Next video suggestion: I've created an experimental new tuning (although I have yet to actually try it out myself) that I call Open-Drop G. From low to high string, the tuning is as follows: G1, D2, G2, B3, D4, F#4 ... It is basically an Open G chord with the low strings down an octave to provide depth and heaviness and the high strings tuned really high for shimmering chord work and searing leads. On a side note, I have a short scale First Act ME3061 guitar with a set of 10's set up for a G2, D3, G3, B3, D4, F#4 version of this tuning and it sounds killer! It sounds great for Power Metal, 80's Heavy Metal & Black Metal. Death Metal also works but I'd rather not go higher F Standard or Drop E2 for that! (I use exclusively A = 428 Hz tuning, which alleviates some of the tension. An E2 note at 428 Hz is about halfway between a 440 Hz E2 & Eb/D#2)

I just had an idea for a guitar variant called the 'diatar': 1. It would have 7 strings instead of 6; all strings would be the same gauge, metal type and wound/unwound status, etc. (identical) 2. each of the strings would be tuned to the 7-note diatonic scale, i.e. string 1: A, string 2: B, string 3: C, string 4: D, string 5: E, string 6: F, string 7: G

To be honest it is pretty good sounding the only problem I see is that the low be kinda has a natural staccato sound because all the sustain is so muffled and gone I will say however i do use a short scale bass .105 on my 8 string for C1 at 28.625 inches and it sounds pretty decent so I'd totally love to see more of this

I did this thing about a year ago. I used a cheap ebay diy telecaster kit so I didn't need to worry about the strings clearing the bridge pieces. I too unwrappedthe lowest string and while it sounded terrible acoustically it was bearable amped. It was suprisingly in tune but the tone was dull on the low end and "nosy" when played high. The ebay pickups were very weak sounding. I think I tuned mine to C#(step above a 5-string bass).
@Catlover777ful Жыл бұрын
Instead of unwinding strigs, I just use Ibanez micro-bass strings with their much shorter length - easy fix. I still have to widen the nut slots, and I have to re-drill the holes on the bridge or tailpiece, and I'm done. I've already converted a Les Paul style guitar and a 335 style guitar. I have an Explorer and a Strat style guitar to go. Those Ibanez micro strings sure save a lot of time and effort.

thank you for the video. I ended up here looking for some guidance in trying a straight Open G on guitar but with the D2 on string 6 switched out for a G1 to get a two string octave drone in the low end. tuning is: G1, G2, D3, G3, B3, D4. My setup is one man: bass kick, foot tamborine, guitar & voice or harmonica. Need an amp + cab that don't peeter out below 80 Hz. Suppose the trick is figuring out what string would work in that place both mechanically and acoustically. I was starting down the path of thinking I might need to put a bass string tuner on the guitar. Maybe if the concept has legs that might be a longer term solution down the road. Good to know I don't need to modify the guitar prematurely for a quick evaluation. Thank you again for the video, it was helpful.

You asked about the intonation. It's perfect. I have four guitars to convert, a Strat style, a Les Paul style, an Explorer style and a 335 style. The LP and the 335 are done, but I'm setting the other two aside to work on my 10- to-15 string monster and a 10-to24-string bigger monster. Nothing will happen to the guitar, but that 65 will sound kinda dull. Guitar strings and bass strings have different cores which give a diff tone. it'd be better to instead of using a pack of bass string for a 6 string bass to instead use a 70 for your lowest string and increment down from there instead of just using a normal set of say for example 105-50. Obviously this idea would not be to replicate a bass guitar sound on an electric guitar, but to instead idk get an experimental low end heavy thicker guitar sound.
