Sagrada: Private Dice Pool (& 5-6 Players) Expansion Review with the Game Boy Geek

My review of the expansion for Sagrada which not only brings on a 5th or 6th player but also adds a private dice pool. Now you have more strategic things to think about and are at less mercy of the public dice pool.

Sagrada is Spanish/Catalonian word not Italian, meaning sacred. The game takes its name and inspiration from the Basilica Sagrada Familia in Barcelona.

I like the snake draft a lot! I'm nervous that the private pool will make it even less interactive which would be a bummer!

This is such a fun game. Really love the aesthetics and gameplay. My OCD side wishes there were orange dice though...

I’ve just purchased Sagrada and the 5-6 player expansion since I have some family and friends that are casual game players and like the abstract, puzzle like casual games, like the various versions of Azul (except the latest version of Azul). Sagrada has a similar feel to Azul Stained Glass of Sinatra. When we have more than 4 players, then Azul is not an option as they want to be playing the same game. So, I’m looking forward to Sagrada with the 5 - 6 players expansion and it’s even better to know that introduces some new game mechanics too. Test drove Sagrada base game last night and we’ll be playing it with the casual gamers today. I’m hoping it will be a big hit for them, like Azul.

Yeah I almost never play Sagrada without the private dice pool introduced in that 5-6 player expansion.

when we first played the game 3 of the 4 people playing had issued with the colours, i have now found 3 other people that are ok with the colours,,,its the blue vs the green

I'm thinking of buying the passion expansion instead of this as I do play only at two and try to recreate the private dice pool just placing dies on the top of the players boards as a circle. I will be missing the two new card tools related to private dice pools provided in 5 6 player expansion. Does it make sense and may work? Thank you in advanced

1:49, do I understand correctly that those override the rules of the base game, even when not using anything from the expansion? Is it like a correction/patch to the rules supplied in the original?

Yes you could use these rules for the base game too. It's just a more evenly dispersed amount of dice per player.

The private dice pool is not an idea I like, I actually like dice drafting from the same pool and have the moments of hate drafting.

The hate drafting still happens, but you at least get longer term strategy with it.

What I don't understand is if you don't use your dice in the dice pool where do they go at the end of the game?

You’re always selecting one die each round from your dice pool and One from the public pool so you shouldn’t have any dice left over unless there were special abilities you used that caused that. If so just leave them there

I don't remember the exact solo rules, but I think that should work.

Can't private pools possibly lead to more AP because you now have more information to work with?

Hieronymus Pseudonymous In my plays it reduced AP because you can beer thinking of what to use from your pool before it's your turn.

Gary S I don't remember the rules mentioning this, so best to check with the publisher, or pay that question as a comment on this video on board game geek so they are likely to see it.

Wow, I did completely disregard this expansion because I thought it was purely extra players. Felt the original was too long with 4 already so I had no interest in more players. That title is awful because I assumed that was all it was.

Can you buy 2 expansions and play with 8 players?

Component wise I think it might work, but timing and balance of tools and such I'm not sure. Best to check directly with the publisher.
