If you want a golf swing that's powerful and has you playing over years of enjoyment, you need to stop flexing your right leg in the golf swing. A lot of golfers have power leaks in their golf swings that they don't even know about, and flexing the right leg is one of them. Not only does flexing the right leg not have any power, it can also lead to injury in your knees, hips, and lower back. Instead, allow the right leg to straighten to access tremendous power and consistency. When you do this golf tip, you can expect the golf ball to go further, you will hit the golf ball cleaner, and it will feel effortless on your body.

I am Tom Saguto, PGA Member and founder of SagutoGolf. Thank you for visiting my instructional page where you can find how to get on the fast track to improving your golfing abilities. Whether you are a seasoned golfing veteran looking for a quick swing tune-up after an on-course emergency, or a beginner just looking to get the most out of your golfing experience, I am here to help you achieve your golfing goals.
My mission as your swing doctor is simple, to help you maximize your enjoyment in game of golf. Because, let’s face it, golf is a hard game.
My philosophy is wholly based on the student having a fun, meaningful experience in a frustrating and complicated game where potential lifelong golfers either quit because it is too difficult or that they experience some form of swing-related pain or discomfort. I mitigate these problems by focusing entirely on the student’s needs and goals while teaching a golf swing method that ultimately takes stress off of the common pain areas of the swing.

I watched this last night and tested it out today, it really works. One thing I focused on though is keeping the angle in my right leg fairly constant, i.e. hips centred and not sliding back. Also only other thing was keeping left arm straight creating width with a relaxed grip so hands release properly in down swing. Result was 127 Yd PW shot with ease. Can't wait to take it to the course. This move makes it so easy to transition the hips through the swing.

I'm glad you enjoyed it, Ole Sarge! And you are absolutely correct - there's no shortcuts, no way for me to climb into someone’s physiological and psychological uniqueness and translate my personal swing feels, thoughts, or triggers into theirs. I can teach folks what the correct motions and prescribed positions are, simplify them, demonstrate their proper execution, and where possible offer various options/"feels" for accomplishing the same desired result, but by design it must ultimately come down to each individual golfer to interpret, incorporate, ingrain and, basically, “figure it out” if they are truly going to take ownership of THEIR swing! Great job building this into your swing. Enjoy the fruits of your labor!! Tom

@SagutoGolf
@SagutoGolf 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Robin, Uphill, downhill, and sidehill lies are on my to-do list for online school lesson content. Having said that, the keys to playing a shot when the ball is below your feet are in 1) adjusting your setup to properly orient yourself to the ball (since it will be closer to you, your upper body will be angled more towards the ground than on a standard shot), 2) balancing yourself as you may need to feel your weight more towards the heels of your feet depending on the severity of the slope, 3) taking an extra club or two than you normally would from the given distance, and 4) aligning yourself with the expectation that the ball will fade. Once you are oriented, balanced, and properly aligned, you are ready to execute the swing as taught. Bump your hips forward an inch as you typically would so your weight favors the front side 55-60%, and when you take it back make sure that your weight stays forward and your shoulders do not flatten out as they turn, as they will have a tendency to do so due to their preset steeper orientation. In fact, a good thought for this shot is to keep the chest pointing down as you turn, since mishits from this type of lie are oftentimes a result of the golfer coming out of his or her tilt in the backswing. Conversely, a ball above your feet will necessitate having your upper body oriented for a less steep shoulder turn that allows the club to work more around the body, weight perhaps favoring the balls of the feet depending on slope severity, and allowing for a drawing ball flight. You'll likely need to choke down on the club a bit, and for this reason plus the curvature you may also want to club up for this shot, bearing in mind that the ball may tend to roll out more upon landing due to the draw spin. Once again, after making these adjustments you'll want to execute the swing motions as taught - weight forward, tilt/turn/extend, hands in, keeping your swing center intact. By the way, have you considered enrolling in the SagutoGolf online school? For just $10 US/month or $99 US/year you'll have unlimited access to a comprehensive members-only system for the full swing, the short game, and much more. The school's intuitive course curriculum greatly simplifies the entire process through succinct, step-by-step videos, and I'm regularly adding new content. Hi Daniel, Oftentimes when golfers are hitting everything well except for the longer clubs it can be attributed to one of the following: 1) They don't start with - or maintain - enough weight on the front side. In general with the longer clubs we should add a little more front weight load at address - more like 60/40 instead of the 55/45 prescribed for the other clubs. This forward weight should gradually increase to the top of the backswing (70/30) and build further on the downswing - approximately 80/20 halfway down, 90/10 impact, and 95/5 finish. Here is a recently added drill to the Ball Flight Fixes section of my online school that is designed to really get you feeling the weight forward component while also emphasizing "straight arms" to keep the club moving on the proper in-to-out downswing path: saguto.golf/courses/1175315/lectures/31131342 2) Their hips are not continuing their lateral slide through impact. This is common with the longer clubs as the wider stance means that the hips have a greater distance to travel. If the hips stop moving laterally towards the target on the downswing then their rotation takes over, changing the low point and rerouting the club. This can produce a variety of undesirable results including fat and thin contact, topped shots and popups, straight pulls, and “banana” slices. Here is a drill from the Fixing Common Swing Problems section of the school addresses this issue: saguto.golf/courses/1118971/lectures/24305763 3) They are not allowing the length of the club to dictate the backswing path and are getting too steep as a result. The shaft length of the longer clubs encourages more of an around the body backswing as established by the shaft plane at address. It may "feel" flat as you take it back along the shaft plane for the first few feet, but as long as you maintain the "weight forward, shoulder down, and hands in" components while allowing the club to work around you, it should put you in the proper position at the top so you can attack the ball from the inside. This is a common issue that I am regularly asked to fix, so if yours doesn't relate to any of the above causes - or if it does and you are experiencing difficulty resolving it - we can always arrange for an online lesson or a V1 swing video analysis to pinpoint the culprit and offer an appropriate solution. Keep up the great work! Tom

Hi Neal, In this Stack and Tilt swing method we keep our weight forward throughout the motion. You start with your weight forward (55/45 generally, but up to 60/40 for the longer clubs), gradually add more forward weight to the top (70/30), 80/20 halfway down, 90/10 impact, and 95/5 finish. There's no shift into the trail side (which is what would likely occur if we got up on the tow of our lead foot), yet we are still able to achieve an effortless 45 degrees of hip turn, which when combined with an additional 45 degrees of shoulder turn give us a full 90. The result is a centered, low-maintenance, body-friendly, consistent, and tremendously powerful swing! Should you truly wish to give this swing a try please consider enrolling in the SagutoGolf online school as it is one of the best PGA instruction values out there. For just $10 US/month or $99 US/year you'll have unlimited access to a comprehensive members-only platform that really simplifies the process through succinct, step-by-step videos, and I'm regularly adding new content. Hi Martin, Yes - it is the same swing with every club in your bag. There are just some minor setup differences and naturally occurring shaft plane changes as we graduate up in club length from short irons to woods. Also, the progressively widening stance as we move through the longer clubs necessitates that the hips travel a greater distance laterally in the downswing, because if the hips stop their lateral slide towards the target prior to impact their rotation takes over, changing the low point and rerouting the club across the ball, thereby causing an out-to-in glancing blow and producing a variety of undesirable results including fat and thin contact, topped shots and popups, straight pulls, and “banana” slices. There's plenty of detail about this - in addition to the structured learning platform for the entire swing and much, much more - to be found in my online school. At just $10 US/month or $99 US/year it is perhaps the best PGA golf instruction deal out there. Hi Tom, do you really keep the weight on your left foot for the whole swing?
@SagutoGolf
@SagutoGolf 3 жыл бұрын
Yep - sure do, Frank. You start with your weight forward (55/45 on the front side; 60/40 for the longer clubs), increase that same weight forward to the top of the backswing (70/30), and further increase the forward weight during the downswing from halfway down (80/20) through impact (90/10) and to the finish at 95/5 forward. There's no "weight shift", therefore - unless one were to fall backwards - there's nothing to reverse or pivot!! And the result is a low-maintenance, body-friendly, consistent, and tremendously powerful swing! By the way, have you considered enrolling in the SagutoGolf online school? For just $10 US/month or $99 US/year you'll have unlimited access to a comprehensive members-only system for the full swing, the short game, and much more. I'm glad you enjoyed it, @R C!! And believe me - you are not alone! Sadly, many misconstrued and/or misguided teachings of "conventional" instruction - such as turning the shoulders level while independently lifting the club, shifting into and torquing against a flexed trail knee, actively rolling the hands through impact, etc. - have relegated generations of golfers to the vast abyss of chronic frustration (and chronic back/knee/hip pain as well). We're doing our best here to clear these up one by one and put an end to this madness! TS PS: Have you considered the comprehensive, structured learning platform of my online school? Tom, been following for a long time now. I "feel" like all my weight loads into my lead leg in the backswing and I just rotate and push "up" with that leg in the downswing. If you watch all of these swing trainer videos where they measure with force plates they show a loading into the trail foot and a transfer to the lead foot. Do you think that is just their traditional way of teaching loading and unloading or is my "feel" just not real?
@SagutoGolf
@SagutoGolf 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Eric, What you're feeling is what I'm teaching - weight forward from address to finish! You start with your weight forward (55/45 on the front side; 60/40 for the longer clubs), increase that same weight forward to the top of the backswing (70/30), and further increase the forward weight during the downswing from halfway down (80/20) through impact (90/10) and to the finish at 95/5 forward. These are the "real" numbers, not just "feels". You are indeed correct in that such sorcery from this dark underworld of golf instruction rarely finds its way to the mainstream, because if too many folks found out about it the mainstream would then be rendered irrelevant.... In fact, along these same lines I recently added this new 90% Weight Forward drill to my online school, and it has been working wonders for resolving many golfers' ball flight and impact issues: saguto.golf/courses/1175315/lectures/31131342 Keep up the great work, and keep that weight forward!! Common golfer Bend/ turn in the wrong place they've equate side bend as bending at the waist. when pros turn the correct position is bending at the chest at the lower part of the rib cage this changes the center of gravity from your belly button to your rib cage and changes a sway into a tilt but keeps the golfer centered and changes the power and torque from your lower legs to your upper body. When you throw or hit any object you don't do it from the waist but from the chest just below the ribs. Swinging from the waist creates over the top and arm swing matter how to try. Swinging from the turned chest is almost impossible to over the top because you're turning the chest. When common golfers turn at waist it causes early extension because they try to return the waist and hips. Turn the chest and the rest will follow correctly including the hips and legs. Doing so forces you to lead with the legs in the downswing because the focal point of the turn isn't at the waist but the chest.

Zero???? LOL! You need to watch closer, Eric. 😎 In actuality, this body-friendly, powerful, consistent, low-maintenance swing system is rooted in physics, geometry, and human physiology, and it is modeled on empirical observations of the game's greatest ball strikers. As such it does not discriminate by age or ability - from kids to seniors and everyone in between, inclusive of the best players in the world. Watch any Tour event on TV and you'll see a significant number of players executing these motions, a fact corroborated by just how many of them have a very centered swing with the lead knee flexing and the trail leg straightening during the backswing, their lead arms on or very close to their tilted shoulder planes, and their hands deep behind their trail shoulder at the top. In fact, have a look at the video I released on Saturday featuring McIlroy and Scheffler: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mJeXk2R8f62Xoq8 Both swings feature a flexing of the lead leg and straightening action in the trail leg. The degree of straightening certainly varies from golfer to golfer - in this case Rory more so than Scottie - but it is happening nonetheless. Let he who hath eyes see the truth, and the truth shall set them free!
