New Washington is bounded by the municipality of Batan in the east, Kalibo in
the west and Sibuyan Sea in the North. The municipality was formerly called Fonda
Lagatik which was derived from Lagatik River that stretches along some of the
municipalities’ barangays. Fishing has been the leading livelihood among the people.
Sagudsod de Mano literally means the way of catching shrimps. It is usually
observed in the riverbank barangays of Tambak and Poblacion in New Washington,
Aklan. The catching of shrimps serves as their source of living and usually performed
at night with the use of lamp.
