41:38 knife steels, I can confirm are not within 5% of each other. Cutting on ceramic will obviously dull a knife, so cut on a cutting board or use a table knife. This was a fun one for me! I'm right at the beginning of my journey into product design, and manufacture! Have presold ~$10k revenue worthy of units within a few weeks, super exciting to see! I may just be able to quit my desk jocky engineer job soon! My product is a little intricate thing made of stainless steel, synthetic rubies, and stabilised (resin impregnated) wood. My biggest learnings so far is, doing the CAD modelling is NOT the same as designing something that can actually efficiently be manufactured. Like Will mentioned, DFM type thinking. That and producing actual workable engineering drawings that can be used for manufacture. That and actually learning how to talk directly to the factories building the product. Many people get caught dealing with middle men companies that just add extra cost and they talk to the manufacturer. It's definitely best to buy talk to the manufacturer directly. To talk directly to the factories, you need to know the lingo otherwise they just don't won't talk to you. You want to deal with the biggest factories, and they want to on deal with the biggest clients. You need to talk like a big client and know the lingo otherwise they won't deal with you. Learning all this, first hand has been such a huge valuable learning experience that I genuinely feel has been more valuable than my entire engineering degree. It feels like a super power being able to think up a product, do some cad and drawings and get it manufactured within months.... Just unreal!
