast at almost 90mph would’ve rearranged your face with any safety glasses😂☠️

Great idea to test , as a note It might be worth adding some putty/playdough on the eye of the dummy and then retest, the main aim would be for the glasses to not fold in and hit the eye , if the glasses were trashed afterwards that wouldn’t matter. In one of the images it looked as if the glasses folded in and made me wince. . Then one could compare which test had the smallest , ideally no imprint on the putty over the eyeball?

Very interesting! Thank you for the review! I was reading reviews on Amazon just now, and it seems the SolidWorks get more complaints about fogging than the DeWalts... 🤔 I wonder if you could do another round with other brands, such as Milwaukee, NoCry, DeWalt, UVEX, Neiko, 3M, HexArmor, etc. Your videos do make a difference, you know? Thanks!

Thank you for sharing, this utterly terrible incident. I never even thought about broken eye protection. For what it's worth I'm sorry you went through that. The pain the immeasurable anxiety the moment after of disbelief and then going for help. I'm glad you had people there to help you not everybody's that lucky. You truly taught me a lesson today, that at my age I didn't think was possible. Every once in awhile you have to say to yourself don't get cocky cuz this could be the one time that you screw up and that's all it takes. Don't worry I don't talk to myself. Well I'm here in the garage with my Dremel and lots of spare pieces of wood. Due to this video I am now going to make a sign, quoting Han Solo in Star Wars. "Great, kid. Don't get cocky" Me nerd. 😂

The Solid works are $30+ a pair now since COVID! While a great pair the company and sellers are extremely unethical when it comes to price gouging and taking advantage of the public! I remember these Solidwork goggles being only $13 in Dec 2019 and January 2020 but did not watch your vid till now! I bought the Dewalts though back then because of the ANSI z871+ rating. If you fo t know the + is where the Ansi ratings differ between impacts and heat or splash,so gir impacts you only want a + rated glasses or goggle and - is for splash ,chemical safety. Thanks so much for your test man and i really hope your eye gets better! God bless you brother!

@@joshsgarage1545 Both of us are older. The video production quality of your videos are abnormally high. Very inspirational! The key is simple. 1. Quantity 2. Engagement. Google owns KZbin and they are in the business of making money so the more engagement your channel has the greater possibility of them making money from advertising from your viewers. Ad revenues rule KZbin. The KZbin algorithm also promotes engagement. Engagement manifest itself through likes and comments. So the key is as many likes comments subscriptions in the way how people get notified now is through turning on the the notification bell.

“Not wearing eye protection can greatly change how you see the world”. Good video everyone should always promote safety and PPE. Hamming 1 nail to hang a picture is simple easy but wear protection; Mowing lawn or spraying fertilizer. I had the nozzle fly off my hose attachment and chemical got all over me, it burned my exposed skin. Thankfully i had goggles on because of videos like this. Accidents can happen to anybody, anywhere, at any time.

Where have you been! I have been searching for safety glasses as I had a similar accident but I was not hurt. The wood hit perfectly between the lens and on the nose piece. The safety glasses shattered in two pieces. The were arnourRX but they were old at least 9 to 10 years. It appeared the plasticseemed to have lost its pliability.anyways I wet on a hunt for a new pair.

Can I be annoying and suggest something that you could test in one of your videos. Types of sandpaper. Nothing to do with eyes but as for dust that comes away from sand paper which were most likely inhaling. So us dust dangerous and why? Plus different brands all seem to have different grits. You could talk about how sandpaper is made. also what sandpaper is made of. Plus the paper that the Sandpaper is on that sometimes sucks with some Brands sometimes not with others. Which sandpaper is the best and lasts longest. Last but not least some sandpaper has warning on It . While others don't. What the H-E DOUBLE TOOTHPICKS ?( this quote brought you from Cannonball Run, 10 times better than the Fast and Furious franchise. Please don't kill me😂)

Honestly, the difference between a $2 pair of safety glasses and $20 is irrelevant to me when talking about important safety gear like this. I'll take the Solidwork, and in fact I just bought a pair. Even at $20, if it works well and doesnt fog up, it's worth it.
