I did the same thing with solo backpacking! I'm going to try again this year and I'm super excited.

It definitely opens up doors on places and times you can go when others can’t. I still always prefer to go with a friend because it’s just so much more fun but if a friend can’t go then at least I have the option of going alone and I know I’ll be ok.

Having contact back home during fire season is so important. My first solo overnight was at Bobby Lake last year. Smoke started rolling in from the other end of the lake as the sun was setting and all I could think of was going to sleep and waking up trapped by flames. I really didn't want to have to pack up and hike out in the dark. I messaged my partner at home, and he was able to determine that I was safe and the smoke was from a distant fire, brought into my area by a change in wind.

right on,,,I always listen to my gut and I have cancelled several camping trips and I know listening to my gut saved me from some sketchy situations it is good to read the compusre and behavior of people you come across in the woods

I have cancelled backpacking trips as well, especially if it’s just a day or two after a bad thunder storm. I’m so scared of wildfires!
