safeVisionary2 - Safe 3D camera tackles common AGV problem and helps avoid collisions

How do you avoid collisions between mobile robots and other mobile robots or manned vehicles, e.g., a forklift truck? See in this video how safeVisionary2 adds a secondary level of safety to that provided by safety laser scanners and how it helps avoid damages to personnel and material.
While safety laser scanners are a perfect solution for hazardous area protection, common issue is that they cannot detect obstacles above a certain height, i.e., above the scanners’ scanning plane.
safeVisionary2, the world’s first 3D time-of-flight camera with Performance Level c, tackles this issue by providing a three-dimensional protective field.
In our example, safeVisionary2 detects a pallet transported by a manned forklift truck and prevents a collision by safely bringing the mobile robot to a halt. Due to a gapless monitoring, the application allows an automatic restart, thereby not only increasing safety, but also productivity.
As an added value, precise 3D measurement data delivered by safeVisionary2 help you with your automation tasks.

In the application shown, the primary safety function (person detection respectively personal safety) is performed by the safety laser scanners, providing performance level d. safeVisionary2 is used as a secondary protective measure to reduce collision hazards with objects that can indirectly cause a hazard for persons. The safe 3D time-of-flight camera provides gap-free object detection for the area above the safety laser scanners, increasing personal protection.
