IMPORTANT TIP: when packing your luggage the last thing to do is right on top (so first thing u see when opening ) put a paper with ur flight info as well as contact info. Normally that’s the first place the luggage office checks if a tag is missing or something. This can prevent your luggage from ending up here. I always do this! My bags go with colourful straps and handle hangers with my surname all over those things and a note to check the top front pocket, where I will always write out the original flight(s) as booked and contact information for both ends of the journey. Even if I get bumped to another flight and take a different path than my bag, they'll have the intended destination, who to contact, and who can accept it for me if it ends up on the opposite side of travel than I did.

I'll never forget when I lost my luggage in Scotland. The sweetest old man who worked at the airport drove my bag from Glasgow to Edinburgh and I had no idea until he knocked on my door. But I lost a piece of luggage in the US and it was horrible trying to get it back.

The United States is THE WORST! I remember flying WITH American Airlines from Florida to New York for a week-long, for a wedding. Was on the phone for days!!! They stated they would "mail my luggage if they found it." They lost my luggage in Atlanta where we stopped but the Airline swore they had no clue. I had to purchase brand new clothes, and shoes (an entirely new wedding outfit that took me months to find) before, and I was rushed. When I say I lost EVERYTHING and would have been SOL had I not owned a credit card to charge all these purchases. My fiance and I decided to drive back instead of fly because the experience was horrible and made a surprise stop at ATL airport where I demanded to go to LOST & FOUND. Long & behold, there stood my luggage that had been scrimmaged through and had several expensive items missing. Including my Jimmy Choo wedding shoes. Coincidence? I THINK NOT!! American Airlines only reimbursed me for like $1k worth of my purchases and it was a lengthy process that required purchase receipts etc. The shoes that were stolen from my luggage were $3k alone. I don't usually purchase allot of shoes nor expensive shoes at that, I save and then buy something I really like and it was devastating for me because they were brand new that I purchased for the wedding with an Oscar De La Renta dress that was also taken, smh.

Oh I never blame Saf or Tyler or anything if they look into things like this and they aren't as wholesome as they seem at first. Both of them are simply making an entertaining video and when they reach out to a place to film and showcase it, the company/organization is going to put their best foot forward. Only time I'd be upset at Saf or Tyler is if they were promoting something that was actually a full on scam or had extremely shady practices/support. Like if a place was a known discriminatory company, or dangerous organization (like PETA for instance) Her videos aren't exposé's and I don't expect them to be.

I’m still waiting for Lufthansa to reimburse me. Why is that normal that after locating a luggage, they don’t contact the rightful owner?? Who decides, they can just go ahead, and sell my things?? Especially items you can’t put a price on!! My dog first teeth made in to a medallion, hardly any cash value, but she’s gone , that’s all I had left of her. This is disgusting, this makes my stomach sick. There should be a law against that! I didn’t lost my luggage!! LUFTHANSA LOST MY LUGGAGE! Edited on 06/27 2024 They sent me $274 as a reimbursement! That must be a joke, I’m not going to take that offer , they pay more for delayed luggages! It does not cover the value of my items they lost. Not to mention replacing my iPad , I know I shouldn’t have it in my luggage, but it wasn’t the first time I traveled with my iPad in my suitcase. That amount doesn’t cover the vet bill that I had to take my dog, because all he’s epilepsy meds was also in there. Honestly this is outrageous. I might have to contact an attorney…

I went to Unclaimed Baggage in late May. I was chosen to open one of the bags, and I got the same items that Safiya opened first. Down to the two fake Gucci and Versace shirts and funky slides. AND the yacht mop bag with chargers. These bags are completely staged

As someone who's on their 15th day of not having received my bag, this is terrifying. Also I didn't lose my bag, THE AIRLINE did. And i dont give a shit that they reimburse me if it's gone for good, there are very personal and sentimental items in my suitcase that cannot be replaced. EDIT: I GOT MY BACK BAG!!! 5 days before I had to turn around and go back to Amsterdam and about 5 1/2 weeks after I'd arrived in San Diego, they finally delivered it to my door. I was SHOCKED but mainly just really happy!

As someone who has airline traveled for a couple marching band trips over the years, those “unclaimed” instruments make me so sad and angry. The most of the owners of those instruments probably were traveling to or from some sort of concert or performance so I cannot even imagine how heartbroken they were to “loose” something so valuable to them.

And then the part where they’re talking about some people maybe not wanting the stuff anymore anyway - we’re sure doing a lot of work to soften the reality that these people entrusted the airline with they’re belongings and then the airline “lost” their bags and sold them for a profit. I get they have to do something with unclaimed luggage but we should live in the reality that they airline took this stuff, it’s not mostly stuff people didn’t want or were careless with. "lost" is used very freely here. people DO NOT deliberately "loose" their luggage to this extent. Everyone knows how it is dealing with airlines with lost (by the airline) luggage. This shop feel super shady.

You wouldn’t even need to do any detective work! luggage tags have the travellers full name and would link to addresses, numbers ect :,( I recently left my hand luggage on the plane and they never contacted me!! The airport had no phone number or email so I had to go back in person to find it :/

I mean, from a business standpoint that seems 100% logical. The store most likely bought the stuff from the airlines, they don't want to lose money by risking someone recognizing the stuff and coming to claim it (and the person would probably want to claim it for free). Also the allure of these kinds of stores is they may contain things that other people might want. If the original owners show up to claim their things, it becomes likelier for the remaining things in the store to be worthless. My point is, it's just a business trying to make money, there's nothing shady about that.

I understand why you think that way and I think your hearts in the right place, but when the companies don’t pay to dispose of trash items and donate them instead then the charity has to pay to dispose of them out of their pocket which wastes donator money and limits the good they can actually do. If they’re not going to donate items that are actually being requested they should pay to dispose of them themselves. They’re only donating what they can’t sell which are often, as someone who has sorted through “donations” from stores like this, things that charities can’t actually give away. Even the items companies recycle, they get a kickback for that. All of these actions are to maximize profit. Beyond that, this store is not struggling to make a profit. It’s a tourist attraction that profits off the misfortune of others by selling used items for much more than they should be reasonably priced for. They could afford to donate a portion of the goods that are in sellable condition and actually do some good. Or better yet, donate a portion of profits. What they’re doing is good for their bottom line and good for their pr, but it’s not actually good for charities or the needy. Everyone has to make their money, yes, but if they’re profitable than they are making their money and the only reason they aren’t doing more for their community is greed.

They have not returned it yet (we are in U.S.) despite the constant communication! She has an AirTag and checks the location regularly…I wonder if this will happen and it will end up at a shady store like this.

Tip for getting your lost bag back? Tell the airline there’s medication in it and request an “escalation.” At least in the EU, escalated searches mean they will literally track your bag with security cameras through the baggage chain in the airport. Worked for me 👍🏽

thanks for the tip. it is so unethical for the airline to 'lose' the bag and then turn around and make a profit on it!! everyone has to enter credit card info to buy a plane ticket. it would be so easy for them to just send the bag to the address of the credit card. if it isn't their home, it's likely a home of someone the person knows. i'm guessing telling them you have medication you need probably makes it a priority because they don't want to be sued if you have health issues.

I just want to add my thoughts and about why they don't allow guests in the warehouse. I used to be a warehouse supervisor for a salvation army and though they are not the same I can guarantee it's probably similar. The warehouse could possibly be extremely over stocked and that could be a safety hazard for people who are not an employee because it's possible they could get injured somehow tripping or something falling on them and the store might not have insurance to cover non employees. It could also probably be a freaking mess back there and possibly embarrassing for the company to show how much stock and possible disorganization happens. Possibly there's a chance that the guest may see something back there and want to purchase it without it being processed to go on the sales floor and that can cause some awkward interaction. There is also employees that are working back there and having guests and camera crew can cause disruptions and they might not be able to do the job at hand because the disruptions of a social media person in cameras can be distracting those are just some thoughts and why I think they don't want people back in the warehouse could be totally wrong or maybe that's somewhat true but we we don't like people going in the warehouse when I used to work at salvation army because there was a huge chance that hurt that was my main concern

I definitely think that the reason why they didn't let you film in the warehouse is because there's most likely obvious contact information on the suitcases and didn't want their shady business to be uncovered. Not sure I can say that I'm a fan of this store...I find it really sad because 90% of the time, it's airlines that lose people's luggage and actively choose not to contact the owners regardless if there is contact information on the suitcases or not. The wedding dress and rings broke my heart.

Yup. Once profit becomes involved, ethics tend to go out of the window. My friend "lost" her suitcase on the way back from her destination wedding. The suitcase held her wedding dress and several expensive gifts. Her other checked suitcase was fine, and only had basic clothing and hygiene supplies. She stood in baggage claim for over thirty minutes waiting for her suitcase and had to get an airport employee to help her. She went through the whole rigmarole of declaring her luggage as lost and waited another forty minutes _just_ in case. Her husband had to push her to leave, in tears, and called corporate for her. They were never contacted. They called the airport, called lost luggage, called corporate, called anyone and everyone they could think of, but that suitcase remained "lost". There's almost no doubt it was lost on purpose and resold.

Most of the time if luggage isn't found right away (or had been left off for weight and balance reasons) it's because it was stuck somewhere in the workings of the belt system or fell off a cart and was put somewhere by ramp to deal with later and forgotten. This store is the epitome of nasty. First off, the prices are ridiculous. $60+ for used jeans that were basically stolen from someone's luggage??? Only donating the raggedy stuff that the charities will have to pay to dispose of?? They have stuff on display that they KNOW who the owners are but they are refusing to return them?? i've found a good way to deal with this is to actually ask at the gate as soon as it opens for the next layover for them to check for your checked in bags. started doing it when my dad told me to (he travels a lot for work) and i've never had an issue with baggage. more impressively, he hasn't either pretty much ever and he basically travelled internationally once or twice a month every year for about 20 years

TL:DR; Don't go here. This place is shady for a variety of reasons. Also the prices aren't a good deal. Retail value doesn't mean a damn thing. It's a common price trick. Compare the same product to other sellers if you want to know if it's a good deal or not. All the wedding rings, dresses and other clearly special items made me sad. Reading stories from people on here also made me sad and very angry. Lots of cases where luggage was selected to be lost on purpose so it could be sold. The main reason this is sus and shady is because they sell luxury goods used and not just everything that could be sold, like some Walmart T-shirt or similar. Given the other stories in the comment section and the fact that they didn't want Saf or Tyler or anyone in the back makes it really uncool and even more shady. People don't just lose wedding rings. 90 days isn't enough time. There should be a 90 day period to try to contact the person that lost it, and another 6 months at a separate place for people to retrieve their stuff. What really hit me though was the person in the comments who said charity seems nice, until you realize that it's actually them dumping the "garbage" in their eyes that won't make a profit and would otherwise cost them money to get rid of. Also, I compared prices on their online section, clothes, jewelry etc and no, you're not getting a deal. It's a price trick. Some stores even sold the same merch for less and it's brand new. Considering everything is second hand or even more worn, their prices are ridiculous. You might find a okay deal every so often, usually because the store is unfamiliar with the brand if it's outside the USA or popular mainly in another country, like UK or France. But that's just because they don't bother to do much research either. I don't know who comes up with the retail value, but they're wrong. Sometimes even compared to the brand name stores own estimate.

I imagine that a vast majority of the items that are “recycled” are actually incinerated or put into a landfill (same with a lot of the donated stuff). I work at a landfill and if it really was economically feasible to recycle those items then the landfill would fill up MUCH slower. Clothes especially are very rarely recycled, as it is difficult to repurpose the fibers from so many different types of materials with different chemical processes and colorants added.

That violin they showed really hurt me 😭 as a musician I know how important instruments are to people and that was probably one of their most prized possessions. I’d highly doubt they just never tried to get it back-string instruments used by serious players are thousands of dollars. Oh, you don't need to worry about the airline loosing your cello because it has to travel in the cabin and you need to buy a seat for it. It's cheaper to just rent one at your destination. People don't realise how easy it can be to lose luggage during travels. The tip about putting a piece of paper with your contact details, or even an email address in a pocket inside. But ultimately pack appropriately. If it's expensive, or sentimental, pack it with you for hand luggage rather than hold luggage. Most of those cases will be hold luggage. And if you're prone to being forgetful with items ie leaving them on places, post it notes on your plane window saying what you brought on to the plane makes sure you walk off with it as well. Especially in times where it's stressful, and flying can be stressful with no delays or plane changes too.

A lot of this makes me angry as they could have done so much more to find the owner of these products. The Apple products (and other similar electronics) could EASILY be returned to the owners as you register them with Apple. In college I found an iPad and called Apple gave them the serial number and they contacted the owner who gave them permission to provide me with their contact info. I was able to meet them at the local PD and give them back their iPad. The airline could easily do this and identify the owner of the entire suitcase/bag the electronics were left in. Instead they sell them to these people and they wipe all of the content on the devices in order to resell them. A lot of people don’t store everything on the cloud and are loosing sentimental photos, texts, etc. because of this. So sad.

General rule for packing luggage I've always followed is to only use a carry-on when possible. If you have to check a bag, try to avoid putting anything valuable in the checked bag that you would seriously miss if it was lost. If you have to put something valuable in a checked bag, then make sure your contact information & flight info are both on the outside AND the inside of the bag. Also, take a picture of the contents of your checked bag so that in the event it gets lost, you can have some record of exactly what was lost.

Watching this before and after experiencing having my luggage lost is very different, I think a lot of people that haven’t had to handle airlines giving them the go around about their luggage may not understand, it’s so unnecessarily complicated and aggravating. The thing that made me question the business was that they said if the airline couldn't find the owner of the luggage, the luggage was sent to the store in Alabama. They also said at one point that the owner was reimbursed for the lost luggage. If the owner couldn't be found, how could they be reimbursed?

I think what they mean is if the owner contacted the airport about their lost luggage and the airport couldn't find it they reinbusrt them and then the luggage that was left behind and never claimed just gets sold off to these guys and the owner in that case would not get reimbursed unless it happens to be the luggage that some owner somewhere got reimbursed for. Imagine if you were on a flight from Atlanta to London and you realize your luggage was lost once you reach London ? Will you pay for return tickets to Atlanta and then drive 200 miles to the middle of nowhere in Alabama , not knowing if your stolen luggage will actually end up there ? I dont think anybody that has really lost their baggage will have resources means or incentive to get to Scottsboro AL in the hope of finding their lost luggage at the right time. This place is a chop shop selling fake goods branded as lost baggage.

Kudos Saf for making comments in the video (and keeping them through the editing process) that were honest about how you felt about the overall experience and questioning some of the things that seemed sus about what was going on behind the scenes. I think the jacket you found made you look sort of like a detective, which I thought was an interesting coincidence given the situation... While I enjoyed the outfit reveal fashion show and seeing the interesting items, it is definitely incredibly sad how those items ended up in the shop in the first place. The high prices of most of the items surprised me as well.

As someone who has worked as a baggage handler for an international airline, I NEVER check my bags. If you have to, always check your clothes and put anything you don't want to loose in your carry on. As a rule of thumb be willing to pick up your bag and throw it 10 feet, because that's whats about to happen to it at the airport. Finally, the heavier your bag, the more likely it will get broken, if you want your stuff to survive invest in two well built smaller bags as opposed to one larger one. Seriously I cant count how many 70 pound bags I broke the wheels on because people seem forget that a real person actually has to handle their luggage. Good luck!

How absolutely scummy is it when they overcharge for a plane ticket, require loads of personal information just to get on the airplane, and then they sell your lost luggage for more profit instead of connecting the dots -- dots that we KNOW they have -- to get that luggage back to you. This should not be legal. They're crooks.

If they know which flight the bags were meant to be in, they know everyone that was traveling on that flight. They have access to every passenger's information especially contact details, they can send mass emails/text messages everyday till they have gotten a response. Now if they accidentally send the bags to the wrong flight, that could be trickier because there are many options as to which flight they were originally meant to be on. There should be a dedicated team to track these things however, hire a couple of data analysts to do just THAT, because judging by the amount of stuff in here, it happens more often than you would think!

@ i had a boss who, while admittedly was a chaos person he didn't abandon his luggage, atlanta just couldn't find it. he was a bit of a pistol so he put up a huge fit when they lost it and they got sick of explaining to him, so they finally took him down to the GIANT chamber all the luggage pass through in one of the busiest passenger airports in the world and told him "fine, you find it" and he finally shut up and filed a claim.

Just a huge word of caution to anyone who goes to these Amazon returns/liquidation stores. They are NOTORIOUS for counterfeits. So many people get in trouble on eBay for selling fakes that they had no idea weren't legit otherwise, and IP law is strict liability, so if a company comes at you for counterfeiting, you're still on the hook. Keep this in mind when buying stuff for cheap like this. If it seems too good to be true, it probably is. Not saying you can't magically find some real stuff, but spend cautiously. Edit: I know this because I work in the IP law field and we deal with this stuff on a daily basis.

Unfortunately, that is something you have to be extremely careful about. I used to admin for a Facebook buy and sell group before Marketplace was a thing. There was a span of, like, a few months here and there where members were messaging me because the same two people kept making new accounts, getting in and trying to sell their counterfeit items. I don't know how they kept getting in. Wasn't me. Anyway, they eventually stopped, but it was such an ordeal.

I don’t know if they actually do it but this place is supposed to be like an end of the line place for the luggage they can’t return. They spend 90 days trying to find the owner which seems like a pretty long time then if they can’t the 1% of items that couldn’t be returned get sold. They’re not selling it instead of returning it, they’re selling it if they can’t return it. If they sold every single lost bag without trying to return it then this shop would be absolutely overflowing with items and they wouldn’t be able to handle it. It would just be super expensive if they put all the items in a building and waited for the owners to come get it. After 90 days it’s unlikely the owners are gonna come get the stuff so they would just be paying to store the items indefinitely. So it’s better to have the stuff sold and used by someone new than it to just sit forever. And they need to pay all the staff and the maintenance fees and the building bills and everything so if they didn’t sell the stuff then surely they would lose a lot of money. If they didn’t sell it then it probably would all go to the tip.

We’ve been missing our bags for a month now. We call almost every day and have been trying to find any info we can to get in touch with anyone who may be able to tell us where they are. All 4 of our bags have tags with our personal contact info, as well as the tags they scan, yet no one can give us any update on where they are. It’s super frustrating to think all of our stuff may be sold off, and we so desperately want it back! No one just leaves all their stuff. Every bag that’s sold off has an owner somewhere trying to claim it. In our case, it’s not just 1. It’s all 4 of our bags!!!

Okay so I’m calling B.S on the Certificates of “authenticity” and “everything we sell is real”. The second she said that I knew if I saw a Coach bag she’s full of crap and sure enough 10:11. Worked at the Coach distribution center for 5 years told hundreds of people hundreds of times our company doesn’t have such thing as authentication services or certificates. So unless every single coach bag they ever found happened to have an original purchase receipt inside of it, there is 0 way to tell it’s real or replica.

As someone who both travels frequently (for family, no choice) and who always buys second hand, I actually kind of struggle with this store (not the staff's fault). I find it really, really hard to believe that people don't want those items back (I certainly only pack what I truly need and love) or made zero attempt to get them back in the majority of cases. I'm sure there's a legitimate process and I understand airlines can't hold items forever, but it makes me a little uneasy. When I buy from a second hand store, I always appreciate the fact that someone else was _done_ with the item. I find that hard to believe with the vast majority of this.

I once almost lost my luggage and it was so devastating! I was so confused when all but one of my luggage arrived and I immediately reported it to a nearby worker. The fact that she said "I'll try to find it but if we can't then there's no helping it". Like, what??? How did one of my luggage get separated from the rest of it and they had no idea where it was? Took them 2 days and a lot of constant phone calls from me to finally retrieve my luggage. I can't imagine losing my things and having it sold off to other ppl bc of irresponsible airlines!!

I’m almost positive most of the luggage in the warehouse has contact information that they didn’t bother to use so they could profit off of peoples items and steal them. Its not desperation, its capitalizing on as many profitable systems as they can. Airports have excess luggage around when its not picked up immediately, limited storage for it, and limited workers to keep track of lost and found followup. Of course if they are legally allowed to sell it, that is what they are going to do. And, say, if more luggage is held back, less initiative is taken to return it, and less workers are hired to maintain lost and found, they can squeeze even more money out.

I once checked my bags but was so goddamed later passing trough the massive security lines that I lost the flight and my bag just flew to another country on its own. I never seen it again

They do. You would be surprised at the number of people who just up and forget that they even had luggage or don't recognize their own luggage. The amount of times I've called people and asked them if they forgot their luggage is much higher than logic would suggest. Also, people not recognizing their bags. I've had multiple instances where we have a person looking for their bag, me asking them if the one bag on the belt is theirs, them saying no a few times, and me then reading the name off of the tag and comparing the number with their stub to find out that yes, it actually is their bag, they just can't tell it apart from the other 50 black bags that came off the belt.

This feels like theft if I’m honest. Not to mention that the airline probably makes more money selling it than it spends compensating people who’ve lost baggage. Wonder how much of this baggage they actually tried to return to the owner and how much they put aside as an extra source of income.

I mean she did say that the airline keeps the luggage for 90 days and that 99.5% of people do get their lost luggage back. And I think its better that its sold rather than just thrown away.

@@roanc3709 i agree that the unpacking part and hopes luggage was kinda suspicious, especially how in hopes video she gave away gift cards from unclaimed baggage. but if the airlines and the store have done everything that they could to try to get the bag back to the owner and still fail, then i dont see whats wrong with selling the unclaimed items and making the best out of a shitty situation. also airlines have to reimburse people who lose their bags so i dont think they would purposely "lose" bags to sell them.

I will say from the reimbursement they ask you to estimate how much it was worth. I lost my bag going from America to England. I was given $200 to buy new clothing because my bag wasn’t gonna show up in England for 4-6 days. If they never got my bag to me I would’ve been given around $600 total. I had pack for a month long international trip but still…..

Getting my luggage stolen was one of the worst things which happened to me, I had my pc and all my USB keys/SD cards with all my pictures/videos/music/etc from the last ten years, and a lot of my favorite clothes... Even if those are just "objects", it made completely depressed. So it makes me mad seeing people profiting from lost/stolen luggages. I'm sure all these people tried to get their luggage back. This is really fucked up.

I’ve been to the store many times because I grew up near it. They actually do have a ton of thrift store priced items (under $10), but usually the name brand items are on the high end. I once bought a gymshark top new with tags for $12 because they weren’t familiar with the brand since it’s based in the UK and didn’t price it correctly. I’ve gotten good deals a few times on other brands too that I knew were expensive but they just weren’t as popular in the U.S. I do agree that they still shouldn’t price the name brand stuff so high.

girl, i work at a charity thrift store, where we don't get paid, i'm a volunteer, we save kittens,a nd we don't charge NEAR as much than this for profit company. the most we put on a good pair of adidas shoes is $10.

It feels dishonest to me to pretend that none of it gets thrown away; the business just puts off the dirty work of throwing away the most unsellable items on the charities. This store is already a second-hand store, so how much of what they "donate" to the charities is even sellable or usable? Charity shops get tons of donations and a great deal of it is not something anyone will buy and ends up being thrown away in the end - the shops don't have infinite storage. Obviously there is some amount of this stuff that ends up being garbage, whether rightfully so or not, and it makes me suspicious that the owner tries to frame this as a 100% perfect no-waste situation for all the items when that's not even realistic.

that's one thing, but "recycling" can mean a lot of things. Greenwashing includes calling burning general waste as recycling because "it gets recycled into electricity!" one way to make the statistics look nicer for sure
