@@sageaudio yeah Softube makes it. Personally, I use Acustica Audio Titanium 1B which is a convolution sample of the actual hardware unit itself.

SAGE, Your mistake of not mixing your rap vocal chain into a beat leave me disappointed. The sound of what your chain does in the beat is the proof that it's on point.

Thanks for watching Mark! I agree that you have to mix within the context of a beat - but this should help give you a great foundation in most mixing situations. From this chain you'd need small tweaks, mainly to the EQ, to sit the vocal into the beat. SageAudio.com

how do you not get latency and/or phasing from using a linear eq on the bus
@sageaudio
@sageaudio Жыл бұрын
The DAW compensates for the latency - if you leave it in minimum phase, that's when you'll get phase cancellation. Thanks for watching!

too sad, this chain is not shown *IN A MIX* for the better understanding. but if it is an acapella rap, it sounds ok. :)

Brighter, brigher, brighter, brighter... then lastly, make it brighter. I hope nobody follows this. Poor technique at nearly every step.

Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts! But how would de-essing, resonance reduction, and doubling cause the vocal to become brighter? SageAudio.com
@Rockoslab
@Rockoslab Жыл бұрын
@@sageaudio your first step was to roll off at 110hz, cut 3db at 250 or so with a q so wide as to also cut 150 2db, then cut again a few more times with fairly wide q factors on your way up to a boost at 3k. That's the first instance of brightening. Then you cut more mids and low mids with soothe. Again, brightening. Then you cut even more mids and low mids with split eq and once again boosted highs and high mids. Brightening for the third time. Then you de-essed, compressed and doubled. Finally you created an fx buss with a rather extreme high pass filter... which has the effect of... yet again... brightening. Your chain goes well beyond cutting problem frequencies here. My guess is you could do with 1 less cut with fab filter. Tighten those q factors. Give the artist some more 250 and 150 back. The soothe can probably handle it from there. Kill the split eq entirely and see what some compression get's you b4 you add more eq. The omnipressor is probably not the best choice here either. It can pronounce resonances via the expressor. Mb an opto emulation. Then a sweetening eq perhapse. Kill the doubler and set your fx buss eq so that your high pass is set somewhere between 250 and 500 and slap a low pass to roll off just below the sibalant range. I can't believe I just typed all that.
@Rockoslab
@Rockoslab Жыл бұрын
@@sageaudio split eq is also a really odd choice for vocals. Perhaps if your problem is with plosives or sibilance. But otherwise what's the reasoning here? Vocals, especially rap vocals don't really have the accoustic envelope to benefit from this. It's more likely to introduce a problem than solve one.
