One interesting thing about him is that there is one thing that remains consistent from his high school years to his adulthood- viewing regular people as lesser. Even when he had his “ protect the weak” philosophy, he still looked down on people. I’ve seen people say that his turn is too immediate, but he was already halfway there

Gojo and Geto's dynamic is easily one of the best aspects in JJK, as both characters contrast and complement each other very well. 👌

i find it tragic that no matter how much geto extends himself to fight for others, nobody besides the exception of gojo extends a hand back. he was always expected to be this savior, and because of that he embraced that role because it was all he had. without it, he’d regret his actions and much more. even if gojo might’ve been one of the only people close to geto personally, gojo still looked to him for guidance instead of seeing him as an equal. geto was the brains while he the brawns, so he *depends* on geto to tell him what is right or what is wrong due to being raised in an environment where jujutsu is what makes up a person. because of this, geto is left alone in the dust and in his conflicted feelings. i wouldn’t even be surprised if he felt angry or upset in some way every time someone, especially gojo, asked him if he was okay. when gojo asks if he is fine, like when he asked geto if he had lost weight in the HI arc, he knows that he cannot truly tell them his feelings because the facade and strong front he put up will shatter and he will lose that said savior role. even if he seems himself as lesser than gojo now, he still sees himself as strong in terms of ideals and righteousness. his ego, more like. also, i’d like to add that i believe that geto does rely on gojo too. both of them rely on each other without even realizing. they needed each other in their worst moments, but they couldn’t be there for each other because of inner conflict and the interference of outside parties tying into their beliefs. they may not have been the strongest duo, but they felt the strongest together. great analysis on geto!! imo he’s one of the most well-written characters in the entire story, and he’s the one who changed my outlook on jjk as a whole. looking forward to more analyzation from your channel!! :D

i find it really appropriate how Geto losing his purpose as a sorcerer and leaving jujutsu society gave Gojo a purpose as a sorcerer. the lack of that purpose prevented Gojo from understanding Geto's struggle until it was too late but in the end, they both were fighting for the future of sorcerers, by very different means of course. and both probably wished they could do it together but thought it was impossible at that point (thinking about chapter 236 and Gojo saying he would have been satisfied if Geto was by his side and Geto's reaction T_T)
@singulariteas
@singulariteas 5 ай бұрын
geto absolutely did rely on gojo as well! a lot of people talk about how geto is the only character who saw gojo as a person and not just the strongest, who thanked gojo for his hard work and checked if he’s okay, and while that’s true, it’s often overlooked that gojo supported geto in his own way too. it’s not acknowledged enough imo that one of the things that led to geto’s downfall was the isolation he felt, since because gojo was so strong they were both sent on separate missions and thus spent more time apart. we see throughout the HI arc that geto is prone to overthinking and can sometimes be very self-deprecating and blame himself for things (such as kuroi’s kidnapping) and gojo always told him it wasn’t his fault and not to worry. without that support from his best friend to fall back on he was lonely and lost in his own thoughts, not only blaming himself for what happened to riko but having to deal with a complete breakdown of his entire belief system all by himself
@kiiyus
@kiiyus 5 ай бұрын
@@singulariteas exactly! people only rlly talk abt how gojo relies on geto but never the opposite. nice to see people who are aware of that factor in their relationship. in some ways, you can call them selfish for using each other as crutches, but it’s understandable why they’d do so.
@kiiyus
@kiiyus 5 ай бұрын
@@valeriyav2149 very, *very* true unfortunately. gojo was given a purpose since the beginning, while geto had to fight tooth and nail for a place/cause he was satisfied to give his life for. this caused that rift between them to form and it didn’t help that gojo still idealized geto and his “protect the weak” ideology. when it came to the geto-gojo shinjuku scene, like u said, gojo couldn’t understand geto. however, i’d like to add that maybe it wasn’t that gojo didn’t understand, rather he was in denial and wanted geto to change back into the best friend gojo could understand, since he was always the brawns while the other the brains. this can be backed up when gojo asks yaga if strength is really everything in this world, to which yaga replies “no.” gojo can really only understand from a simple minded point of view, because everything was given to him, so he thought that he already knew everything. turns out, he truly didn’t, and he learned that the hard way: the loss of his best friend.
@c_ocolo428
@c_ocolo428 4 ай бұрын
I agree with your analysis more than the video. I actually think Geto ultimately pushed Gojo away in the KFC scene because he knew Gojo would try to share Geto’s burden (and mission) if he knew the full extent of it. Geto knows that Gojo has a different mandate -to be the strongest - and probably hopes that Gojo can achieve the goal of protecting jujutsu sorcerers merely through his superior skill and strength. In other words, Gojo doesn’t need to eradicate humans to achieve Geto’s ultimate goal, but Geto sees no other path for himself given his own lesser strength. He loves Gojo too much to condemn him to a villain’s role by asking Gojo to join him (which he would, given his willingness to massacre the Star Plasma cult). Love is the strongest curse and the real reason Geto had to go his separate way. Jealousy had nothing to do with it.
@valeriyav2149
@valeriyav2149 6 ай бұрын
i think Geto's line to Gojo about his strength was the best thing he could have said to him. it was heartbreaking to Gojo at the moment, sure, but it made him truly think about how and for what purpose he has/uses his power. Geto's whole character is based on the need to have a righteous impactful purpose to continue using his very draining technique and Gojo not having any purpose despite his immense power was the only reason he couldn't understand Geto's struggles and Geto knew it. So the question "Are you the strongest because you're Satoru Gojo? Or are you Satoru Gojo because you're the strongest?" was something that pushed Gojo to find his purpose as the strongest sorcerer and probably helped him understand how Geto felt (even though it was too late to change anything, it still kept that strong connection they had even after a fall out)

This also shows that the world of Jujustu Kaisen sorcerers as a whole needs to change. Who sends developing teens on psychologically traumatizing missions and then shows no support for them when those missions fail. They're practically creating villains and then are shocked when it comes back and bites them. We also see this with the current generation. Pretty sure Mai, Yuji and everyone else in both classes are under 21. No where near fully developed and yet are sent out on the most missions. Where are the adults? and for the adults present, the students outnumber them by far.

I feel sorry for geto, he was made to believe that sorcerers were designed to protect non sorcerers, but after riko was killed, he fell into a dark spiral of consuming cursed spirits, and dealing with hard missions by himself(keep in mind before gojo learned rct, he and geto was *both* was considered the strongest and both took on mission, afterwards, gojo took missions on by himself.). He later had a mental crisis where he thought to whom he was protecting if his comrades kept pilling up dead and the non sorcerers didn’t even care about them. I find it believable that someone would end up like him.

Geto’s descent into despair was a very impactful and memorable part of HI, especially from how he separated from Gojo, his most important relationship. I’m curious about how the story would’ve changed if he retired like how nanami did, then again I guess he could’ve still gone crazy from all the curses he saw around him.
@SaryM29
@SaryM29 5 ай бұрын
It's interesting, but I don't believe he could've ever retired. Because of that "savior" mentality, we can see from the start that he already separated the "strong" from the "weak". Maybe if he had had some more interactions like Nanami had with that girl from the bakery, something could've changed within him. But while he was no Gojo, he was still one of the strongest sorcerers, and more than that, he had an intimate "relationship" and understanding of the curse's nature like nobody else. More than that, however, is that he believed that he played a greater role in the grand scheme of things, that his life had to have a significant meaning, not only for himself. It's a role that Jujutsu, as well as his enchantment, gave to him, and that he had accepted, and for that, as well as his "kind nature", as he mentions himself, he could never go back and ignore it like Nanami did. And while people like Nanami can react differently, I believe that once you break past that ignorance about curses, you can never go back, just like Yuji couldn't, even though he knew nothing about it and didn't seem to have inherited anything that could help him with it, outside from his superhuman strength (I don't read the manga, btw, so please no spoilers about his origins, powers and all that, but the point still stands, since he didn't know anything about it no matter how it turns out). Ofc he had a pretty big "call to action", due to what happened with Sukuna's finger, but after learning about how curses affect the world, Yuji also couldn't just sit quietly and watch it happen, even if he were to never see it again. What broke Geto for me was exactly that "ego" that he needed to justify, as Sage mentioned, this "savior" mentality. He could never sit back and put himself at the same level as those "damned monkeys", and that doesn't allow for him to choose a route that either gives the "weak" agency within their "destiny", nor a route that would alleviate his burdens. I somewhat understand him, as I'm a very logic and reasoning person myself, and could probably have fallen for that egotistical mentality if given the chance when younger, but for me, and for my current values, I don't believe it is fair that the "weak" have no agency within their own fight against curses, which they are the most affected by. As much as we say that it's unfair for the "strong" to have to sacrifice themselves for the "weak", we never really asked the "weak" what they thought of it; they were never forced into sacrificing themselves as well, and we can take Haibara and Nanami as an awesome example and contrast to Geto and Gojo, one just did it because he felt like he was good at it, like a sport or a job, and the other one just because it was a "job" that alligned better with himself, while the other two were essentialy "born" into that duty. And I also don't believe that I, myself, as well as anyone else, have any greater purpose to achieve for everyone's sake, despite some people choosing to do it, so I wouldn't mind if the solution didn't come right on my time. Changing society changes time, while I would try and change it, I wouldn't expect everything to work itself through me or even within my lifetime, and believe I could take the "harder way out", in contrast to just killing all the non-sorcerers. That being said, it's way easier said than done, specially without going through everything that he did.

Those two really were two sides of a perhaps greater "Honored One." Also seeing Geto's question in non-meme form is almost jarring. Especially at the end of this video though...neither of their stories really feel complete to me. I don't mean this as a criticism either, (At least as of now with Chapter 247) but it just feels like there's still some grander payoff that needs to happen. Some true great Awakening or epiphany. Even if only in Spirit for one side...or the other.

To be fair pretty much EVERY major cursed spirit we encounter in the series is the byproduct of humanities most negative aspect's. Like how Yuji hates Mahito to such an intense degree it's because Mahito essentially embodies humanities pettiness, violence and narcissism. This is probably what drove Kenjaku nuts over a millennia ago it's an endless war because human's are endlessly depraved and destructive. It's a lot like Demon Slayer as well even Muzan himself was a bit of a victim of circumstance. Afflicted with a chronic illness before he was even born and then given a mutagenic medicine turning him into a demon. Human's sure do love f%^king around and finding out.

Agree man. His death to Yuta didn’t make sense since he’s special grade. He should have more in his skill set to easily handle Yuta even with the death pact boost. Like it doesn’t make sense for him to go toe to toe with it as he should have sense his CE out put was not high enough. You see Yuki fighting Kenjaku, Gojo fighting Sukuna, and Yuta fighting multiple special grades down the line, and it makes you wonder how Geto got to special grade. Bro could have just knocked out Yuta and handle Rika one on one but decided to play around. He did this in the midst of a war he himself started and knowing he has limited time before Gojo shows up. Fight looks impressive at first watch, but it’s a really bad fight compared to fights later on. Bro didn’t have RCT or DE yet given special grade. IMO he should be put in the same tier as the principal. They’re just really strong Grade 1s but have a shit ton of slaves to throw around.

@@ACMR6297it's his curse manipulation technique that makes him special grade.
@ACMR6297
@ACMR6297 6 ай бұрын
@@AmaterasuCG yeah I know. The way special grade is defined, being that you are strong enough to destroy a nation, creates inconsistencies in power levels imo. Like Geto can be killed easily, but it is his curses that he collected that makes him fit the special grade criteria. In theory, it makes it possible that a grade 4 sorcerer who’s really weak can be considered special grade if they somehow became in control of an army or a powerful bomb. IMO that tarnishes the special grade rank because it’s not the sorcerer’s own skill or power that for them the rank.
@Angengai
@Angengai 6 ай бұрын
@@ACMR6297I would say the only explanation is that jjk0 was written before the main series, and all those “domain” “techniques” things were not well developed yet, that’s why it made Geto looks weak. Also the writer just needed a “villain” to die in jjk0.

@@Angengai yeah I'm aware. I thought the fight in JJK0 was good when I first saw it, but now in hindsight, the further into the series wo go, the more I question Geto's special grade status.

Yuki like everyone else up to that point played a role in making Suguru to who he was today. It was a small conversation, but it wasn't like she didn't say that Suguru's solution wasn't a possibility. In fact she straight up admits that killing all non-curse energy users would work and is a possibility, it's just not the option she'd choose as she wanted to unlock the Heavenly Restriction or teach everyone how to be sorcerers. So yes she's sort of to blame for not stopping whatever he was thinking at the time.

A lot of people misunderstood this. Even without Yuki's advice, Geto will still choose to kill humans after witnessing too many of his kind getting killed for no good reason like Haibara and Rika.

Aswell, To add onto this.. The Arguement between Gojo and Geto Has a really cool line that I Wanted to mention, The "If I Was as strong as you, Wouldn't my impossible ideals Become reasonable possibilities?" Geto directly stating the Gap between them at that point, Their Mutual respect for eachother had faded and Geto stated A Truth That Gojo had to accept. A truth he'd been hiding for awhile.. Really adds to How Distinct Geto and Gojo were and How Much their ideals changed after Riko's demise. Edit: Aswell- Geto is basically saying that If it was the other way around, Gojo would be in the right despite having the same ideals, Because Gojo is stronger then Geto Because thats how Jujutsu society has Propped them Up to be. Strength will always determine a sorcerer's Importance.

I like the analysis that he chased after self affirmation and will attain it by whatever means necessary - he needed a reason for his suffering, and he couldn’t find that in his prior worldview stemming from a sense of duty and responsibility to take care of the weak. I also like the analysis that he has always seen non-sorcerers as an inferior species that needs protecting. Ironically, this probably came from Gojo. Combined with Geto’s innate motherly caring nature, possibly related to his coming from a non sorcerer bloodline, he “understood” the weak, and sympathised with them. That is until the death of the star vessel that broke his reasoning, sanity, and “reality”, so he decided on (creating/striving to create) this other reality that would kept things together and maintained his sanity, justify - or more like nullify his suffering in pursuit of more power and the ideal world of his creation - he decided he’ll trample on and exploit the weak precisely *because* he understood their weakness. Maybe there is also an undertone of his own weakness compared to the pure inherited strength of Gojo that drove him to pursue this dream of his because this is what would keep him going, when he can no longer stand the increasing distance between him and Gojo. He loved Gojo - if he couldn’t be side by side with him because of the difference in strength, he’ll oppose him, almost like a protest against the unfairness in that between the two of them, he served as the moral compass because he can’t afford not to - which is what he ended up with eventually when the distance in strength became too much.
