@@SagutoGolf thanks for taking the time to respond…Perhaps my frustration got the better of me… When I first discovered you two years ago, it did really help…but this year, it is constant struggling. Mainly ball striking. I have taken a course online before(not yours), but posting a video, waiting a week for a response, just doesn’t work when our season is about 2 weeks long…(exaggeration). Of course in the end, the problem is me…I get that. Apologies if it came across that I was dissing you or your teachings. I hit a wall, I hit set backs..and its frustrating.

I am a Korean doctor. I mainly treats back and knee joint diseases, and the main cause of back pain is the cervical and thoracic vertebrae, which automatically causes back problems. Tom's theory resembles my theory of therapy, so I'm practicing it, and the batting sense is very good. Thank you. 😅😅

As I have gotten older, my swing had to change and adapt due to injuries and age. Your videos have helped my swing and confidence by limiting my brain ( problematic ) thoughts during the swing. Thank you for your videos and personality which are a nice change from the normal videos online. Here is an update on my progress. Played in my son’s 3 day member guest. He is a 0.2 HC, I M. 13. We won our Flight Thursday’s practice round. We won our flight for the 27 holes on Friday and the 18 holes on Saturday. I had one iffy round of 9 holes. I knew something was off in my swing. Watched your videos after the round at home, (elbows together and straight left arm) Like magic,I played my best 2 rounds of the tournament . It was amazing how much better compression, distance and accuracy. My son also said that the round that I was having issues I was not starting with my weight on the left side like the other rounds. Your method is pure gold, it also is easy to correct in the event you lose your way during a round. Sorry for the long comment but wanted to let you know this 70 year old is striping it……..as long as I stay on the Saguto Train. Thanks Tom

Perfect timing for this video as in my last round went back to old habit of lifting, overswinging, and miraculous contact with ball (not great) to the shaking heads of my family in sheer disbelief. Left wt, tight elbows, TILT, especially the latter.. and about 15 balls at the range, to get it consistently, ready for round today I hope. Even practicing this without club does it. Thanks

I appreciate that, Richard, and I'm very glad to know that my instruction content and "lesson and a show" teaching style are resonating with you! Here's the thing, though - this body-friendly, powerful, low-maintenance swing system is rooted in physics, geometry, and human physiology, and it is modeled on empirical observations of the game's greatest ball strikers. As such it does not discriminate by age or ability - from kids to super seniors and everyone in between, inclusive of the best players in the world. Watch any Tour event on TV and you'll see a significant number of players executing these motions, a fact corroborated by just how many of them have a very centered swing with the lead knee flexing and the trail leg straightening during the backswing, their lead arms on or very close to their tilted shoulder planes, and their hands deep behind their trail shoulder at the top. Having said all that, yes - a considerable percentage of my online school members are in their 60's, 70's, and 80's - i.e.: a smorgasbord of chronic ailments, physical limitations, back/shoulder/knee/hip pain, arthritis, and joint replacements - and they are overwhelmingly elated to experience the dramatic pain-free game improvement, seemingly effortless power, and resulting enjoyment that this swing affords them. It all begins with a proper setup which provides for a free-flowing motion. Upon that good foundation a repeatable swing which produces consistently crispy impact can be built. Have you looked into the comprehensive, sequential learning platform of the online school yet? That's where - among many other courses and lessons covering various aspects of the game - you will find very detailed instruction and drills that take you through the entire swing step-by-step, position-by-position from setup to finish. At just $14.99/month or $149.99 per year the value in terms of what you get for that price point is beyond comprehension, and based on proven results it represents by far the best golf instruction deal on the planet. 0:39 I have been a subscriber for nearly a year and your teaching videos have helped me game immensely especially my iron play. I’m now having issues with my hybrid clubs which I didn’t before implementing your swing techniques. Could you do a video on hybrid clubs?
@SagutoGolf4 ай бұрын
Hi Tom, I'm very glad to learn of your ball striking improvement with the irons - nice job incorporating my instruction into your swing!! It is essentially the same swing with every club, including hybrids; just some minor setup differences and naturally occurring shaft plane changes as we graduate up in club length from short irons to hybrids and woods. To demonstrate, you'll find towards the end of this episode some practice range footage of me hitting a 7 iron, 3 wood, and driver: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pWHbpJaDrrNmrJo. While I do not presently have any hybrid-specific content on my channel, I firmly believe that your performance with them will benefit from my newly updated FREE mini course “The Top 3 Keys You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker”: go.saguto.golf/ Featuring 17 videos and 45 minutes of detailed lesson and drill content, this is a great way to gain a fundamental understanding of the swing keys that will ultimately get you mashing the ball through your entire bag, as well as an introduction to the formal learning method that has countless thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - now enjoying the best golf of their lives: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews Keep up the great work, and let's get those hybrids behaving nicely again! Tom. Appreciate the videos. Good stuff. Can you talk about your wrists - are you actively using them and also talk about your release. Thanks.
@SagutoGolf4 ай бұрын
My pleasure, Steve - I'm glad to know that you are enjoying my content! Ideally we should simply "allow" the hand/wrist/arm actions to happen without forcing anything. If we have a secure grip, pre-establish the connections properly in the setup, and have a foundational base that facilitates a full centered turn without restriction, then once we've ingrained the correct positions through sequential drilling and repetition we can entrust the motion to the big muscles and allow the arms, wrists, hands, and club to simply go along for the ride and respond accordingly as if on autopilot. The power accumulators - including the proper arm, wrist, and hand action - will then naturally load and fire with no contrived manipulations or precise timing necessary, thereby returning the face to the position pre-established at address. We are minimizing variables and building a ball striking machine, and the golfer will find that as trust builds in, the shoulders will rotate freely and the "machine" will then be optimized. It's called "giving up control to gain control", and it's the formula for consistently blissful ball striking and seemingly effortless power. And while I certainly have other videos that address this topic, a better option would be my FREE mini course “The Top 3 Keys You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker”: go.saguto.golf/ Featuring 17 videos and 45 minutes of detailed lesson and drill content, this is a great way to gain a fundamental understanding of this system as well as an introduction to the formal learning method that has countless thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - now enjoying the best golf of their lives: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews Tom Saguto, PGA

Hi Tom, I have just come back to golf after 27 years away, I am now 62. I started playing golf way back in 1972, at the age of 10, I only wish I had access to your teaching back then it would have made a huge difference to my golfing experience. After watching your youtube videos I realise my whole concept of the golf swing has been wrong. I have been practicing what I have learned from your teaching and I am hitting the ball better than I ever did. I was playing of a single figure handicap and I now feel ready to put my practice into play and I will be playing my first round of golf, in 27 years, in a couple of weeks. I will let you know how it goes. All the best to you Steve 👍👍
@SagutoGolf4 ай бұрын
Welcome back to this greatest of games, Steve!! Yes, sadly the vast majority of us - myself included - have been victims of "modern swing theory". Consider that despite all the advances in equipment, technology, golf course grooming, etc. the average golfer still struggles to break 100. Epic failures within the realm of “conventional” instruction, perhaps??? So many misconstrued and/or misguided teachings - such as taking the club straight back, turning the shoulders level while independently lifting the arms, shifting into and torquing against a firm trail side, firing the hips, actively rolling the hands through impact, etc. - have relegated generations of golfers to the vast abyss of inconsistency and chronic frustration (and chronic back/knee/hip pain as well). I’m doing my best here to clear these up one by one and put an end to this madness, and I'm so glad to know that this is performing well for you! By the way, I would be remiss if I didn't mention that a significant percentage of my online school members are in their 60's, 70's, and 80's - i.e.: a smorgasbord of chronic ailments, physical limitations, back/shoulder/knee/hip pain, arthritis, and joint replacements - and they are overwhelmingly elated to experience the dramatic pain-free game improvement, seemingly effortless power, and resulting enjoyment that this swing affords them. If you've not already joined, have you considered enrolling in the online school and taking your learning - and your game - to the next level? That's where - in addition to detailed lessons and drills that take you through the entire swing step-by-step, position-by-position from setup to finish - you'll find diagnostic tools for identifying/resolving swing and ball flight issues when they arise, plus advanced level instruction, and much more. Thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - are now enjoying the best golf of their lives as a result, and their unsolicited testimonials tell the story quite well: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews. At just $14.99/month or $149.99 per year the value in terms of what you get for that price point is beyond comprehension, and based on proven results it represents by far the best golf instruction deal on the planet. And if you'd like to first "dip a toe in the water" prior to diving into the school, then here is a link to my FREE mini course “The Top 3 Things You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker”: go.saguto.golf/ It's a great way to further your familiarization of this swing system and be introduced to the structured learning method that is delivering the referenced results. One does not need the flexibility of a Romanian gymnast - or even of this far less pliable golf instructor - to execute this swing, experience great ball striking, and reclaim - or even exceed - yardages from years past. I hope you'll give the school some thought. Thanks so much for your message and for sharing your ball striking improvements, keep up the great work, and enjoy that "comeback" round!! Tom Saguto, PGA

@@SagutoGolfHi Tom, yes I have the free mini course and will be joining your online school very soon. To be honest I have only had 5 golf lessons, most of my learning, in the past, came from books and articles in Golf Monthly. I saw my swing for the first time, on video, 3 months ago it was a real eye opener for me. I am a builder so as a result my joints have taken quite a bashing over time; I'm actually looking at getting into Yoga to help with my movement. All the best to you and everyone in the Saguto Golfing Community

Joined Saguto Golf online school a month ago. Since then my handicap has gone down from 13 to 9.5. Still not there with the driver, but irons are much more consistent. Even chipping and putting have improved and best of all it is much simpler that what I had been trying to do. And I'm 66 years old. Confident I will break 75 before the year is over.

HI TOM, Saw your video on knee movement on the weekend and couldn't wait to get home and try it. Previously, I did everything you said but it still wasn't working. Still inconsistent, bad shots were always hit fat. I was still doing ( as I have forever) the Bobby Jones, Hogan, Snead, Jack Nicklas, Dechambo move of lifting the left heel and bringing the front knee inwards towards the back knee. Moving the left knee down and forward is the game changer and #1 KEY for me. I don't think you can STRESS THIS ENOUGH TOM. It makes the swing feel so natural. I still wasn't sure if the left knee down and forward started the backswing so that's what I played with today not realizing until watching you just now it is the shoulders that start the backswing and the left knee down and forward starts the downswing. Regardless despite doing everything backwards today I had 3 birdies left 2 other putts an inch short in the heart and I lipped out 2 more. Shot 10 over with a triple on 17 ( probably self sabotage methinks) and a bad bogey on 18. I'm usually around 14-15 over . Can't wait to see what happens tomorrow when I do it right. Can't THANKS YOU ENOUGH. I'm 74. Tried everything for the last 50 years 10 years of Natural Golf ( Moe Norman's swing) Hogan swing; Ernest Jones pendulum swing, Stack and tilt for a couple of years, Nicklas's swing, read all their books and tips, nothing made me consistent even though I have been a professional and world class athlete in my day. Today was the first time that golf felt like a natural athletic move. YUBBA DUBBA DOOO. I tried joining the site a few times and had troubles. I'll try again I ❤ YOU BUDDY. YOU'RE MY GOLF MESSIAH delivering me from evil and frustration, mental torture and self losthing. Cheers 🍻 Robby 😊 p.s. You're a fabulous teacher and instructor. My compliments.

*OUTSTANDING* - I’m very glad to know that my instruction is resonating with you, and I'm very glad to learn of the extent to which you are benefiting already from the sequential curriculum in such a short period!! With regard to the driver, it is essentially the same swing with every club; just some minor setup differences and naturally occurring shaft plane changes as we graduate up in club length from short irons to woods. To demonstrate, you'll find towards the end of this episode some practice range footage of me hitting a 7 iron, 3 wood, and driver: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pWHbpJaDrrNmrJo Oftentimes when golfers are hitting everything well except for the driver it can be attributed to one of the following: 1) Their hips are not continuing their lateral slide through impact. This is common with the driver as the wider stance means that the hips have a greater distance to travel. If the hips stop moving laterally towards the target on the downswing then their rotation takes over, inhibiting any further necessary forward weight loading (we should be 80/20 forward halfway down, 90/10 at impact, and 95/5 in the finish), changing the low point and rerouting the club into a steeper angle of attack (AoA). This can produce a variety of undesirable results including fat and thin contact, topped shots and popups, straight pulls, and “banana” slices. Of great importance is keeping your upper torso/head in place (in other words, not moving towards the target from a face-on view) while the hips execute the lateral slide action. This preserves the swing center and the desired shallow AoA. 2) They are not allowing the length of the club to dictate the backswing path and are getting too steep as a result. The shaft of the driver is considerably longer than the other clubs and thus requires more of an around the body backswing as established by the shaft plane at address. It may "feel" flat as they take it back along the shaft plane for the first few feet, but as long as they maintain the "weight forward, shoulder down, and hands in" components while allowing the club to work around them, it should put them in the proper position at the top so they can attack the ball from the inside. (A good feel for that lead shoulder is "down and in, under the chin".) 3) Many believe - and some even teach - that we must try to "hit up on the ball" with the driver. However, consider that in our stock setup with the driver the hands are even with the inside of the lead thigh (as they are with all clubs when playing a standard shot) and our ball position is even with the inside of the heel of the lead foot. This presets a very slight degree of forward shaft lean with the driver. Beyond that, the ball is behind the zero-point of the swing (which is even with the lead shoulder), meaning that without any contrived manipulations the club will still be on its descent - albeit very close to flat - at impact. So, perhaps with the exception of folks with slower swing speeds - or those Long Drive participants teeing it extra high and hitting maybe 1-2 balls out of 10 onto a 60-yard wide "fairway" - in general the path is still ever so slightly down. In fact, the PGA Tour average with the driver is actually minus (e.g.: downward) 1.5 degrees - nearly level - and it should feel level - but slightly down nonetheless. (Here is an article on Ping’s website addressing this topic - ping.com/en-us/blogs/proving-grounds/optimal-launch-and-spin#:~:text=According%20to%20Trackman%2C%20PGA%20Tour,85%25%20ball%2Dflight%20laws ) Here is a link to my FREE mini course “The Top 3 Things You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker” where you can learn some aspects of the system I teach in a more structured manner: go.saguto.golf/ This will provide a nice foundational understanding of the swing keys that will ultimately get you mashing the ball through your entire bag. Tom, I know you see things a little differently that’s why you have in my opinion the best teaching. I wanted to know what you think about an idea I use. For shots ideally under 100 yards I found something highly consistent Is to take the setup you explain, from there I cerebrally only move my shoulders and of course arms back and through in a pitching shot motion without any hip turn at all. Holding my breath makes it even better and I can hit the same contact point at the ground every time hundreds of times. I know it seems weird but it comes down to a high concentration to stay still and only feel that I move my shoulders with my arms, no other movement. This has made me hit get out of any chip, pitch shot with constant ease

I sincerely appreciate your kind words regarding my instruction content and teaching style! You may have noticed that in some recent episodes I've harped on a shoulder-driven motion with - assuming we have properly built our arm structure and connections at setup - everything else going along for the ride and responding as if on autopilot. This is how we eliminate swing-wrecking variables and construct our "ball striking machine". As such, I am neither surprised by your consistently crispy pitching/chipping results, nor would I raise any objections to your technique. Thanks for sharing that and keep up the fantastic work!! My pleasure, John - I'm very glad to know that this lesson resonated with you to such an extent, and I hope it performs well when you put it into practice! Golf is a very difficult sport. But the way I see it, if we can simplify the swing so as not to rely on timing and/or exceptional hand-eye coordination - and we can - then we will be able to achieve consistently great results without having to continuously work so hard. So we put in the time and effort on the front end to build the swing - preferably through the step by step, position by position learning platform of the SagutoGolf online school - and then we can enjoy low maintenance, powerful, predictable, body-friendly ball striking bliss for the rest of our lives! Welcome back!! My best recommendation with regard to equipment is to treat yourself to a session with a professional club-fitter, and preferable one who does not have an affiliation or incentive with a particular brand. They can efficiently get you dialed in to the head and shaft that are most appropriate for you, as well as other variables such as lie angle, shaft length, and grip style/size. I think you will be very impressed with the process, just as I was in my session as documented in this video from nearly three years ago: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rqGVlGCljraFjKs By the way, with regard to finding your swing, if you'd really like to get on the fast track towards properly learning the body-friendly, powerful, low-maintenance system I teach in a comprehensive, sequential platform, please consider my online school. It will make for a far more efficient, superior, and enjoyable learning process rather than haphazardly trying to piece things together through these channel videos that jump around randomly from topic to topic. The school is where you will find very detailed instruction and drills that take you through the entire swing step-by-step, position-by-position from setup to finish, along with diagnostic and corrective tools for resolving common swing, contact, and ball flight issues, and much more. love the content! going to try the weight forward techinque this week. as a guy who is a weightlifter and has broad shoulders and big chest, lead arm straight is hard to keep. should i keep the short swing or is it ok to go back further and let that arm bend?
@SagutoGolf3 ай бұрын
I appreciate that, and I'm very glad to know that my instruction content and teaching style are resonating with you! The lead arm is the radius of our swing circle, and as such if we desire ball striking consistency we should endeavor to preserve our radius from address to post-impact. Our lead arm should hang down relatively straight without any "forcing" at address. From there, as long as we have a proper setup which is supportive of an unrestricted motion we ought to be able to maintain the same level of straightness that we started with. This is not difficult to accomplish as long as we don't try to take it back beyond our body’s natural stopping point. It all begins with a good setup that facilitates an effortless 45 degrees of hip turn. From there all we need is another 45 degrees of shoulder turn to get to the full 90. If any of those turns are restricted by an improper setup, then the lead arm will fight the stymied torso and have a good chance of breaking down. We don't need to force ourselves to get to "parallel" with this swing, and fighting our body in an attempt to do so will result in some combination of the above issues. If we execute this swing properly we will have created width and plenty of distance for that club to travel by taking it in deep, and that enables us to then harness the tremendous power source known as "angular momentum". Consider Rahm and Finau, for example. "Short" backswings but they both bomb it! While there are certainly videos on my channel that address this topic, a better option would be my FREE mini course “The Top 3 Keys You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker”: go.saguto.golf/ Featuring 17 videos and 45 minutes of detailed lesson and drill content, this is a great way to gain a fundamental understanding of this system as well as an introduction to the formal learning method that has countless thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - now enjoying the best golf of their lives: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews I hope that helps! HI Ive just found your channel. Where is your ball position and how far are your hands forward. Is ball position the same for all irons, What about Driver and 3 and 5 wood? Great channel and many thanks.
@SagutoGolf4 ай бұрын
Welcome aboard!! While this system affords you some leeway, in general once my students and members show some level of proficiency with the swing I suggest that they migrate to a stock ball position that is in the middle of the stance for short irons, two balls inside the lead heel for middle irons, and creeping more forward for the longer clubs - the farthest forward being even with the inside of the lead heel for the driver (with the stance width increasing as we move from shorter to longer clubs). From there they can make incremental tweaks to see how different positions affect impact quality and shot shape. (By the way, I strongly suggest using alignment sticks when monitoring ball position - one on the foot line, a second one parallel to the first to mark the target line, and a third perpendicular to these to show ball position - as our side-on view from above tends to skew our perspective of the actual location of the ball relative to our stance.) As for hand position, it remains consistent - even with the inside of your lead thigh - no matter which club you are hitting. Additionally, the lead arm and club shaft should form a straight line from the face-on view, giving your setup a lowercase "y" look. Would you like to learn some key aspects of the body-friendly, powerful, low-maintenance swing system I teach in a more structured manner? If so, then here is a link to my newly updated FREE mini course “The Top 3 Keys You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker”: go.saguto.golf/ Featuring 17 videos and 45 minutes of detailed lesson and drill content, this is a great way to gain a fundamental understanding of this system as well as an introduction to the formal instruction method that has countless thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - now enjoying the best golf of their lives: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews Thanks - I'm glad to know that you are enjoying my content!! Great!! My struggle is WRIST in all of this. I think you will advise little or no wrist... no flipping through, right?
@SagutoGolf3 ай бұрын
I appreciate that, Greg, and I understand your challenge! We are minimizing variables and building a ball striking machine, and the golfer will find that as trust builds in the shoulders will rotate freely and the "machine" will then be optimized. It's called "giving up control to gain control", and it's the formula for consistently blissful ball striking and seemingly effortless power. And while I certainly have other videos that address this topic, a more structured option would be my FREE mini course “The Top 3 Keys You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker”: go.saguto.golf/ Featuring 17 videos and 45 minutes of detailed lesson and drill content, this is a great way to gain a fundamental understanding of this system as well as an introduction to the formal learning method that has countless thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - now enjoying the best golf of their lives: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews Beyond that, the Precision Impact that I’ve demonstrated in various lesson videos including this one - kzbin.info/www/bejne/nofbhYZ5g7elpdE - is an excellent training aid that will help you to neutralize the cause and overcome that flipping issue. Awesome videos Tom much appreciated.. I’ve been hitting the irons great with your technique but for some reason I cannot hit my woods for the life of me 😢
@SagutoGolf4 ай бұрын
My pleasure, Nick - I appreciate your kind words regarding my instruction content and teaching style, and I'm glad to learn of your improvement with the irons!! It is essentially the same swing with every club; just some minor setup differences and naturally occurring shaft plane changes as we graduate up in club length from short irons to woods. To demonstrate, you'll find towards the end of this episode some practice range footage of me hitting a 7 iron, 3 wood, and driver: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pWHbpJaDrrNmrJo Oftentimes when golfers are hitting everything well except for the woods it can be attributed to one of the following: 1) Their hips are not continuing their lateral slide through impact. This is common with the longer clubs as the wider stance means that the hips have a greater distance to travel, thereby posing an increased risk of premature spinout. If the hips stop moving laterally towards the target on the downswing - which should occur naturally if we allow it to - then their rotation takes over, thereby stalling the necessary forward weight loading (we should be 80/20 forward halfway down, 90/10 at impact, and 95/5 in the finish), changing the low point and rerouting the club into a steeper angle of attack (AoA). The shafts of the woods are considerably longer than the other clubs and thus requires more of an around the body backswing as established by the shaft plane at address. It may "feel" flat as they take it back along the shaft plane for the first few feet, but as long as they maintain the "weight forward, shoulder down, and hands in" components while allowing the club to work around them, it should put them in the proper position at the top so they can attack the ball from the inside. (A good feel for that lead shoulder is "down and in, under the chin".) 3) As it relates to the driver, many believe - and some even teach - that we must try to "hit up on the ball". (Here is an article on Ping’s website addressing this topic - ping.com/en-us/blogs/proving-grounds/optimal-launch-and-spin#:~:text=According%20to%20Trackman%2C%20PGA%20Tour,85%25%20ball%2Dflight%20laws ) While there are certainly videos on my channel that address this topic, a better option would be my FREE mini course “The Top 3 Keys You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker”: go.saguto.golf/ Featuring 17 videos and 45 minutes of detailed lesson and drill content, this is a great way to gain a fundamental understanding of the swing keys that will ultimately get you mashing the ball through your entire bag, as well as an introduction to the formal learning method that has countless thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - now enjoying the best golf of their lives: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews Keep up the great work! My struggle has been moving into reverse pivot when pointing shoulder down. Gotta make sure lower body forward, not upper.
@SagutoGolf4 ай бұрын
I do understand that “tilt” can be a confusing concept, especially for those who are transitioning from a "shift & lift" type of motion and are accustomed to a far more level shoulder turn as a result. However, it is a critical component of the swing no matter what club you have in your hands, and you'll see it in the motions of the best players in the world. If you tilt toward the target while keeping your head in place you will introduce the other components of turning and extending to put your body in the perfect backswing position with your shoulder oriented downward towards the ball. To get a feel for the coordinating of these elements we can reverse engineer it as follows: Without a club in your hands rest the top of your forehead against a wall to keep it in place and assume your setup posture. Without allowing your head to move execute the targetward side tilting motion and watch what happens. Magically your lead shoulder has turned downward, your spine has extended, and there is no reverse pivot!! Have you worked through my FREE mini course “The Top 3 Things You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker" yet? go.saguto.golf/ This is a great way to gain a fundamental understanding of this swing system - including the Tilt component - as well as an introduction to the structured learning method that has countless thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - enjoying the best golf of their lives: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews. And even if you have gone through it already, it can still serve as a great refresher when things go off track. Beyond that, the online school is really the best place to learn this swing properly and sequentially in a comprehensive, structured environment. @SagutoGolf3 ай бұрын
I'm very glad to learn of your improvement - nice job!! It's important to know why the ball is behaving a particular way in order to reverse engineer the cause. The ball is simply responding to the flight plan assigned to it by the clubface at impact. Clubface relative to target line is the primary influencer of the ball's starting line and face relative to path determines direction and degree of curvature. So in the case of a pull, the face is closed to the target line at impact. There are various possible causes for this, including the face being too shut at address, a grip that is too strong, a ball position that is too far forward, weight not moving forward enough in the downswing, a downswing path that is approaching the ball from the outside, flipping/rolling the hands through the zone and more. By the way, always begin with the setup - in this case the first three possibilities - prior to diving into a swing intervention. For example, a golfer may have previously deployed a closed clubface at address and/or a strong grip to compensate for a slice due to a steep downswing path. Would appreciate some helpful hints if possible. Just retired and decided to take up golf once again after knee and hip replacement. Thanks! I might add i just turned 76

Welcome back, Ron! First of all, I strongly suggest scheduling a session with a professional fitter to ensure that your equipment is properly matched to you - particularly shaft flex/length and lie angle. This is an of itself can make a world of difference. A well-fit iron should rest on the ground with the toe slightly up at address. Beyond that, with regard to distance from the ball at setup, in general the arms should be allowed to hang naturally, and the proper setup posture should have them approximately underneath the chin - slightly more outward for the driver - with the butt of the club pointing to the top of your pants zipper from a down-the-line view. In other words, the longer the shaft of the club the further from the ball we will stand, but that should occur on its own by simply assuming the proper address position. From a face-on perspective, the hands should be even with the inside of the lead thigh. Looking down you should see the grip end of the club over the inner part of your lead ankle. By the way, you may be interested to know that a significant percentage of my online school members are in their 60's, 70's, and 80's - i.e.: a smorgasbord of chronic ailments, physical limitations, back/shoulder/knee/hip pain, arthritis, and joint replacements - and they are overwhelmingly elated to experience the dramatic pain-free game improvement, seemingly effortless power, and resulting enjoyment that this swing affords them. It all begins with a proper setup which provides for a free-flowing motion. Upon that good foundation a repeatable swing which produces consistently crispy impact can be built. For example, the outward flaring of both feet 10-20 degrees in our setup facilitates the proper amount of body-friendly, free-flowing hip turn back and through. This is a major power source, and it also keeps the club traveling on the correct path. If you were to square your feet so that they were perpendicular to the target line, then your hips would be impeded from turning sufficiently in the backswing (which would then inhibit the shoulders from executing a full and effortless turn), and from releasing properly in the downswing to propel the club through the zone. Restricting this action can cause a variety of path issues and/or also place strain on the lower back, lead knee, and the hip joints as the hips will "want" to move laterally and turn through into the finish but will be fighting the body in the process. Have you looked into the comprehensive, sequential learning platform of the online school yet? That's where - among many other courses and lessons covering various aspects of the game - you will find very detailed instruction and drills that take you through the entire swing step-by-step, position-by-position from setup to finish. A steady head was Jack Nicklaus’ most important swing key as explained in this video from my channel's archives, Nathan: kzbin.info/www/bejne/e2bGpJyan9-nsMk Having shared that, your issue may not be specific to your head itself and may actually be caused by an issue somewhere upstream in the swing that is making your head come up. Keeping your weight forward is one thing, BUT … You also have to keep your HEAD STILL! ☝🏻 When you demo these swing thoughts, you tend to dip (drop) your head down, toward the ball. I assume it’s because you are exaggerating the TILT move. Wasn’t “Head Still” Jack Nicklaus’ #1 swing thought? (in his book, “Golf My Way”) He was pretty good 🤔 and like Hogan, his fundamentals are forever. Great stuff, Tom 👍🏻 … a concise summary of your teaching. I’m saving this particular video to watch again over and over. Stay crispy 👊🏻

@SagutoGolf4 ай бұрын
I'm very glad to know that my lesson videos are resonating with you! You routinely see me emphasizing an abbreviated finish in my drill swings as this confirms the following: 1) We retained the structure of our arms and shoulders that we created at setup, 2) We had forward shaft lean at impact for crispy compression, 3) We moved the trail shoulder past the ball, and 4) We did not flip or roll our hands through the zone. All of these serve to counteract those chicken wing tendencies. Another good video Tom. That's the beauty of Stack and Tilt, you don't need to play regularly to be consistent and play well. I have a question in relation to the backswing for Stack and Tilt, does the right arm fold naturally as we take the club back in close to our body in the takeaway? Some of your videos have mentioned gravity allows it to happen and others mentioned we have to fold it manually to get it in the karate chop position. Thanks and keep up the good work.

I'm glad you enjoyed it, and I appreciate your kind words pertaining to the low-maintenance feature of this tried and true swing system! We are minimizing variables and building a ball striking machine. This can feel rigid and overly structured initially, but that will dissipate, and the golfer will find that as trust builds in the shoulders will rotate freely and the "machine" will be optimized. It's called "giving up control to gain control", and it's the formula for consistently blissful ball striking and seemingly effortless power. In more general terms with regard to what you perceive to be conflicting information, I do my best to convey multiple “feels” or thoughts throughout the swing wherever possible. We're all different physiologically and psychologically, and something that resonates effectively with one golfer may not necessarily work for another. As such, it is important to understand that the lessons on this channel - while fully aligned with the swing method I teach - address a variety of topics, issues, feels, and/or common flaws/fixes from one episode to the next. They are certainly not intended to be taken as a comprehensive, step-by-step, position-by-position learning platform like the structured curriculum of my online school, which I strongly recommend to anyone who truly wishes to get on the proper path towards owning this swing as it will make for a far more efficient and enjoyable learning process rather than haphazardly trying to piece things together through my KZbin content. The lessons and drills provide the guidelines and set the boundaries, while allowing ample leeway for each individual golfer to infuse and exercise their own uniqueness. Thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - are now enjoying the best golf of their lives as a result of the school, and their unsolicited testimonials tell the story quite well: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews. @SagutoGolf4 ай бұрын
Grip pressure is something that is very unique to each of us, which is why conveying personal "feels" in this regard have led so many golfers astray. For example, a 2 out of 10 “baby bird” grip to a strong guy like Sam Snead may equate to an 8 out of 10 to another golfer. We definitely don't want that handle swimming around in our hands because we're so loosey goosey that we can't control the clubface. A secure grip and structured arms are what we're after here. That prescription will certainly resonate differently for different folks, but the key is that our grip pressure should give us complete control of the club while not introducing swing-killing tension that prevents us from properly executing the motion and/or robs us of speed potential. Finding that sweet spot is a highly individual thing, and it is critical to consistently blissful ballstriking. Tom

Pointing the trail shoulder at the ball in the downswing is a feel that can work, particularly if the golfer is prone to losing their relationship with the ball and standing up on the way through. Having said that, we must remember that there are dynamic actions in the downswing such as the lateral targetward movement of the knees and hip. If one focuses too much on pointing the trail shoulder at the ball it could interfere with this natural flow and throw the motion out of sequence. What "feel" works best for YOU? That is the question, and the comprehensive, step-by-step, position-by-position learning platform of the online school will lead you to the answer! Tom

Another gemstone from Tommy sags!! 🎉🎉 I mean he shows us every day how to do this, why is it so hard?😂 My body is just not that flexible. I realize you don't have to be as flexible like he says, but man can he stretch and rip that ball!!
@SagutoGolf4 ай бұрын
Thanks Alan - I'm glad you enjoyed it!! And no, you don't need the flexibility of a Romanian gymnast - or even of this far less pliable golf instructor - to execute this swing, experience great ball striking, and reclaim - or even exceed - yardages from years past. It all begins with a proper setup which provides for a free-flowing motion. Upon that good foundation a repeatable swing which produces consistently crispy impact can be built. Just follow the step by step curriculum in the school from the very beginning and you'll be most pleasantly surprised at what your body is capable of! Keep it crispy!! Tom

HI Tom,How to maintain weight forward when I notice you lead leg turns and moves out in the early backswing? thanks in advance of replly. .Latif
@SagutoGolf4 ай бұрын
Hi Latif, The lead knee flexes as the trail knee straightens during the backswing, both in their outwardly flared orientation that we preset at address. The flexing/straightening occurs gradually and in response to the increasing forward weight load and the centered tilting, turning, and extending components of the motion. They are not contrived actions unto themselves. We're simply allowing them to be reactive, thereby freeing up the hips and shoulders to execute an unrestricted turn. While there are certainly videos on my channel that address this topic, a better option would be my FREE mini course “The Top 3 Things You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker”: go.saguto.golf/ It's a great way to gain a fundamental understanding of this system as well as an introduction to the structured learning method that has countless thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many accomplished, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - enjoying the best golf of their lives: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews Tom

Great video Tom. Given the consistency w/ this method, what are your thoughts with the Bryson Dechambeau move of utulizing the same size shaft for all of his irons? (I am aware of proper ball placement but that’s another variable that can be screwed up). I almost want to try it but could see losing some distance of course without having the same swing power he has. Also- him and John Daly swear by bigger grips. Thoughts?
@SagutoGolf3 ай бұрын
Thanks - I'm glad you enjoyed it! While I've not personally tried them, there are some excellent players in my online school who love their single-length irons, particularly within the swing system I teach. The concept does make a lot of sense to me, and I would say that they are worth looking into. I was using JumboMax Ultralite grips in extra-large for much of 2022 and the first part of 2023. I had wanted to give them a try for a few reasons, including the fact that DeChambeau uses them and we share similar swing philosophies. I personally liked the feel as well as how they helped to keep my hands quiet through the zone. Now, having said that, I purchased a new set of PXG's in the spring of 2023, and since they didn't carry the Jumbo's in-house I went with their largest available stock grip, which was a midsize. I absolutely love the clubs, and I'm putting the factory grips through the playing test before deciding whether or not to have them regripped. There are no issues with the Jumbos and I still really like the way they feel; that's just where I'm at presently. The Jumbos are not necessarily for everyone - and my fingers are a bit longer than average - so I routinely tell folks to "try before you buy." However, having a properly sized grip that feels both comfortable and secure is critically important as it is our only connection to the object that is going to deliver us blissful joy or deep anguish, yet it is perhaps also the most overlooked equipment fitting component in golf. Another good session coach. Notice your left knee does not point to the ball but rather moves back however slightly along the target line. Am I seeing this correctly or is it a mirage? Stay well-Russ
@SagutoGolf4 ай бұрын
Any inward movement is miniscule and inconsequential, Russ. "Textbook" S&T would have the lead knee flexing straight down towards the foot in its preset outwardly flared position. There is obviously some leeway, and the key is that it does not kick noticeably inward toward the ball or the trail side. Tom
Okay, I can brush the top of the mat, but what allows you to get a divot? Another variable this swing eliminates is knee bend. Your rear knee is straight as soon as you begin the backswing and the front knee straightens during the downswing.
@SagutoGolf4 ай бұрын
The existence of a ball situated behind the low point is what results in crispy compression and the resulting divot, Robert. And yes - The lead knee flexes as the trail knee straightens during the backswing, both in their outwardly flared orientation that we preset at address. Early in the downswing the lead knee retains its backswing flex and the trail knee regains some of its address flex, and as the hips continue to move laterally targetward while the upper torso remains in place, the golfer is then well positioned for an upward thrust with the legs as butt tucks under the hips and towards the target - a very powerful and body-friendly action, much like that of a high jumper. The flexing/straightening actions occur gradually and in response to the increasing forward weight load and the dynamic components of the motion. They are not contrived actions unto themselves. We're simply allowing them to be reactive, thereby freeing up the hips and shoulders to execute an unrestricted turn.
