You can get a job at any National Park via hospitality . Housekeeping, laundry, groundskeeping, maintanance, tour or adventure guides, kayak canoe guides, guest services front desk at a lot of the hotels and properties on or close by. Most are seasonal but it's a great way to work and explore. I'm 29 and doing it this summer Fathom Fives National Park.

With everybody currently around me being so absolved in practically anything but the present moment, it can be difficult to remember how to stay true to this part of myself, being able to give my body, mind and soul what it needs to be a happy human. So thank you, thank you for reminding me its not silly, its not weird, to prioritize myself and my happiness~ a fellow 20-something environmental science dweeb

I’m going through the same thing, Ive been researching jobs and internships at national parks. I’ve decided to apply to a science internship that will start in the may but that definitely won’t be my only option, I’m still looking for more internships/jobs. Are you planning on working in the summer then starting school in fall?
@izzzeee
@izzzeee 3 жыл бұрын
@@samantha9782 no, i’m actually planning to finish up my AA in the fall/spring of next year and then interning/working afterwards !! i’m still unsure of where, and what i’ll major in, but i’m excited nonetheless. what park are you most interested in interning/working at ??
@samantha9782
@samantha9782 3 жыл бұрын
@@izzzeee I don’t have a location in mind yet, the internship I plan on applying for isn’t available until Dec 1 but I assume they’ll have me choose a specific park or at least my preferred park. When I see the options I’ll look into which one seems to fit me best. For my major, my current plan is wildlife biology as I’d like to work in wildlife research or rehabilitation. My ideal plan is to intern this summer and or next summer, then after I’ve completed 2 years of college I can work as a seasonal ranger (or another nps job) in the summer of my junior and senior year. Do you have any areas of interest for what kind of job you want w nps?

@SageSummits

Katie R hi Katie! It’s not a necessity to have a college degree, but showing strength in requirements for your position, adaptability, and a strong cover letter is a good place to begin! I also recommend having a wilderness first aid certification which can give you a leg up :)

@Katie girl absolutely! I've already been reached out to for jobs very soon after applying. Check out coolworks.com for lots of various different opportunities inside and around National Parks or Xanterra and Aramark. If you're in it for the money you might be a little disappointed but from what I've grasped employees are able to save a lot of what they make bc room/board and food are already taken out of your check ! :) Much luck to you 🌸

Sorry, two more questions. Are there positions that you can work year round? And do you have to pay for the room and board out of pocket, or is it factored into your pay?

DestroyerZ it’s something I’m working on as well. It depends on the place 100%, working your way up the chain to be completely honest. Again, some jobs are full time, most are seasonal. But with that you can make connections and see where an experience can lead you.

look into WG (wage grade) seasonal jobs. there are plenty of summer seasonal WG 3/4/5's that you can be eligible for with experience. they are usually called "maintenance worker" on USAJOBS. I was a WG-4 custodial worker in Yosemite for a summer, it was awesome. It can lead to a permanent job if you're lucky!
